April 2023 - Second time here with 12yr old daughter and after a year, the portion sizes don't seem as filling although we did purposely go in having fasted for 20hrs so maybe that was the difference and not effects of inflation. We ordered two mains (beef burger with fries and lamb rump roast) as well as a side of curly fries. The flavours were good, veges fresh and presentation was nice. Curly fries are amazing. Ended up ordering the chicken pizza as we were still hungry. Perfectly cooked and presented. The mango Bundaberg was a flavour I've not seen or tried before and it was one of the highlights. Excellent service from the staff and chill quiet atmosphere. Don't think I would attend here having to pay full price so thanks again to First Table. ‐-------------- April 2022 - Took a couple friends here for lunch. Easy location just off the motorway with ample parking nearby. Table was reserved thanks to our booking but the place wasn't too busy on a public holiday. Service was fast, friendly and efficient. First up we ordered some peach mocktails which were garnished with mint, sweet tasty and delicious. One of the group ordered a tap beer and it was chilled and well poured. The kids chicken pasta dish looked and smelled delicious and the child said it was cheesey and yum. The loaded wedges were stacked on a melted cheese base, covered in bacon and seasonings and topped with a generous serving of sour cream. Would be enough for a main or to share as a side between 4. The other chips and curly fries were so good and came with aioli and were big servings as well. I got the goddess salad which was fresh and came with watermelon cubes (yum) and a tasty vinaigrette. I ordered the salad as is (with the feta) for the photo but my friends happy added the feta to their loaded wedges. I also ordered the chargrilled broccollini which was so yummy, El dente if that can even be a term for vegetables and the slightly spicey sauce on the edge of the plate was a nice touch. My friends ordered the beef burger and said the patty was so tasty and delicious - highly recommended. The meat pizza had fresh toppings, crispy base and the cheeses were tasty. For dessert - the selection of sorbet was super sweet. The peach layer on the bottom was our favorite. Nice touch with the pistachio crumb topping. The sizzling brownie was definitely an exciting display and although tasted yummy, would suggest requesting the ice-cream on the side rather than on the hot plate. Enjoyed a couple friendly games of pool before we left. Good music (the classics) and good vibes. My friends are already planning their return visit.

I'm disgusted at the managers behavior at backyard bar. Why advertise your business on first table if you loathe the people who use it? We felt humiliated by her loudness pointing out all the dishes we had ordered were not included and she sarcastically suggested we "pay full price like everyone else" then she told us off for not reading the fine print even though I was apologetic for my mistake and happy to pick something else. I was kind to her out of fear she might do something to my food. My husband was furious and wanted to leave but we promised our kids fun on the playground. To make things worse the steak was rubbery and hard to chew and the ribs tasted microwaved. When it was time to pay I was told I had to purchase two more drinks as my 4 and 6yr old only had water. I'd already spent $18 on an aperol spritz served in the smallest wine glass I've ever seen. Horrible experience!

Ok not being bar habitue, this was made more pleasant by the affable and professional service workers, the food looked good and the vegetarian options were abundant

I would not recommend the Pork Belly, as much as the chef tried to tell me it was pork belly they "rolled" you can see by the photo it's a dried pork steak and nothing like a pork belly. Very disappointed in their lack of response.

The worst food on a plate!!! ordered a chicken burger and a meat burger it was like they had heated the burgers in the microwave. The meat was so hard and the chicken was like string the hot chips were okay. Worst of all was when I brought it to there attention they said nothing. When I made a complaint the next morning the owner could not be bothered to contact me. That pretty much says it all.

The manager, or the person in charge of the bar, asked for $200 just for us to borrow BBQ facility that was already there… We were bringing our own food to grill. He probably thought we were tourists that didn’t know its either coins or free of charge at parks.

We got nacho’s, jalapeño bites, and Korean fried chicken. The nacho chips were stale. Food was over cooked/ extremely dry. We went to watch the game. Unfortunately the projector kept going blank and cutting out which isn’t ideal with a live game. Not a great experience. Has really gone downhill since we used to come regularly (3-4 years ago).

Totally disappointed. Service was unfriendly, like the staff did not even want to be there. Playground for the kids was dirty with plastic cups and rubbish all around. All could do with a good waterblast and the pool painted. Food was nice but expensive for what it was. Massive difference from years back when it was a thriving establishment. Will not go back again.

Easy going staff and atmosphere. Children friendly with large grass, playground, pool and pool table. Pool is in middle of outside area so it's easy to supervise.

It was a busy night, we waited more than one hour for the food coming. Overcooked chicken , burned burger. Not very impressed.

Great multi purpose space. We were having an early dinner with friends. The kids could play in the playground. By the time we were leaving there was a dance class and a quiz happening and all could happen quite happily side by side and not overly affecting the others.

Awesome atmosphere. Swimming pool with outside seatings. I tried the Korean Fried Chicken burger with fries, it is good but not the best. My order took a little long time though

Was pretty high price for a beer.cider and hot chips$37 But it was a holiday so I guess thats ok. A lot of the tables outside are run down. Leaner is about to collapse. Pool needs painting. Pool gate doesn't self close as the spring is stuffed. The tables need a stain. The courtyard needs a good clean really

Came for drinks…The “Boss” man and the Manager lady were not friendly at all… Would not advise ordering any Cocktails from these guys because it seemed like such a chore… Service from these two was pretty poor and seeing as we were the only people in the venue at around 8pm on a Thursday night, One would have thought they would have appreciated the custom a little more…. Seeing as we blew almost $120 on 6 cocktails…. Wouldn’t advise people to come here! Go to Bushman’s Grill next door!!! The blonde lady from Tauranga was lovely the whole time though!!

Had a quiet drink by the pool and it was nice. The staff went out of her way to help us with a candle for our room, which was awesome. Good service

Love The backyard bar, service and report is really commendable. Recently have changed their menu. We tried the chicken burgers and tacos 🌮 😋 was delicious

Almost perfect. My daughter and I come along on Tuesday evenings to join the bachata/salsa lessons. Never remember our drinks. I wanna go where everyone knows your name and if not, then your drink 🙂

Loved it. Great staff. Fantastic outdoor area and so clean. Yum bar snacks.

Had the sirloin, perfectly cooked medium rare and was a quality cut. Roast veges were amazing too. Service was fast and friendly. Only down side was the booth I sat in was very shabby with badly cracked cushions, but not going to hold that against them given how good the food was.

It's midnight, I can hear the music, bass and screaming all the way from across the park, past the valley and behind the AUT. I am unable to sleep. Terrible noise pollution and ruining what is other wise a very nice area.

A really nice team of people who show a strong dedication to ensure things run as smoothly as possible in today's challenging environment. They also make a strong effort to know their customers. Good food, big screen and great staff.

Dined here during a pub quiz and found the food an absolute joke. Tiny lacklustre portions for pretty hefty prices. Left a sour taste. Won’t be back.

Great location, great venue, but team, you need to up your game. Staff, mediocre, food appalling, had to wait for ever for our order. Very aware of hospitality hassles, but make it work people you failed miserably last night.

Went to the backyard last night with a group of mates and had a great time. Super friendly waitress who made amazing recommendations about the food and drink. Sat in a cute outdoor area and enjoyed some tasty frozen cocktails. Will definitely be back again. Thanks :)

Free fun for kids while grown ups have some fun of their own! Yesterday we went to the Backyard bar opposite Takapuna rugby club. The set up for kids is amazing. There is a swimming pool, bouncy castle and playground for the kids, craft beers for the grown ups and great food and live music for the whole family. Well be back!

Love the atmosphere. Friendly staff and good customer service. Happy hours finish at 6pm but the lovely waitress took our order at 6pm with special price. A bit disappointed with the steak and the ribs.

A little slow to get table service, but once we did, fantastic service and very accommodating, especially with children. Seriously though...huge need to replace seat coverings in booths! Very unattractive and unpleasant to sit on.
