The place perfectly located in the Malecón of Guayaquil is one of the most complete about Valdivia and other Ecuadorian pre-Columbian cultures. The exhibition is well set and takes you in a very interesting anthropological journey. It takes time to wonder around every corner full of beautiful ancient work. The museum could be better but it seems the central government is not interested enough in keep it running properly.

The museum is neat, clean, and beautiful. The exponats consist mainly of paintings and drownings. I found it very interesting and worth to visit.

Valdivia collection is simply outstanding, for the number and the quality of the items. Imho the expressive valute of the ceramics Is wonderful and still modern an relevant. Dating and discovery site of the single items could be helpful. Modern art section was undergoing rearrangment so I couldn't visit. Highly recommended to anyone interested in native prehispanic art (ask for the catalog). Thank you. P.s. I can't figure how someone could say bad on this museum

First of all, the museum is free. The entrance is located on the second floor. They asked for my ID to register me and let me in — drivers license was fine. There are two sections. One for the anthropology that includes pretty interesting things. They walk you through the history and show different influences. There are also some interactive projection. Please note that all explanations are in Spanish, so either take Google Translate or enjoy without it. To me, it was still interesting. The second section is devoted to modern art. That’s was quite a surprise to see some sex-themed items so openly, LGBTQ exposition, etc. Again, no English explanation, which would be helpful for many of the items to understand the context. Yet, it gave me some understanding of the modern art scene of Ecuador. There’s also a section for kids meetup and a coffee shop, both were closed. AC is pretty strong, especially in the contemporary art section. By the way, the exit is on the first floor (downstairs) too. The staff who registered me spoke good English. There were not so many people, I’ve seen less than 5 during my 2-hour visit, in the whole museum. Maybe it’s not the season to visit. To sum up, I would recommend this museum. It’s fun, it gives you an intro to the culture, and it has some cool exhibitions. Check it out!

(Translated by Google) Pagan Cartographies, the largest exhibition of the Anthropological Museum of Contemporary Art (MAAC) since Contaminated in 2017, is a hint of what this important museum promises in its new stage as a Decentralized Operational Unit (UOD), an autonomous managed entity, agile and decentralized. I believe that the MAAC has no intention of ceasing to be an architecturally dysfunctional space for its proper development, however, deep down I applaud the management of all those involved in the realization of this exhibition and I highlight the kind of sanctuary that they have offered to the urban artists in the city. In this new stage, I perceive MAAC as an active space, eager to be the ideal space for artistic proposals from both cultural managers, curators and artists, and with international screenings.

Don't miss this museum during your visit to Guayaquil. Rotating exhibitions of contemporary art and an excellent permanent installation of centuries of ceramics. Ask the receptionist if there are any special events. Many of the signs are in English and Spanish. Free entry. No stairs to access the museum or gallery.

Absolutely gorgeous art museum, and best of all, IT'S FREE!!! Not enormous in size, so it doesn't take an enormous amount of time to get through. Plus, they have air conditioning for when you've completed your walk along the Malecon and want to take a break for a few minutes. I would definitely give it a go if you have the time.

The entrance is free. Maybe you should be charging at least 1$, since the museum is deteriorating inside…the ceiling must be rotten and water dripping on the floor. Also there’s not much to see, apart from the indigenous art, it’s really incredible.
