I don't think you'll find a more gracious host at a B&B. I have stayed at many other B&B's in my travels and this place is truely exceptional. Mike is a very energetic, personable and pay attention to detail super star. He made our group of 4 feel amazingly special and comfortable during our 2 day stay in early Dec. 2012. We felt very much at home and enjoyed relaxing and getting to know our host. Mike gave us a nice detailed map of Cologne and his opinions on how best to spend our limited time to see the Christmas Markets as well as other how to get a feel for the city as a whole. Every recommendation was a hit for us. Our room was upstairs with it's own private bathroom. Although you have to leave the bedroom to use the bathroom right next door it is down a very private hallway. The room and bathroom were very clean. The decor of the home is very modern and original as the owner is also an artist. As every other writer has mentioned, the breakfast is amazing. It's kind of overwhelming but Mike was on hand to explain what he had presented and how to eat it to get the best taste (being American we don't all know how to eat a pate!) My birthday was on the day of our check out. Mike graciously invited us back in the afternoon to celebrate with a cupcake that I can only describe as an explosion of warm chocolate in my mouth. He also owns Mr. Cupcake. If you only have time to visit 1 city for the Christmas Market season, make it Cologne. After we left Cologne we took a 7 day cruise on the Rhine River to visit Christmas Markets in Germany, France and Switzerland. Cologe was by far the highlight on this side of Germany. Book early and stay B&B Cologne and you will not be disappointed. The location is very central and easy to get to the majority of markets. The nights were very quiet for a good night's rest.

Update: August 2016 Zur Gamescom mal wieder in der Domstadt und im B & B Cologne herzlich empfangen worden. Das B & B liegt sehr zentral zur Messe unweit vom Rhein am Rande der Altstadt, und trotzdem ruhig. Die Einrichtung ist modern aber trotzdem sehr gemütlich. Vor allem die moderne Kunst macht sich hervorragend in dem Penthaus. Der Gastgeber hat einen kleinen Stadtan mit den Sehenswürdigkeiten, den Restaurants und anderen Highlights für uns vorbereitet, das nenn ich Service. Unser Zimmer war geräumig vor allem sauber und das eigene Bad direkt daneben. TV und Wlan stehen kostenlos zur Verfügung. Das Frühstück ( mehr als Brunch ) zu bezeichnen ist einfach allein schon die 5 Sterne wert, alles wurde frisch zubereitet und liebevoll dekoriert serviert. Unglaublich aber die Fotos sprechen ja eine eigene Sprache. Am Abend haben wir wunderbar auf der Terrasse gesessen und Wein genossen und Mieze der Hauskater hat uns Gesellschaft geleistet. Rundrum perfekt, wir können das B & B Cologne Filzengraben nur empfehlen und buchen bei unserm nächsten Köln Trip garantiert wieder. Fazit: wer etwas ausergewöhnliches sucht, Katzen mag und Gastfreundschaft schätzt, sollte hier buchen. Dieses B & B wird mir viel Liebe und Passion betrieben. Ich habe schon in vielen B & B´s auf der ganzen Welt übernachtet, aber eine solche Gastfreundschaft habe ich selten erlebt. Von außen ( das B & B ist in einem Mehrfamilienhaus) sieht das ganze doch ehr unscheinbar aus. Ist man aber mit einem Aufzug erst einmal im Penthaus angekommen erwartet einen eine helle modern aber warm eingerichtete helle Wohnung, mit vielen Fenstern, moderner Kunst und einem tollen Blick auf die Domstadt. Das Gästezimmer im Dachgeschoss erreicht man innerhalb der Wohnung über eine Treppe, die aber für Kinder oder ältere Gäste nicht geeignet ist, denn sie ist doch etwas steil. Ich denke auch das dieses B & B doch eher etwas für Paare oder Alleinreisende ist, für Familien mit Kindern eher nicht geeignet. Schon der Empfang ist warm und freundlich, aber nicht übertrieben. Zur Begrüßung gab es Kaffee und Kuchen und einen kleinen Stadtplan, auf dem alle wichtigen Sehenswürdigkeiten bereits eingetragen waren. Auch Restaurants und andere Tipps waren dort eingezeichnet. Schön empfand ich auch, das dieses B & B sehr zentral unweit vom Rhein und der Altstadt, jedoch in der Nacht ruhig liegt. Unser Zimmer war hell, modern und mit allem was man auf einer Reise benötigt ausgestattet. Wir konnten einen kostenlosen Internetzugang nutzen und hatten Empfang in der gesamten Wohnung, einschließlich der Terrasse.Der Hauskater „ Mieze „ ist ein netter Geselle, etwas schüchtern aber mit Leckerlis kann man ihn doch locken. Das Frühstück ist ein Kapitel für sich, selten habe ich ein solches Frühstück serviert bekommen. Frisches Obst, Kefir und selbstgemachte Salate. Wurst, Käse und Fisch, hausgemachte Marmeladen, frisches Brot und Brötchen, Müsli, Spiegelei mit Speck und, und, und ! Man mag überhaupt nicht mehr aufstehen vom Frühstückstisch. Das B & B, für ein Doppelzimmer 140,- € für die Nacht, ist nicht ganz preiswert, aber jeden Cent wert, für das was man geboten bekommt. Ich kann jedem Köln Besucher guten Gewissens empfehlen, hier zu übernachten.

“Eine Nacht ist viel zu wenig!” Meine Frau und ich sind bereits zum zweiten mal in diesem Bed & Breakfast. Hier hat einfach bei beiden Aufenthalten alles gepasst, von der Buchung bis zum Empfang alles sehr serviceorientiert. Die Lage des B & B Cologne genial, die Zimmer geräumig und modern, sauber und haben ein super bequemes Bett. Das Frühstück unbeschreiblich, das Personal und der Inhaber sind einfach Klasse. Es gab tolle Tipps zum einkaufen, Essen gehen oder einfach rund um Köln und natürlich zu den Weihnachtsmärkten. In Köln gibt es noch viel zu sehen und erleben für uns - auf jeden Fall ist dann das B & B Cologne wieder unser Ausgangspunkt. Herzlichen Dank noch einmal für den Extraservice am Abreisetag.

We stayed at this B&B for just one night to see the David Hockney exhibition. We went with the four of us, two couples. When we arrived at the B&B we were very warmly welcomed by our new friend Mike, the host of the B&B. After he showed us our lovely rooms (we'll get to that later) he invited us for coffee and cake in his livingroom. While drinking coffee he showed us on a map where the nice parts of town are and where to go for the best meal and drinks. It turned out to be all the places we were looking for. Because the B&B is so central, everything was at a walking distance. The rooms have everything you need. A great bed, an even greater view. Mike even turned on a romantic nightlight for when we came back. Also, there's a television (but who needs that), wifi, a large bathroom and a balcony for the smoking kind. The next day we were surprised by the greatest breakfast ever. We did our best to eat as much as possible, but at the end it looked like we ate nothing. There was so much! Different kinds of bread, salad, eggs, fruit, you name it. The table almost wasn't big enough. Combine that with an always smiling host and your day is allready perfect. The next time i'm visiting Köln, I won't doubt to give Mike a call. I suggest you do the same.

This is a rare gem found that you almost don't want to brag too much. Comfortable, Modern and Warm. Breakfast is a feast and is a good way to understand all that is typical of German. Prepared with so much attention and variety, you simply must sample all the special condiments, hams, breads and fruit. Everything is prepared fresh and best quality. The bedroom is super chic and comfortable; you feel recharge every day! I don't want to spoil too much of the experience by over writing about - but let's just say that I love my hotels but i make it a point to stay here every time in

A nicely furnished apartment with a terrific host. The best breakfast I’ve had in a B&B – 5 star quality! Comfortable like home, and a good location provides a short walk to restaurants and shops and trains are 4 minutes away. Mike has great advice for local food, shops, sights, etc. He knows a lot about the city - trust his advice, he wont steer you wrong! Will stay again - already booked for next year!

Wir haben das Bed & Breakfast über Airbnb gebucht. Der erste Kontakt war prima unkompliziert und freundlich . Gebucht haben wir zwei Doppelzimmer jeweils mit eigenem Bad. Alles ist sauber und schön eingerichtet. Der Gastgeber ist Künstler und man hat das Gefühl in einer Galerie zu übernachten. Ein absolutes Highlight ist die tolle Terrasse mit großem Sonnensegel, man Sitz in der Lounge wunderbar und kann bis spät in die Nacht den ereignisreichen Tag an sich vorbeiziehen lassen. Köln ist eine Reise wert und diese Unterkunft wirklich ein Geheim Tipp. Wir kommen sicher wieder ! Vielen Dank für den tollen Service .

My brother and I stayed at Mike's B&B for a few weeks during Anouga and WOW. Truly one of those experiences you will remember and talk about your whole life. Clean, modern, stylish, comfortable, daily breakfast of kings and extremely friendly and helpful host. You will be pampered. Plus Mike's B&B was very affordable relative to the other accommodations options given the busy period. Skips hotels while in Cologne. Mike's B&B will give you the experience of a lifetime. And do try his fantastic cupcakes while you're there. Light, fresh and original. You will not look at a cupcake the same way ever again.

We booked the rooms for our employees via AirBnB, were handled very professionally and extremely friendly from the booking to the contact on the check-in to the departure. The rooms are very nice and in the bathroom everything was available what you needed. The entire penthouse is beautifully decorated, modern but comfortable. The highlight is the beautiful terrace where we had our breakfast and spent the evenings with the colleagues. Would stay here again anytime!
