This
is
a
great
rescue
center
for
wild
animals,
probably
the
largest
in
Bolivia,
were
you
can
also
volunteer.
Ask
for
a
guided
tour
to
understand
well
all
the
work
they
do.
Visiting
helps
with
60%
of
the
founding
to
keep
the
zoo
running.
I
have
found
that
many
people,
including
myself,
have
a
misconception
about
zoos,
they
are
no
places
were
wild
animals
are
kept
in
cages
that
otherwise
would
be
free,
but
rather
they
receive
wild
animals
that
have
been
rescued
from
animal
traffic
and
in
many
cases
found
out
of
their
habitat
because
of
the
lost
of
it
due
to
agriculture,
ranching,
and
deforestation
expansion.
They
treat
their
injuries,
feed
them
with
a
balanced
diet
for
that
species
and
age,
reintroduce
them
to
other
animals
when
possible
(same
or
different
species),
do
enrichment
for
behavior
preservation,
and
clean
their
living
areas
365
days
a
year,
as
a
consequence
animals
live
40
to
50%
longer
than
in
the
wild
(that's
why
most
animals
look
not
in
their
best
shape:
they
are
reallllly
old!)
The
Zookeepers
and
Vets
do
a
Great
work!
In
some
cases
they
also
keep
a
breeding
group
of
animals
in
case
the
species
gets
extinct
in
the
wild.
I
am
aware
of
the
excellent
work
they
do
because
my
wife
volunteered
there
for
quite
some
time.
