Typical Bayern food restaurant in Essen. Simple and great pork knuckle and draft beer. Portions are quite big.

The staff and the food was very good, however very careful with the prices. For example I ordered a „Schnitzel Wiener Art“ for 12,50€ as stated on the menu. The waiter then asked me to choose between French fries, fried potatoes and potato salad. I asked if these come with an additional charge and the waiter said no. My colleague was asked if he’d like a small side of salad (which is usually free in Germany, same with fries etc.). He said yes. After eating the food, which again was very tasty we asked for the bill. The waiter came and asked if we’d like to pay by card or cash. We said cash and were stated the amount without even receiving a bill. We had to ask for the bill specifically after we had paid. I did so because I paid suspiciously more than I had thought which I found weird. When we then got to see the bill I understood how I paid more than I thought. The side dishes we thought were free came at an additional charge! 2x fried potatoes for 2,50€ each + my colleagues small salad for 4,50€! After asking the waiter he explained that yes, fries are free, but fried potatoes and salads are not. However that is definitely not what was said while ordering. I specifically asked if these cost extra and the waiter just said no. He didn’t say only the fries are free. It’s such a shame because the food was really tasty. But this is unacceptable. And on a side note even if we knew these sides cost extra, the prices for them are ridiculous. 4,50 for a few pieces of lettuce and vegetables? Ouch! In total the food was a 8/10, the general friendliness of the staff a 9/10, the atmosphere a 9/10 and the prices/billing 3/10

Rustic place inspired by the Bavarian kitchen. However, they only have Lowenbrau "von Fass". Plates are inspired by Bavarian tradition. I tried a salad with chicken that was very generous as a portion. However. The chicken tasted as paper. Service is very good that deserve an extra star. Buying the same ingredients as Rosemarie place in Essen would ensure a higher quality. With improvements in food, it can be recommended.

It's probably the most typical German restaurant in the lazy Essen city center..better to reserve a table, in Essen is not easy to find a table for big groups. We were maybe 15 and service was terribly slow, we waited more than 1 h for the food . Beer was good, place is funny for not German people because a classic wooden place and food was OK. Naturally we had the pork shinl and was big and with regular taste...there is space outside and inside.

Great dishes on the menu. Unfortunately the preparation/ taste is quite boring.

A very nice place. Must visit if you are in the area and up for local food. It is very vibrant and jn the city center. We walked there so unsure with the parking situation. Did not notice much parking olaces outside, but that does not mean they do not exist. Not sure if child friendly, but a great place for friends. Great beer, great food and great service.

Being a tourist I thought I would have a warm welcome from the two staff on the contrary it was the opposite. The bold white gentleman served me was lukewarm friendly and kept staring at me which felt awkward. The Second Gentleman (muscular waiter) served me water in a hostile manner, I felt very intimidated and uncomfortable. Maybe they don’t like people of colour hence the hostility towards a mixed race British person. Regarding the food, the grilled chicken burger was delicious but the chips were undercooked.

The food here is pretty good with the fair price. But the food comes so long, you have to wait for a long time. Otherwise the others are good.

Nice typical German place to eat traditional German food, people there are nice and welcoming. You can drink German beer and have a numerous choice of dishes. I cannot say it was the best food I had in my life but it was simple and seemed homemade. Portions are pretty consequent

Good German restaurant, gigantic beer when you ask for a large one🤣, nice location and atmosphere. Friendly staff and clean bathrooms. Warm place to sit after a cold Christmas market evening.

The food was great and the staff were really friendly. Would recommend sitting inside or behind the glass, as we had several people ask for money while sitting at the outside tables.

Loved the service, the place and the beer, the staff is very patient and friendly, they made some adjustments to our order and the place itself it's very comfortable on the inside, would love to come back again.

Awesome spot for traditional German food in Essen. If you're here for Spiel and want a classic taste, this is the spot. Besides a selection of beers and wine, there are also a ton of cocktails on the menu. Highly recommended!

We did get warned that the kitchen had a lot to do, but I still think 1 hour and 40 minutes from ordering to being served is exceptionally long, even with the warning. Our group was fairly large, I think 15-20, so it's no wonder that our tables were served bit by bit, but one of our tables had already eaten and left well before the last of us even got our food. Everyone seemed to really enjoy the food though, so that's positive, but my vegetarian Flammkuchen (a kind of pizza-like dish) was way too salty.

Good value food, highly recommend the roast pork knuckle. For a couple, I would recommend a knuckle and extra portion of salad is enough unless you want to indulge. The Apfelstrudel looks very tasty.
