Nice enough campground. One bathhouse with flush toilets for the whole campground. Some campsites were pretty far from bathhouse that's old and needs a lot of help... They did have put toilets scared through campground. Large trees provided quite a bit of shade but with no understory you could see every other camper from your campsites. Park has nice trails with beautiful Rock bluffs and your close to a lot of other nice natural areas.

We have stayed here 6+ times and we love the campground. We have a 36ft camper. There is 30 amp electricity only on most sites. No sewage hook-ups. They have a fresh water hook-up, but limited to only a few spots. One side of the campground is reserve and the other side first-come. Only one dump station. The restrooms aren't the greatest. Campers staying are fairly nice and respectable, but you will see the occasional annoying crowd. Tennants do come around and check tags. Payments are to be made by the restrooms, in a drop box. Keep in mind that prices are $20 per night but may be $30 per night during holidays, like Memorial Day and Labor Day weekend. Lots to do in the area and nice scenic trails to walk. Ferne Clyffe Lake stocks trout so be sure to have a fishing license, trout stamp and gear.

I will give this place 5 stars for the views, trails, and experience. Lovely campground, close to trails with amazing scenery, and the kids even swam in a shallow creek when the heat got to be too much. However, not being accustomed to Illinois, the signs were confusing, and w had no idea where to check in. There was a ticket on our sites, so we just set up camp. We didn't find where the check-in (a drop box by the bathrooms on the way out) was until the 3rd day. The bathrooms were the only complaint, the rest we figured out. They weren't very clean, but not trashy by any means. There were spiders in one stall, and my daughter discovered them and let me know by screaming. Only one soap dispenser worked. The showers had a door but no curtain, so there was nowhere to put anything we needed to keep dry. Which my Mom discovered when the shower came on and her clothes and towels were soaked. Adventuring, I suppose, lol. The head sprays a mist for maybe a minute or two. the temperature wasn't bad, but if you're short, you can forget washing your hair, let alone body without some serious effort. I know many people use campers these days, but we were tent camping, and in the heat, it's a necessity.

The grounds are gorgeous and the people are quiet, respectful and very nice. We stayed here one night on our way to South Carolina and there were only a handful of people staying in our loop. The only downside, and it was a big one, is the shower house was flooded with raw sewage. We were able to avoid the sewage to flush a toilet and watch sewage bubble up from the drains in the floor. We came in late last night, so we'll be looking for a host this morning if there is one to inform them of the health hazard.

The trails are beautiful and well maintained, reasonably well marked. What isn't well marked is how to get to the trails once entering ferns cliff state park. The actual sign at the main entrance is poorly placed , and parallel to the road. Once in the park there are zero signs that actually point to the trail heads. After a quick chat with the campground host, who was well educated on the park and area. We hiked 3 trails with our 5 year old and had a great time.. I will note, I wish illinios DNR did more to mark where people shouldn't be to preserve the park , and it's beauty. There were several disrespectful people in the creek beds chucking rocks, attempting to ' rock climb' in crock sandles , and scale the waterfall.

πŸ‘πŸ‘ Okay, so it's a little off the beaten path. Minimal cell service, but it was there. Great lake access if you like that sort of thing. The spaces are big, and when we were there in midsummer, about 90% empty. Wonderful, quiet and beautiful. Lots of shade.

πŸ‘πŸ‘ Both of my children went to Camp Ondessonk for 12 years. First as campers and then they continued to work there as young adults. My husband and I believe Camp O shaped who they are as people. They looked forward to going to camp all year long and never wanted to leave when it was time to go. Many...

😠 While the place is nice and we’ll maintained. Mary makes anything nice about this place a no go. From beginning to end the hate that rolls off her is unexplained and if you’re that miserable in life go find a cave to live in alone. I have been to this park even though the space was not in my name. T...
