Amazing place to visit but I have to say plan in advance for this place, step one arrive very early to catch almost all the busy rides, like Anacondas, the trains and so on, 30min after the place open expect to wait about 30 to 1:30min for a single ride that last a minute. Be prepared to walk a lot, like a lot of walking is required there. The 4D experience was amazing just that they have one movie you can not make a choice, I love the fact that you bring your own food and you can buy food in there too. Online purchase is recommended when you arrive, so if you already know you are going buy ticket online. The part I don’t get is both adult and kids pay R250 even though there are rides the kids can not have access to. I have to say overall it’s ideal place to visit. I enjoyed myself after.

Without a doubt a fantastic place to come. I don't know anywhere else in Africa to go for a theme park that comes close to this. I do suspect the staff of keep rides closed for a while for people not to have continuous rides. If you can come on a slow day it is very enjoyable. Especially if enjoy getting a rush from the free falling feeling. There are rides for the whole family and restaurants all over. Even carnival games some of which are very unlikely to win anything. Some are easy wins

Always a good day out at Gold Reef City. We one day decided to visit a weekday and take a tour of the mine. This really benefitted us as we were the only people on the tour which gave us ample opportunity to take good pictures. The tour itself was informative and provided a different experience. I recommend anyone to try and book a tour just after the schools started as it is then, seemingly, the best time to go on this tour.

It's a fun day out but there is a lot of room for improvement. We arrived at about 8:50 as the gates opened at 9am during the December holidays. Even though I booked and payed for the four tickets online I had to stand in 2 seperate ques. First one to get the tickets that go around your arm and the second one for gate gate entry. This was not clear at all and the staff didn't streamline the process either. Once you get inside nothing is open yet except for the Wimpy. No rides, nothing else. The wait time for the popular rides are about an hour and a half.

I had a great time here one Saturday afternoon. I really suggest coming here as early as possible because waiting times to get on rides can be as long as one hour on a bad day. Still a fun thing to do with friends or family.

Everyone should go there. Very beautiful and fun. There are rides that are not so scary. Please wear comfort shoes when you visit Gold reef city 🤍. Enjoy😊😊 Lastly , for those who want to throw their little ones a party, there is a very nice venue there.

I took my niece on Friday, 8 April 2022, her first time. It was enjoyable. It wasn't too busy. We paid R250 pp, that was a bit steep to be honest. She's 9yrs old, that was a bit much. We had tons of fun and made use of most of the rides. The lady at the ticketing place selling tickets for the Gold pour and the mine tour is a rude and miserable individual, certainly not the kind to be at a theme park and dealing with patrons. The gentleman at the Gold pour exhibition directed us to her to purchase our tickets. He was the most polite, friendliest people, along with the lady who did our tour of the mine. Those two deserve an accolade, they made our experience exceptional.

Gold reef city theme park is such an amazing place to be . Especially to get that adrelline running. The place is fun and has that energetic vibe. There is rides to take your breath away... like legit for real and then you can get those calming kid friendly ride. This place is an awesome place to be Especially if u planning a family holiday. There are awesome restaurants there to fill u up before your next ride. The place has beautiful scenery Especially on the helicopter ride and the ferries wheel 🎡 .The staff there is super friendly and helpful. Can't wait to go back there again and try the rest of rides I have not been on.

Thought it's bigger but it's still a decent size. Has everything for everyone. It wasn't as crowded when we've been there so we didn't had any long waiting times for the rides we went on. The rides itself are sometimes a bit rough when it comes to comfort and braking sharply. I know it a bit different from German Themeparks but it is still a good one.

The BEST part about Gold Reef City is, no matter what age you are if it's your birthday then you get in absolutely FREE!!! All you need to do is show proof of ID or driver's license and vwala you get the whole day free!!! I absolutely love this place!

Gold Reef City has always been a popular theme park. The roller coaster rides provide your body with an adrenaline rush, making you feel alive. A scream of joy, fear, and exhilaration! The park is very clean and well maintained, and there are plenty of food stalls throughout the park for you to choose from! I would not recommend visiting the park during the holidays because there are far too many people, especially during the December holidays, and you end up standing in line for hours and only being able to ride a few of the rides! Try to go on a Thursday or Friday when it is a little quieter. Then you can truly enjoy the exciting rides! Remember to book online and to wear comfortable shoes. R250pp

Been to Goldreef after years. I really enjoyed the upgrade just wish there was halaal food available in the amusement park. Also wish they would reconsider and reintroduce the non rider fees for parents. I enjoyed the miners history it gave me insight on just how much the miners gave up in hope for a better life in the city of Gold

My family and I were booked in at the theme park hotel. Staff were friendly. The hotel room was fine. As for the swimming pool water, well that was green so my husband and kids could not swim in it. My kids were thrilled to go on rides, watch 4D videos etc. However the queues are ridiculously long. Sadly there is no exception for those staying inside the theme park. It would be nice if they could give hotel residents access to the rides an hour before opening to the public. There should be a limitation on the amount of people allowed access daily into the theme park so that everyone gets to make use of the rides instead of standing tirelessly (during a heatwave) in queues to get on. People are allowed in from around 9am/9:30am but the gates to the rides aren't open so you have to start queuing already which I find really annoying. To top it off they close the gates to rides from around 4pm when the theme park closes @ 5pm. I do understand that this is within the peak season however I seriously hope management does something about this.

Had so much fun! Went for a helicopter ride, then to the amusement park. We had no idea that tickets were not sold on the premises and had to buy tickets online. There are more than enough food options and souvenir shops. Definitely buy tickets in advance.

We had an absolute blast!! The Online Ticket booking is convenient and fast and definitely helps the queues at the entrance going very fast and efficient. The only downside of our visit was definitely the extremely long lines at the rides, we had to wait 40 minutes to an hour for the rides but I do take in consideration that it was the first day of the school holidays. It was very crowded. It's also very frustrating when the boards cleary states "no place keeping" and crowds of people move past you to their friends infront of you making you wait even longer. I do suggest that the staff be more strict about this. Other than that, all the rides worked! The staff from the gates to the operators at the rides were very friendly. The bathrooms are very clean which is very impressive if you take in account the amount of people there during the day so big thumbs up on that! Huge variety of restaurants and places to buy cool drinks and snacks during the day. It's a nice outing for friends and for the whole family with the rides and games for the kids as well. Overall nice experience!

Came here with siblings..., easy online booking.., Apparently, they now encourage everyone to book online ,no tickets at the gate. I'm not sure if it's because it's the festive season or it's the new rule. So be sure to buy online,

Had a great time! We went through on the Friday and slept over in the theme park hotel and then spent the Saturday as well. We went after the peak season so it was nice and quiet with no waiting lines which was nice for the children. All the staff that we spoke to were very friendly and accommodating. The place was so clean and well looked after. When sleeping over you get access to the park. I would suggest price wise to rather spend a night there and get access to the park for 2 days. Would definitely visit again.

Gold reef city is a great place to visit! Lots of options for food and entertainment. They are very organized and the bathrooms are kept clean. It feels like a world of its own with the street entertainers and games in the streets. It’s probably the closest we’ll get to Disney land in SA 😁

Enjoyable games for the whole family. Lazy rides as well as heart stopping ones for thrill seekers. Kids games for all ages also. Safe for those with fears, staff all over. Restaurants and stalls for all kinds of meals or toys😏 Plus some happy hour in some restaurants and with tasty cocktails😜

We had an awesome time.💃🏾💃🏾💃🏾 We booked our tickets online, after a quick response,it was a smooth sail at the gate. Most of the rides were working. The food stalks served fresh food and that was really awesome. We will definitely come back and even recommend it to our friends, family and colleagues 😀👍🏾

Gold Reef Theme park never disappoints. Excellent day. Book online. Lockers available inside the park. Lots of places to eat and drink. The rides are fantastic. You need to plan your day and sequence of rides to reduce the que time. 4D movies, mini golf, bounce, mine visit, etc also available. Hotel accommodation inside the theme park is very convenient for far away travelers

Loved the newly added kiddies rides, my son loved them so much because they mimic the older people rides. The park its kept clean an neat despite the huge number of visitors a day. Lastly the stuff looked beautiful in their dulux khaki uniforms

Huge variety of rides and entertainment. Lots of variety for food. I would plan for a weekday possibly next time as the main rides had like a 40+ min wait due to the length of the lines and how busy it was. I was there from 10am till 2pm and managed to go on 7 rides. Would have loved to go on a few of the Rollercoasters more than once but there wasn't enough time unfortunately. Still a great experience and very friendly staff all around. Make sure to get there early, and have a good breakfast before.

What a great adventure Gold Reef city is! If you are looking for fun, extreme adrenaline rides, you have found just that! This place is appropriate for all ages ,you can bring young kids, youth, middle aged persons they will all find what relevant for them. Prices are really amazing,R200 entrance p p and you get to ride anything you want,as many times as you wish, without paying for each ride inside. Because of Covid 19,bookings are done online. Want to get out of an office and release that tension? Gold Reef city is the place to go

The place is huge so wear comfortable walking shoes or sneakers, if going on a public holiday or during peak season I advise you buy the tickets online because the ques van be ridiculous. Also get the early otherwise come 4pm you will not have done all the rides especially if you're with children, you literally spend hours there, so bring food or lists of money because there are restaurants inside. My son was too short for the thrill rides so will be going back in 2022 and preferably on a week day off peak as the prices are cheaper . The miners revenge was my absolute favourite I never laughed so much seeing the kids scream . The thrill rides are all great for adrenaline junkies , I am just a bit if a coward , but worth the price though .

Perfect for going out with friends or family. There are rides specifically for kids. It's always packed so the earlier you go the better the chances of experiencing almost every ride there. Have at least R200 if you're interested in playing games inside

The theme park it self was absolutely stunning. I visited with my family for my birthday and we had a lot of fun! The theme park staff at the different rides are extremely friendly and helpful. We did have a terrible experience thinking that we could have a quick lunch at the Golden Nugget restaurant. But to our surprise an absolute horrible disgusting experience. We are just glad that the theme park it self was so amazing.

You have to buy your tickets online, which, for me, makes things more convenient. There are the friendliest guys on stilts, painted gold, wearing mining type outfits, helping and directing people to where they must go, the line at the kiosk to get the tickets wasn't long and the staff are very friendly and efficient so it moves quickly. I got in free because it was my birthday and you get a separate line for that ticket which also moved fast.... had the best day, great food available all over, the lines for the adult rides were a bit insane but I didn't go for that, walked around, explored the "city" the fun train was cool with the tunnel that turns, kinda makes it feel like the train is tipping, my son (6) had a blast on the kids rides and before we knew it the day was over.... I guess time does fly when you're having fun!

One of southern Africa's biggest and best theme parks, with rides and attractions for all ages. Extreme rides like the Anaconda, Jozi Express and Tower of Terror are for the brave and then there's Gold Reef City's newest ride, Storm Chaser. This ride comes with a '10/10 Fear Factor' rating (the highest rating in the park) and is designed to replicate the experience of being trapped inside the eye of a storm. You'll be swirling around at great speeds, getting ever higher into the sky while the ride flips up and down, throwing you sideways and upside down. After trying it out ourselves, we can confirm it is pretty terrifying. Definitely one for the dedicated adrenaline junkies. If you are here with little kids on the other hand, for something a little slower there’s the option of a gentle train ride around the park with a soft-serve ice cream in hand or learn about the city's early history by touring the recreated gold rush mining village, try your hand at gold panning or take a trip underground to visit a disused mine shaft within the theme park. There are also lots of other kid-friendly rides and attractions, plus the 4D Theatre experience, and a full-on trampoline park, Jump City.

Gold reef city theme park is the best of them all. Lots and lots and lots of rides. My advice would be to get there early so that you can ride everything remember the price is for the entire day and not per ride so take advantage of that. Currently it is R200 per person both adults and kids except those below 3. Food is not allowed in as they have restaurants inside. Most of the restaurants don't swipe please have the some cash with you. Overall best place ever for fun you can never go wrong.

The theme park was packed however still not stuffed. Tickets are only sold online to avoid lengthy queues, however we still do cause a bit of convoy while waiting for one rep to collect the tickets. I did not notice any available theme part maps for people that are not familiar with the park. I say this because the machines close to the entrache and just that are was packed with people and the other sides were not as packed, this could be because people aren't aware that machines are spread across different areas. There were a couple of new machines, which is a great plus, yet a couple that weren't working. Covid protocols are observed. There are people walking around the theme park enforcing the rule of wearing masks. Sanitizers are available at every machine.

Visited Gold Reef City Theme Park during my stay in Johannesburg. It was a great experience. They have many rides for both kids and adults, lots of places to dine at. The roller coaster is scary as hell!! But a great experience. Go there early and book online to skip queues.

Definitely the place to be! Need to safe a bit R250@ person is expensive with a family. So safe a bit it is every rand worth. All the rides is then for free. You can also book a trip in the mine at additional costs. * There is a restaurant that you can get a cheese burger, chips and a soda for R70- The burger was delicious 😋 Nice place to get nice family pictures and made memories.

    1. Go in the morning! Or else you only do 2 rides and queing the whole day. If you want to enjoy the rides, do not go on a public holiday or month end... go on a random day during the week. 2. Don't carry a handbag. Be free and ready to have fun. 3. They sell food.

No better place to experience some thrill and excitement. Although it had rained earlier once it stopped the rides were opened. All the classic rides are still as epic as I remember from visits when I was younger. After a full day of running on adrenaline, you can find some affordable food stalls with filling meals. Awesome place to visit. PS be ready to stand in some long lines. #GRCThrills

Amazing day to spend with family and friends. Has enough attractions to keep you busy all day. R250 is the entrance fee, tickets are bought online and this will give you access to all the amazing rides except the Helicopter ride. There are food stalls, restaurants and ice cream parlours. Ample sitting area once your feet get sore or your heart has stopped functioning from the adrenaline pumping rides.

I have very fond memories of coming here in my childhood, so I was rather excited to visit as an adult ( I'm still short, but tall enough for the rides now). Besides the historical attractions for which is famed, recent upgrades and additions have been made turning out into a proper theme park. We went on a weekday to avoid the crowd, it was still pretty busy with a few school day trips taking place and bus loads of tourists. The rides provide enormous fun for ppl of all ages. You are well catered for regarding food, as there are kiosks and restaurants dotted about. For those with no interest in the park, there is also a hotel and casino.

Went to Buggy Park yesterday with some friends, and what a blast! Don't judge those carts by their looks, yes they're dirty, but they drive on a gravel track! Get in one, give it gas and wait for the shock of your life! Tons of fun for a great price! They also have zip line and paintball!

Great place for a fun day out. The off road racing is fun, and can be quite addictive. Thomas and his team are really wonderful, friendly, engaging and take care to make your visit is a good one. The zip line for kids was short but good fun. I suspect the paintball side-activity will get better over time given the space that is available. Also onsite (weekends) is a lovely pizza place.

This go carting range is the best place to be during level 2 lockdown as they sanitize the carts everymorning and it is an outdoor range so there is a very very low chance of you getting the coronavirus. I very highly recommend this go carting range

Mixture of modern amusement park and history. Many carnival games and food stalls. Paid extra to visit the gold mine--excellent tour. Saw how black Rock is turned into gold bars. Only open on Saturday and Sunday so expect crowds.

The best amusement Park in Johannesburg. They got all kinds of rides for kids, 3 years old to 99 years old. Fun time for the whole family.

Nice amusement park for both kids and adults, the 4D movie (Space Panda) is overdue for a change, it's been there too long. But it's my daughter's favourite theme park, and she looks forward to visiting Gold Reef City.

Love how well this theme park is managed and maintained. Definitely worth visiting and keep the whole day open as there’s loads to do and see. Highly recommended for a fun day out for kids of all ages. Well organised park with tickets only available for purchase online. Lots of food options and you can stay at the Gold Reef City - Theme Park Hotel. Ananconda and Jozi Express are recommended if you like speed and your heart racing. 📌Park is only open Friday to Sunday - 09:30 to 17:00 and on all Public Holidays except Christmas Day.

Great place, arrive early rides start closing from 16:45... So for best experience arrive @10am. Quick GPS for the most thrilling rides. Anaconda>Tower of Terror > Golden loop > Jozi Express.. In that order to avoid going in Circles.

A very exciting place for a family retreat. Good for all ages. Kids under 3 years don't pay the admin fee. 3yrs and older pay R250.00 for admin then have full access to the rides. There's a kids' college where it's only rides for kids. Then the rest of the places outside are rides for all different ages. There are several vendors within the premises where games on payment can be played. At these paces, there are prices to be won as an incentive, such as teddy bears, etc.. Food and beverages are on sale as there are several franchises, including Wimpy, Mochachos, Saloon Sausage, etc.. there are also restaurants where birthday setups are held, as well as just restaurants for dining.

Amazing place to spend time with little or young kids. The whole day in 225 250 rands and numerous rides and activities for all age groups..... The only sad part was that the 4D movie was out of order for the last 3 weeks with technical problems and seems like they are not fixing it.Still worth the visit.

The largest theme park in Africa situated in an authentic portrayal of turn of the century mining town. A great day out for a family. So many attractions such as the thrill rides, the science museum, petting zoo and casino. All of these attractions are set in a beautiful backdrop which can leave one feeling nostalgic. Plenty of restaurants and kiosks. The lines for rides can get somewhat long so best to ride the popular rides early before most visitors arrive. Great value for money and a touching reminder of South African history.

Wow what a time we had. The log ride was epic, got out all wet. The Golden loop was my high... My son and I outdone ourselves. Adrenalin pumped. Looking forward to going back and going on more rides - not during rainy season.

Love it but the social distancing is only applicable at some places. Rides are not really been sanitized. More off a quick wipe off

  • 1/5 Linda K. 3 years ago on Google
It is always too full. I hoped now with the Covid 19 situation and the promise of only 50% capacity the queues would be much shorter but far from it. First off, we booked tickets online to make sure we would have an entry on the day. We queued 1 hour outside at Gold Reef City's entrance to enter the park. Altogether we got to go on 5 of the 18 rides inside the park because the waiting time at each ride was between 30 to 45 mins. I won't be going again.

  • 3/5 Richard S. 3 years ago on Google
I rated it 2 stars less because they need to treat the water. It stinks, full of algae and you end up smelling like a dead fish if any water from any ride splashes on you. Also, the tower of terror also needs some softer head support. You get bumped and end up with a headache. Besides that, had a lovely time. Excellent family outing venue. Something to do for all between the ages on 4 and 40.

Great theme park. I really enjoy the rides. However they need to work on their maintenance schedules. Some rides are always in maintenance. I would not suggest it for weekends and school holidays. It gets packed really quickly and you will end up waiting for rides for a very long time sometimes more than 1hr.

It started raining but was still a thrill, we ate at golden nugget, it's always lovely eating there and their tramizini's with a coke. It also sells alcohol there for the alcohol lovers. Best place to start the thrill is at the anaconda. Some of the water needs to be refilled, like the log, rapids, miners revenge and the boats. Sometimes it is stinchy smell like cat pee like at the boats. Butbest for family outings, and couple dates.

The park is still the best in South Africa. The Covid-19 protocols were really very orderly enforced. Safety is good, there are enough food and restaurants to choose from for all dietary preferences. Waiting times in the lines do get pretty long so be prepared to stand. I like the new cool zone mist spray feature for those hot summer days. All staff very friendly.

My fiancè and I spent a great sunday here. It wasn't too packed, we didn't wait long in line to get on rides - only on the anaconda- but it was definitely worth it. Frequent sanitizing before getting into each ride, which makes you feel a bit better about hygiene. There are also mobile bars where you can get beer/ciders offered in plastic cups instead of the alcohol bottles. We then had an early dinner at The Golden nugget which offers great burgers and cocktail specials. Good vibey music too, and this is where my fiancè popped the question so I think I might be biased🤣

Great theme park for a full day family outing. Buying tickets online is good idea to control the numbers especially during Covid days. However it still felt that the park was over crowded. Waiting periods were as long as 1.5 hours for high demanded rides. It is advisable to go there as early as possible to make use of most rides and still walk in the old town. Leave the water related rides to last.

Gold Reef City is such a beautiful place especially the theme park it's my favourite place to go to. There are more than 30 rides so it's a place where you wouldn't want to go home after entering . Due to covid-19 regulations you now have to book your tickets to the theme park online it cost 200. ONCE you enter the fun never ends!! So you should go there knowing that you're going to have a lot of fun !!

Super busy as to be expected at festive season. Hour long waits for rides. Super hot in the 🌞 sun. Drink tons of water and take sunscreen... The reason I am rating it only 2 stars is the filthy state of the bathrooms. Family members reported filthy women's bathrooms with overflowing sanitary bins and stinky toilets with no cleaning staff in sight. Gold Reef City Theme Park needs to improve its cleanliness game, especially during peak periods. Ww won't be returning any time soon.
