Kaylana Lake in Jodhpur, Rajasthan is located 8 kms to the west of Jodhpur on the Jaiselmer road. Pratap Singh, the then Prime Minister of Jodhpur, got the lake constructed in 1872. This artificial lake is spread over 84 square kms. Where the lake now lies, was once an area having palaces and gardens of two rulers of Jodhpur. They were destroyed to make the Kaylana Lake. Near to the lake is a Dak Bungalow of PHED, the Irrigation department. There are also boating facilities available for the tourists here. An ideal picnic spot for tourists, this lake offers a breathtaking view of the sunset. At that time the sky looks like a canvas splashed with spectacular colors. Kaylana Lake is the perfect place to relax or have picnics. If you are interested in birds, then, this place will further interest you. Also known by the name of Pratap Sagar, the area around this lake was once full of wild bears. It served as a secured hunting place for the royal members. But, with the increase in population it has not remained so. Don't even try to swim in this if you are not an expert swimmer. Better still, don't swim at all. Many youngsters trying to swim across this deep lake have lost their lives. Inspite of this, Kaylana Lake is a charming picnic spot. The beauty of this place will keep on lingering with you for a long time after your visit.

The lake is situated between igneous rock land formations. It receives its water from Hathi Nehar (translation: elephant canal), which is further connected to the Indira Gandhi Canal. The natural vegetation here mostly consists of Babool (Acacia nilotica and Kumat trees, and various migratory birds such as Siberian cranes are seen here in the winter season. The city of Jodhpur and all the surrounding towns and villages depend on Kaylana lake as a source of drinking water.

Almost outside the Jodhpur City. 10 KM away from Mehrangarh Fort. Only boating is good. Nominal zipline distance. NO cleanliness and NO maintenance. One or two fast food carts. Best thing is Saras Milk Point. Otherwise this place is total waste of time, energy, fuel. Shiv Mandir at the farthest point of lake may be a good place.

It is an artificial lake in Jodhpur. Walking here in the morning and evening is very enjoyable and relaxing. You can also enjoy camel ride, boating and zip line here There is also a lot of option here for the entertainment of small children. There are also small shops for food and drink. But the cleanliness is not proper.

Kaylana Lake is a beautiful and serene place to visit in Jodhpur. It is an artificial lake, built by Pratap Singh in 1872, on the site of two former palaces and gardens. The lake covers an area of 84 square km and receives its water from the Indira Gandhi Canal. The lake is surrounded by hills and rocks, and offers a scenic view of the sunset. I visited Kaylana Lake with my family and we enjoyed boating on the calm water. The boat ride was relaxing and refreshing, and we saw many birds and animals on the shore. The lake also has a garden and a museum, where we learned about the history and culture of Jodhpur. The museum displays portraits and artifacts of the royal family of Jodhpur, as well as the flora and fauna of the region. The entry fee was nominal and the timing was convenient. Kaylana Lake is a must-visit attraction for nature lovers and history buffs. It is a perfect place to spend some quality time with your loved ones, away from the hustle and bustle of the city. I would highly recommend Kaylana Lake to anyone who visits Jodhpur.

Kaylana Lake is situated 8 km west of Jodhpur city in Rajasthan. An artificial lake funded by Pratap Singh in 1872, the lake covers an expansive area of 84 sq km. Long ago, the lake region had palaces and gardens owned by the erstwhile Rajas Bhim Singh and Takhat Singh. These regal structures were demolished by the kings to create space for Kaylana Lake. Kalyana Lake is located amid igneous rock land formations. The water supply comes from Haathi Nahar which is further linked to the Indra Gandhi canal. The vegetation surrounding the lake comprises Babool trees (Acacia nilotica). In the winter, Siberian cranes visit the lake site to rest for some period. Another factor that makes Kalyana Lake highly significant is the dependence of Jodhpur city and its inhabitants on it for water supply. Boating facilities are also available for visitors at the lake site. It is good for a visit on a winter day

THE ONLY BEAUTIFUL PLACE TO VISIT IN JODHPUR IS THIS SERENE LAKE. You can either sit there till the sunset or take a motor or speed boat for a leisurely ride. I’d suggest visiting there in winters around the time of sunset. Price for motorboat pp is ₹120 for 30 minutes For speed boat - ₹350 or ₹400 pp for 4-5 minutes but it’s worth the ride. The depth of the lake is 60 feet according to our boatman. It’s a MUST VISIT if you’re in Jodhpur. Takes 20 mins to reach from sadar bazar.

In Jodhpur, this is the only lake. Since it acts as a reservoir for city water supply, you will always find water in it. There is a small garden which is not well maintained. Boating (motor) is there at stipulated timing. There are few lorries selling stuff like lemonade, at the entry gate. The sight is picturesque. The lake is deep and risky. Remain careful and don't be adventurous.

Okay so obviously in Jodhpur this is the best place. No offence but this place is also so scary at midnight like I want to share one of my incident about this place that; Once me and one of my friend visit their for some work and we were so late that time it's around 2:30 or 3:00 am and we were on the bike and we don't know that it is a haunted lake so we were just riding and suddenly our bike has stopped and then my friend just checking that what's the matter. I and. I just realised that someone is watching us I turn to my left and saw that there is a guy who is watching us continuosly with a creepy smile I am so scared and then I told my friend he was also able to saw that men aur some creature whatever it was. Then after some time our bike has been start and then I again look at my left there was no one and suddenly that thing appear just front of us we were so scared but my friend is from Brahmin family he started chanting hanuman chalisa then after some time we just get out from that area and I was so scared that smile is still on my mind that person or creature or whatever thing it was. It was too spooky. So I just want to suggest please don't visit at night but in morning and in evening you have to go and checkout that place. Sorry if my incident was too scary but I just want to give you the suggestion guys. ❤️🙂

I was here on the 14th of February at around 8:30 in the morning. While I could not do boating because it was closed at that time the place is not clean. Once you enter the gate a heap of garbage on the side welcomes you. Shouldn't an international tourist destination like Jodhpur be more clean? Not just the lake but other tourist places and even many areas in the city are unclean and filthy which is really sad.

  • 5/5 Priya T. 3 years ago on Google
Nice view at sunset, boating closes after sunset, Prices for normal boat(takes around 15-20 mins of ride) 100Rs, steamer boat( 5 mins of fast ride ) 200Rs per person. Smells a little bcoz of stagnant water. Visited Jodhpur in Feb starting so plan accordingly. A little outside for city Ola, Uber is avaible on outstation rides better prefer an auto to n fro from one's location. Also bargain everywhere in Jodhpur for tourists they charge double amount.

The place is far from the city. The view is nice but the area seemed a little spooky so not recommended after sunset.

Very grand and beautiful lake near city Jodhpur. The best time to visit here is evening. You can have motor boat ride as well.

The Kaylana lake view point on Google maps is 👌👌👌, it is on the way to the Nepali Baba Mandir. Very peaceful, hardly any crowd, and a must visit place if one is in Jodhpur.

Average place in jodhpur if you have kids. Enjoy here with young kids but not for adults because this place is good for nature lovers, so I love to walk here.
