I was here for my birthday last night. It’s a very unusual restaurant in the west village. One of the best dining experiences I’ve had in New York for a long time. First of all, if you’re looking for a restaurant with a reasonable noise level, this is a place for you. The staff is very attentive and knowledgeable. All the dishes were outstanding, from the presentation to the quality of the ingredients. I had the smoked salmon as an entree (excellent), and the schnitzel as an entree. We all had the schnitzel: out of this world! So light. My friend had the strudel for dessert (very good) and I had the best dessert of the house: kaierschmarren. TRY IT!!!!

Pretty disappointing overall. Great wine selection. The oysters were decent. The rabbit spatzle was amazing. The bread was not complimentary and very dry. The duck was over cooked, bland, and may have been the worst I’ve ever had. Service wasn’t the best and was awkward at times. I expected more for the price tag. I’d recommend coming to this place to split a bottle of wine, but not for the food or service.

An authentic restaurant with a great interior design. I can tell that the service was above professional. They are so many wine 🍾 options so might want to go there to try them, they also have exotic cocktails with Austrian items. The menu was a little bit confusing to me as a first-time guest but they were helpful to make sure we are not lost. The prices are high so our expectations were excellent seeing and taste the duck was really good and the schnitzel but there were few items in the plate that weren't fresh in fortunately. There's something romantic about this place and it's a great place for a date.

Five stars for its vibe (relaxing, talkative, people being themselves). I went on a wrong date (a date before the appointment), hostess was helpful and she changed my appointment and let me sit there on the spot. Tasty food, but the taste could be more delicate. Price is relatively more affordable compared to other Michelin restaurants. Photos below (in their order of appearance): white bamboo shoot soup, salad with rabbit and mushrooms, lobster (new addition to the menu), and a dessert whose name I don’t remember, but tastes good. I would definitely recommend to come and try this restaurant! You can use it to relax, socialize, celebrate birthdays, and try a Michelin whose price is not too intimidating (I spent $130 for three courses and one dessert, and was very full). :)

Ausgezeichnet! Excellent scallop, veal and really most everything we had was very fine. Terrific wines and schnapps and a comfy room. My schnitzel was sublime w the classic upstate N.Y. (aka German) potato salad.

First time, but definitely not last. Diners can splurge with many courses, or pick and choose from many items on menu. While reservations are advised, there are some tables available for walk-ins. Eating at the bar seems to be popular as neighborhood meeting place. Staff was friendly, accommodating and handled all requests with grace and efficiency. Delightful experience!

Delicious food! Beautiful presentation!! And impeccable service! The duck entree was unbelievably delicious! The art decor and background music add so much charm to the ambiance. All around a wonderful dining experience! Pricey, but to be expected for Michelin rated spot. Expect to spend $250 for 2. And it was worth it!!

Food was quite boring. Not much layers of flavors. It is only interesting since we are not in Austria... but I liked it better in Austria for casual dining. Cocktails are pretty good and staffs are pretty friendly.

Outstanding flavors and phenomenonal presentation! The duck break is extremely flavorful, juicy, and tender. It's cooked perfectly. All of the little garnishes on the plate also taste amazing. The salmon strudel is very delicious as well. I personally think the duck breast oushone everything! Go get it!

Wallse probably has the best Spatzle I’ve had. It’s agreeable in that it’s not heavy yet fairly creamy, and comes with playful chunks of mushrooms, lobster, and the usual peas and carrots. The foie gras terrine was also (of course) delicious, accompanied sweetly with a berry based puree and grape sorbet. The smoked trout Palatschinken was delicious. It was a rolled up with a crepe, packing plenty of umami from the smoked trout, then topped with caviar and served with sour cream on the side. My only complaint was that there wasn’t enough Palatschinken. The classic mains were alright. The Wiener schnitzel was well breaded and tender inside, and the lingonberry sauce was a great side to pair with. The beef goulash wasn’t recommendable; it was a bit over-stewed and dry at parts, with a lightly herbal taste from the sauce. My favorite was the duck breast, which was cooked perfectly juicy and chewy. The red cabbage on the side was fantastic, and it went well with the semolina bread dumplings.

What a treat this was. How Wallse never hit my radar all these years is beyond me. Our meal was amazing - I loved the foie gras terrine with pear gelato and requested extra brioche to finish it! The schnitzel was out of this world and compliment by a perfectly recommended Austrian white wine. I look forward to returning!

Place is great - staff, food, service, all wonderful. If you’re on the fence remember this has been at Michelin star level for 23 years - the sheer consistent brilliance required to execute that, is unthinkable. The schnitzel is the finest I’ve had & the desert, Salzburg nockerel - DAMN that is delicious. Wonderful experience. Easy 5*

Very small portions but I got the duck and this was so perfectly cooked. I would say one of the best duck I ever had. They also have a great wine selection and our server was very nice.

We arrived a bit early for our 7pm reservation and were taken to our table fairly quickly. The staff were all very friendly, informative on the menu, and professional. The aesthetics are lovey; including the fresh flowers in the window still, bathrooms and all the dining room tables. The food was excellent. My mom loved the grapefruit Austrian beer & I enjoyed one of the Austrian dry white wines in the photo. The butternut squash soup is a must & dairy free (made of coconut milk). My mom & sister got the organic chicken and I got the cod, which was cooked perfectly & the sauces & veggies paired so well with it. The atmosphere is not too quiet and not too loud, just right. Would definitely return to bring friends here and try some other items on the menu!

We had a very nice brunch here. My soft boiled eggs were delicious, the spätzle nice, not as interesting as they could have been, but well made. Linzertorte was very authentic. My wife had the quinoa salad which was also nice. The ambiance is inviting and bright. I liked it a lot for a daytime meal. Service fantastic. We really enjoyed our time here very much.

Simply one of the best Michelin restaurants in NYC (out of 24 we have dined at). Amazing food, successfully combining the artistry of haute gastronomie, national traditions of the Austrian (and broader Central European) cuisine, and down-to-earth sheer deliciousness. Neither will a visit to Wallsé break your wallet, for it is one of the most affordable Michelin star-studded restaurants in the city. Very relaxed and laid-back setting, comfortable dining areas inside and outside, beautiful location. Impeccable service. Since the restaurant doesn't have it dessert menu available on its website, please refer to the picture of the dessert list we included in our review. More than highly recommended. A perfect dining experience. PS. Presently (August 2021), one won't be admitted without a proof of vaccination.

Very pleasant surprise for me, as I never expected much from Austrian food, but both appetizers and desserts are tasty and creative.

Brunch was such a delight! The atmosphere was so relaxing, the staff so generous and helpful, and the food was amazing. I cannot wait to return and try the dinner menu. I have been twice, for brunch, and the food and atmosphere has been top-notch twice. I am hoping to return for dinner in the not-too-distant future.

Excellent brunch experience! The bartender recommend us great cocktails. I had a very smooth espresso martini. Food was so tasty and the Apple strudel. Divine! We will definitely be coming back for dinner.

Nice place for a cute date with rotating Austrian menu options. Mixed drinks are well made and nicely compliment the entrees. Definitely try the pea soup. :)

Beautiful flavours, presentation and wine. Certain dishes are absurdly priced, but at least it all tastes wonderful and portions are (mostly) generous. I’d go back just for the creamy, decadent palatschiken.

Visited Kurt Gutenbrunner's one-star Austrian restaurant in West Village for my Saturday brunch. I ordered PALATSCHINKEN (Smoked Trout, Apple, Dill), WIENER SCHNITZEL (Potato And Cucumber Salad, Lingonberries), APPLE STRUDEL (Brandy Ice Cream, Schlag). For me smoked trout fish is more of a cold appetizer. Wiener schnitzel is thin crusted and crispy, pairing well with the lingonberry sauce. The puff pastry of the apple strudel is flaky and the filling is lightly sweetened. Overall good dining experience but not outstanding given its price point.

Situated in one of the best neighborhoods of lower Manhattan, this west village gem is everything you would expect. Modern Austrian fare - schnitzel , poached snapper, local vegetables, and great cocktails. Whether is dinner for 2 to catch up or group dinner of 6 to celebrate, this place has both indoor and outdoor accommodations to satisfy your needs.

I really wanted to love this place, I really did as it had an impeccable service and charming decor (not white cloth table service though). But the food simply failed to impress or even surprise me for a Michelin Star restaurant. We ordered the foie gras for an appetizer, halibut and short ribs for entrées and all of them failed to hit the spot. The foie gras came with a scoop of sweet sorbet on top which simply overpowered the flavor of this delicacy. Perhaps that was done to cut the fattiness of foie gras but frankly, one should not order it if one can't handle the fat and richness. So, putting a sweet overpowering sorbet on top, isn't the way to go in my opinion. The halibut was poached yet it was very dry and under seasoned. It came in a broth full of overcooked carrots, celery and artichoke, which tasted like avocados that began to rot before they ripened. The entrée was supposed to come with trumpet mushrooms. They were missing... Not sure why...The broth itself was tasty though. The short ribs were even more dry and the bbq sauce on top was too little to make up for lack of flavor and dryness. It came with a dot of pureed carrots, which was the only palatable thing on the plate. Neither of us finished even half of our food so the waiter asked whether we wanted to take the food home. "Oh no no no no, thank you!" we said.

An outstanding Easter, 2022 meal. Courses well timed, wine recommendations spot on, staff is courteous and professional but not stuffy. Every plate shines, from the flavorful steak tartare to the spectacular apple strudel. No pretentious gimmicks or flavours-de-jour, just solid cuisine in a lovely art-filled setting.

Everything was really good, Personally the goulash wasn't for my taste but it was still good.

Good food but not enough to the price, however the deserts are good.
