As fresh as it gets, very local feel and beautiful views. Ok size crayfish special. My only suggestion is to rethink the food packaging for sit-down meals as most customers eat there and use their hands so less plastic and polystyrene would help the environment.

Wow...wow. wow....this is my honest review.... Thought I would go to Kalkys today and felt like fish & chips... man I totally regret it....waited in a long line & mostly because they are cash only and then direct you to a small little kiosk atm which charges you a arm and a leg ...bought the family box R290 and Dam was my partner and myself disappointed, so much so that we felt robbed & we literally gave the whole meal away....... meal didnt look good & tasted like meal was prepared In old oil & the Calamari felt stiff ....just wasn't good at all...... Well lesson learnt......we won't be going back......

This place is a must when in Kalk Bay. I can't imagine not going to enjoy the fresh fish and chips they have to offer. It is a typical old school fisheries that serves freshly fried fish, great service, and operates with cash only. I love just sitting there and enjoying the view and food and chilled vibes.

This place is famous for good reason! Exceptional fish and chips! Their grilled option is gluten-free and worth the extra R15 (in 2023) and 30-minute wait. Portion sizes are generous, and the menu has great value options. The setting is rustic. The service is poor, but I guess something has to give. I will definitely go back. High chairs available. Cash only (but there is an ATM on the premises).

I always have a portion of snoek and hake here with chips. Their prices are good and portion sizes quite large. The flavours are good, with excellent crisp on the batter. From all the fish and chips shops that I’ve tried in the cape, these are the best chips. Fresh hand cut and consistently good. The fish while tasty is a bit too oily, a contradiction I know, as its oil fried, but still it always ends up a bit too oily when served. Really enjoyable nevertheless. The surroundings are amazing here, a great little town and harbour to explore. My most recent lunch here in September 23. Even a cold stormy morning didn’t stop me. Yet again they served me a really good lunch. The crayfish on special is a bargain and really tasty at the same time.

I went here with the highest expectations, but was very quickly disappointed. The service was not good, the people seem disinterested and rude. The food was atrocious, it looks good in theory but the fish lacked flavour and everything had a lather of oil on it, i ended up regretting spending R100 rand on such poorly made food. The hake is riddled with bones and i ended up dousing my food with salt and vinegar to get some sort of okay flavouring. Definitely will not be visiting again. Snoekies is way better.

If you haven't been to this cape town classic you are doing yourself a great disservice. I travel over an hour to get their fish and chips and it's totally worth it . They've added to their menu and the crayfish is to die . Be wary of the portion sizes and be prepared to share as I don't know anyone that can finish their combos

Great atmosphere and of course, great fish and chips! The car park can get a bit busy, even on weekdays, but there's always more parking in the upper lot or across the road over by Olympia. Keep an eye on their daily specials and don't forget they are cash only (but there is an ATM inside).

The atmosphere is super authentic and really cool. Loved that the most. Food is brilliant but on par with the majority of fish and chips in the cape to be fair. Definite favourite for fish and chips and a must do if you in the area - nothing is near as authentic.

Fresh, delicious, BEST fish and chips. Great atmosphere and very well priced. A lovely little local eatery on the Kalk Harbour, don't be put off by the look. Best fish and chips I have ever had.

Fantastic fish and chips! Large pieces of battered hake and chips. Fresh and awesome. Kalky's certainly has stood the test of time for decades, offering customers an authentic Cape Town cultural experience. Patrons can enjoy a glass or bottle of wine (beers and ciders too) with their meals. They only accept cash for payments, however they do have an ATM inside the venue for clients who only have cards. Definitely worth visiting. Great experience.

Such a lovely typical local restaurant with tasty sea food right at the fish market next to the ocean. It serves fresh fish with chips and salat with reasonable prices. The location is a great place to eat.

This establish is as rustic and as authentic as you are going to get. Don't expect fine dining, it's more like a varsity cafeteria. We were lucky with the crayfish and tuna specials. Because it's grilled it took over 40 mins, but it was worth it. While we waited, we snacked on some great smoked snoek and pickled octopus... the surroundings with the crashing waves and boisterous fishermen really enhanced the ambience. And if you are lucky, you will see the naughty sea lions harassing the fishermen for fish scraps.

This was a great place to grab some fish and chips!! Super casual which we love. We sat outside under the shade and had a great view of the town, boats, and water. Got our food quickly and it was very reasonablely priced! Cash only but they have an ATM

Recommended as best fish and chips on this coastline. I ordered by George a Hake & Chips + calamari and why not fish cake - next time only hake & calamari 🤪. The sea foods are delicious. You just need to wait 45min. At afternoon you still have good sun to have first some beer and enjoy atmosphere.

Kalky’s Platter was delicious. Just the fish and chips you want. Value for money, reasonably priced. If you are in Kalk Bay, definitely try out the spot. NB: Please note they only accept cash, no card payments. There is a ATM inside that you can withdraw from.

This is not your 5 star restaurant, it's better... great local food from the locals. The uncle behind the till doesn't hear the order so well so I had to correct him a few times but perhaps it was my English... no big deal anyway. It was good for the experience.

👍 Very nice and cozy restaurant right on the main street. Everyone loved their food and the service was great. There are parking available on the street but it can become very busy. Best would be to go by train as the station is right across the road.
