The oriental Plaza has been open since 1974, it has always been the place to go for items that are needed from suits or evening gowns to everyday household items. For years this has been a place to shop, where deals can be found. All stores are private owned and no chain store so you get that extra detailed service when going. Do note that they are not open on a Sunday and that they close between 12 and 1 P.m daily as most stores close for lunch. Great place to spend the day and you have to try out Just Samoosa’s for lunch.

My husband has been to the Oriental Plaza many times before, but I came with to a conference in Johannesburg and wanted to see the Plaza for myself. This mall is massive!! As luck would have it, we just arrived at the mall and then loadshedding struck! We had to climb up and down the escalators. Most of the shops closed because of the loadshedding but a few had little lights in the shop which was really not enough. I bought what was supposed to be a black scarf in one of the shops which had one light operating. When I got to the hotel, it was a navy blue and not a black scarf!😅 We bought some lovely gifts to take back home as well as my now favourite slip-on takkies and some leather bags. Outside of the mall there are numerous stalls selling mostly food and cellphone accessories. The food was really delicious and cheap. We had a lovely time browsing through the various shops and stalls but when we had to leave, we couldn’t find our way back to the car. Luckily one of the security guards who obviously knows the mall well, helped us find our way. A word of advice, take notice where you park your car and which entrance you use. Can be quite daunting getting lost here.

There has been a great improvement since the last time I visited this place. This time it was more cleaner and had no bad smell. My overall service was great, it's just that I got there around 12h00 so because there is a lot muslims shops so some shops were closed for prayers so I had to wait until until they were back. But some shops were still operating. And when I got there there was loadsheding but the shops were operating, they have back up generators. So don't worry about loadsheding, that won't stop shops from operating. They even have Uber drop off area if you are using Uber, there is a dedicated area for Uber. At the gate you get a ticket and you pay for it, I think I paid about R10 for less than hour because it was weekend, so they charge more. Great place for homeware and clothing. Quite a lot of bargains in a lot of shops. Quality of some stuff is relative to how much you wan to spend. Parking at the right spot can be tricky because the mall is huge. Parking charges are not that hectic.

This is a really nice centre's. One of few that do so much to light up for Christmas. Many closed businesses, that was disappointing. The centre' is super clean and spacious. Really great shops. Still good restaurants, sadly some of my favorites closed down. The effect of Covid 19 was clearly visible. A number of new shops in the centre's not on Google yet. See sweetshop called 1959 and hobby shop racing called 33 Brad Bidden

I loved the shops there, i got the perfect material for my pieces created in a matter of minutes, the staff also helped me look for the relevant material what i wanted to create. The result of my piece is beautiful, good quality material. I would definitely recommend this place!

A variety of stores found here! There are shoes galore, jewellery stores, lots of fabric and curtain stores, takeaway eateries, crockery and cutlery stores, clothing, linen and decor and all at incredible prices. It's my go to stop for Men's and women's shoes. Also great outlets for traditional Indian garments. The weekdays are fairly quiet but Saturday after 10am is really busy so parking can be a little chaotic. Definitely worth the drive.

Dr. Cohen is probably the worst Dentist I have ever come across. Did a crown over a rotten tooth was one incident. Gave him another chance, did a filling, 2 and a half weeks later and still in more pain than before the filling. Never really willing to help solve a problem. Will never go back!

Dental practice non existent or just too arrogant to attend to patients. Today's story was that one dentist is off sick, the other works until 1pm, the other just doesn't take walk ins. Really not on for such a big brand.

Wow massive mall. So clean and well looked after. Loved all the shoe shops. Insane selection of shoes. Very friendly and helpful shop owners. Loads of parking. Benches to sit on and have a snack from the food vendors when you need a rest from shopping.

There are a lot of shops but they all sell very similar things; suits, traditional Indian attire, shoes, curtains and the odd tech shop. The area is very clean and neat and the facilitate quite modern. They accept card payments, have multiple card machines and even an FNB Branch on the premises. Parking is also very secure.

Every second shop either sells curtains material or suits and so expensive. I will never go there again it was a waste of our time. The best part of the outing was the chip and dip and slushy shop, clean cheap and delicious. If you're looking for curtains and suits and you know how to bargain then maybe the Plaza is for you. Sorry just my honest opinion not meant to be nasty maybe you will like it. 😊

Always ask for a discount at this mall Many people in this mall, some aren't shoppers they are criminals operating in groups, they are busy checking for weak targets. keep your car locked and double check if it's properly locked , Thieves operate here but security guards are also there. keep your handbag on your front side and never leave it unattended. A good place to get anything, from clothes, shoes, curtains, rugs/mats, fabric etc. Theres a variety of shops so you can be able to compare different prices and different quality. It is relatively safe with visible security all over. Parking is very scarce so the the earlier you get there the better. Really great shop options for formal wear, suits, evening dresses, evening dresses, Indian traditional wear, sewing material and supplies, wedding table decor, shoes, fancy hats, jewellery, outfit accessories like brooches and white lace umbrellas, household items, toys, curtains (ready made or pick material and place an order to have them made there for collection). In between you have lovely places selling samoosas, pies, chip and dip as well as drinks. There is an ATM within and more than one option to choose from. Just note that there is an hour, 1-2pm whereby shops are closed temporarily in line with religious prayer rights. But you can still window shop or return later or start your day there.

It was very good went to buy curtains. Sales person was friendly and very helpful. I got good quality curtains at a reasonable price they made it for me while I waited . After the cutain shop I went to the carpet shop it was the same very good service plus I got 4 big Turkish carpets at a good price . To people that haven't been to this place to shop please go you will get a lot of bargain . Plus they have everything you need . Best choice ever.

I've been visiting this place for years. It's a nice place to get all sorts of fabrics, curtains, clothing and food. If you're in search of gathering some fabrics to make a dress or get a custom tailored suit made for you then you'll find plenty of shops with reasonable prices. I also used to visit this place to purchase firecrackers. It still seems to be the same as it was years ago. Not much has changed. A lot of the shops are quite similar, so I'm removing points for not enough variety. It just feels like everyone is selling the same thing.

When I eventually got to visit the stores I'd wanted to, it was business as usual - some good deals, some iffish questionable quality, and some great products. You need the whole day and must be willing to walk around a bit as most shops stock the same things but difference I'm pricing will be R100 or so. There is a variety of everything from kitchen to bedroom. Everything is well priced, you can score a bargain. Just go there early

I'm giving them a four because the food we bought there was amazing. But the clothing stores are hecticly overpriced and I highly doubt that it's imported fabric. If u looking for clothes they have beautiful designs but make sure ur budget knows no limit

One of the few golden oldies shopping bizaars with a variety of reasonably priced stores. Could do with a revamp. Security are full of nonsense though, very unfriendly and unwelcoming, making you feel as if they doing you a favour. But other than that an awesome experience but definitely not an every day experience.

My go to place for custom made quality curtains while you wait. Still have the ones I had made 7 years ago and they are in pristine condition. I need to make a mental note to take a picture of the shop and help promote their great service and discounts 👌👌👌

Sad to find that a once buzzing busy Oriental plaza is now so quiet. Would like to see more variety of shops instead of just curtains, fabrics and cellphones.

What used to be a buzzing place to get good food, affordable clothing and everything thing oriental had lost its life and flare post covid, everything is still there for purchase but a darkness looms over what used to be a buzzing friendly lively environment. I love this place for the variety of material I go buy and the freshest samosas in town. Covid has really damaged the spirit of many places.

Shoe shop at the entrance ....gosh is it necessary for 3 staff to serve you at once. Commission # pay check # i do understand but do allow the customer to breathe somewhat too.

Depends where you shop. At one shop owned by Salim we bought 5 suites. It took Salim 3 attempts to get 2 suites properly tailored, and 1 suite he destroyed. I went to the shop next door and bought a replacement suite. 45 minutes later it was perfect. Salim stillnowes me R1400 after a week!

U just need some time in ur hands to really look around. U can get lost in the plaza. Looking at there beautiful fabric shops. Clothing galore. Haberdashery. Food places. Samoosas,samoosas delicious 😋 The upstairs restaurant is very comfortable and cozy. Scrumptious food....I could go on and on.

If you have never been to the Plaza you haven't truly experienced Johannesburg. Get there early and browse around. It's my go to place for suits. I found my wedding suit in one shop tucked at the back after almost giving up. I was made to feel like part of the family and they were excited for our wedding. It's a pity they no longer exist. When you are done, visit World of Samoosas for something to eat. You will not regret it

Find all the fabric you may want here... I love going here even when I'm not looking for fabrics... The have a variety of shops for just about anything you may want. I love decorating flops and selling/gifting, so at Oriental Plaza, there are shops there where you'll find all sorts of little decorative stones, pearls and so much more. Also, I can never go there without stopping for the best samoosas I've ever had there.

It's always been a good experience to be there. I was there in Hanifa's and Kkashish for the diwali outfits for us.. And have not been disappointed at all that I made the decision to go there😊. It was a lovely collection and sale was also on. Got beautiful dresses for Diwali. ❤

Went shopping for some curtains and was told they do have the 3 pieces of 5mtr each I was looking for... made to pay and walaaa ... we are making them for you now fast fast. It’s excellent of you want to shop for curtains. They have basic to designer type curtains. Materials are thick, heavy and of good quality. Some are very light with poor quality.

Prices are competitive and discounts negotiable. There are paraplegic ramps and escalators. Security is visible throughout. You have to buy samosas while you are there.

Well run parking system. There seems to be more curtain stores in the Plaza with similar fabrics available. Affordable pricing on most merchandise and you are most likely to find unique gems or bargains not likely easily available elsewhere.

Very fond memories of this place with my family.. many have passed and so unfortunately so have some Shop owners and their fam sold their shops and its really not the same like before. That feeling is lost. But there are still some favorites like Docrats and Mangeras. Moosa Job buyers.. just samosas.. the Samoosa Kiosk is still there with the boot and shoe shop.. Pirus moved .. Mayers looks like they closing down.. not sure.. the old souvenier shop is now a Perfume shop atleast the son made the place awesome with exquisite all brands genuine perfumes..ok I can go on forever.. but thats it for now

Found an ok-ish curry restaurant. General upkeep of centre not great, is clean tho. Looks like a china maul with all the goods displayed outside the shops.

always a fascinating place to visit. Bought samoosas from I can't remember the name of the place, but they were the best I've ever eaten.

No back up power for the mall. Was there during load shedding. 80% of the shops were closed ( also it was Friday prayer time, so that may also have contributed to most of the shops closed for trade)

One of the oldest Muslim communities in SA. Formed way back when I was not even born. This place is under construction and boost so many place where you can eat in and outside the plaza. Good vibes on the weekends alway perked though make to come early to find parking. Shop for Indian inspired jewelry, bags, clothes, and more. Bank, shop for fabric patterns, and more. Very affordable too. It definitely the community that supports and stands together.

I feel that they should consider more testing places for the senior citizens. I observed staff placing packets on the seats available for friends coming to lunch leaving patrons standing in the sun. I don't mind normally but when it's a 80 something year old it leaves a sour taste in the mouth

Lots and lots of stores selling ladies and mens evening wear. Will definitely visit again when we are looking for evening wear. The kiosk in the centre in open area selling samoosas was disappointing. It had no taste. I used to buy from them all the time but definitely a no no.

Nice selection of shops, with quality suites. If you are a fan of Asian food, then this is definitely your go-to mall!

The Orientsl Plaza has always fascinated me as it has so many wonderful shops. The prices are very reasonable.

I had a great shopping experience, you have an option to choose anything tailor maid or ready to wear. We had our bridesmaid dresses done there by Jilaal dressmaking. He did so well, my dress turned out great after we could only communicate via phonecalls. Totally amazed.

There are various options for clothing, home appliances and decorations. Items are reasonably priced for the quality on display. It has grown from strength to strength as they have increased the number of shops and strolls. Still not happy about having to pay money in order to access the RESTROOMS over above having paid for PARKING.

Visited the oriental plaza after many many years. Walked in and was hit with waves of memories from my childhood. So many quality stores still available. The place is kept very neat and clean. I think that I will be visiting the plaza more often.

Could not find the store I was looking for and no one could tell me but it had a small selection of store's with some good quality and selection of suits Curtains and fabric galore if you looking for any

This place is much improved. From the parking to the cleanliness. However the is a lack of diversity in the types of shops. If you aren’t looking for curtains, formal wear or luggage you may be disappointed

Got beautiful curtains at a shop called Global Curtains and Seasonal curtains. I'm happy with them. When you are there be mindful of your calculations, compare prices from different stores do your shopping with no rush. When you do that you'll get the best prices. Count your change well and calculate well too there are chancers there if you are too excited they will rob you of change or charge you more. Check if your receipt matches what you calculated.

The place has an amazing atmosphere. I definitely enjoy the aesthetic and just marveling at how as much as we are different, we all have some similar character traits. And that for me is just being human. Lovely place to find unique clothing material that is quality

This place its self, is so damn neat and clean. I loved the place, except for one officer at the gate , "exit" with a rotten attitude 😒.. but place is cool , I enjoyed my shopping there at other shop that sell pots & other electronics products
