Dasara Dibba or the Mahanavami Dibba is a beautiful stone platform located within the Royal Enclosure of Hampi. It was built during the Vijayanagara period by King Krishnadevaraya to commemorate his victory over Udaygiri. It was here where the King of Vijayanagar used to celebrate the festival of Dasara (Dussehra). However, The Dasara Dibba is in a ruined state now with damaged carvings on the side of the platform. UNESCO and the Government have taken proper steps in preserving the heritage for future generations.

The king used this platform to watch the army march-pasts, war games, aquatic sports, shows of the royal animals, musical performances and also the most important Navaratri celebrations, the nine day-nine night state festival. And this was the annual occasion the governors of various provinces under the king visited the capital to pledge their loyalty to the king’s dominion.

This was built by king Krishnadevraya on his victory over orissa. The king used to watch his army by standing on the platform. This was later more developed by successive kings. The platform has carvings of Elephant, Horses& all the art forms of that time like achary. You can visit this after Bijay Vitthal Temple. You can see pushkarni from here which a step well near to it. Also musical plates are also close to this place.

A must visit. The experience would be good if you take the services of the guides over here. They explain well on each carving on the monuments, the story of how dussera started here and how it was celebrated. What the platform meant to the king and how from the top of the platform one could see all the different areas for each type of festivity. Overall a truly beautiful historical fact to know about. Do take a hat or cap and plenty of water if you are going during noon. It can get very hot. Where light clothes and good shoes that you can hike with.

Massive and magnificent stone platform! Located within the Royal Enclosures, this elevated structure is believed to be built to celebrate the victory of the King Krishnadevaraya over Udayagiri (Orissa). The king used to watch the cultural activities, war games, military activities etc. from the top of this structure. This is also called Dasara Dibba, as the king of Vijayanagara used to celebrate the festival of Navratri and Dussehra here. The carvings of elephants, horses etc. along the stairways are highly impressive. One can see the wide view of the Royal Enclosure from the top of the structure.

This is the tallest structure in this area and hence the first thing you would notice as you enter the Royal Enclosure. From a distance this looks like an ordinary elevated square stage. As you go close, the details emerge. The whole structure is made as a giant square structure in three layers. There are mainly two stairways to reach the top. The front one (east facing) is highly decorated on either sides with carvings of elephants, horses and a host of other things. On the top there is nothing special to see except the great views on the campus around it. At the back of the platform a twin staircase is located. Probably this was used as a service staircase during the ceremonies. Generally one climb up through the front stair & get down through the rear, though there are no restrictions.

(Visited in June 2019) - It's a large, tall, raised platform overlooking the entire Royal enclosure where congregation of people & nobles took place during special occasions. The view from the top, overlooking the entire ruins and excavated sites of Hampi is spectacular! 👌 #WorldHeritageSite

If you are visiting Hampi during hot days, avoid going here during the noon time. This place was the very first of its kind where we could sense the meaning of RUINS. I was like, how can someone destroy the structures which could have been so beautiful. This place has a big placement which has staircase and you can climb on it to get a bird's eye view of the surrounding. If you are in small kids, please be careful with them once you climb on top. The steps are slightly huge and some might find it tough to climb on it. But the view from the top is very scenic. You will see the ruins till your eyesight goes. This area is covering many other places, it has a lake kinda thing, it has a small field full of roses. And few other small structures.

This is the Mahanavami Dibba where the King used to observe the processions of the Dusshera Celebrations. It is constructed at a significant height and offers a great view of the surrounding area. The top floor has remnants of pillars which suggests it was covered. It also has a lower floor from where the King could descend to the back entrance of the Mahanavami Dibba. Think of the ceremonies and countless processions this place witnessed.

The tallest structure in the area as one enters the royal enclosure. While it looks like an ordinary elevated square stage from a distance, one can be surprised with the details in the 3 layers .. the sides of the 3 layered platform basically flutes design with chains of elephants one behind another... the most celebrated of the carvings are of the sidewall panels in the bottom that is dexterously carved sculptures and ornamentations depicting the royal life to the city life to the erstwhile foreign envoys to the kingdom to the hunting scenes and so on... one can get to see things from the Portuguese to Arabic to Chinese connections ...this was constructed by Krishnadevaraya in commemoration on his victory over Udaygiri.. this was the platform the kings used to watch the army March pasts, war games and festivities viz Navaratri...etc. definitely a must visit.. while it's little tedious to climb the stairs from the front one can use the stairs behind that's quite comfortable.. probably these were the ones used by the Royals then!?

The heart of the Royal enclosure . A “stage” made with layers of big stones with wonderful inscriptions on them . The steps lead you to the top of the viewing platform which gives you a wonderful view of the expansive Royal area . It must have truly been the heart of the Vijayanagara empire.

It is a platform 80 square feet in area and 22 feet in height which was built by Krishnadevaraya in memory of his conquest of Orissa. The biggest attraction here is the place and the scluptures drwan on the walls depicting Hunting scenes, dance postures and mythological pictures like Krishna and Arjuna on a chariot at Kurukshetra. In the first line there is a procession of Elephants, also do check out one of the beautiful attraction called stepped tank or Pushkarni besides.

This is a three tired stone platform rising to over 20 feet and located in the North East of the royal enclosure. The structure is beautifully built and reasonably well preserved. The mouldings are in typical Vijayanagara Style of architecture. Apparently this platform was used for important royal events.

Once mighty Vijaynagara Kings sat on their throne on this place and oversaw the functioning of their empire from here. The structure is majestic. Majestic platform, which was once being used by kings of vijayanagara for watching mahanavami procession. Gives us an insight about the richness of sanatana culture. The structure is made up of many layers of beautifully carved (like horses, elephants, soldiers etc.) stones. Beautiful view from the top. Adjacent to "mahanavami dibba", there are many interesting places, first, a "sacred pond"(pushkarani) which was dug in the shape of "shree chakra". Second, The pipelines laid out to fill the pond with water is just amazing. Third the underground channel/chamber. Must visit place when you're in Hampi.

It's believed that Dasara procession and celebrations were started during Vijayanagara era. The Mahanavami dibba which is situated inside royal enclosure is used by the kings to watch the procession. There are two entrances to climb to the top of the stage. As in date the top surface of the stage is totally flat but you can see some traces which might tell you that there were some structures built and destroyed gradually. Best time to visit the place is during winters else you can't beat the heat.

It's a historical place where all events of the 15th century where all Royal families use to sit and address the people or attend functions like holi, Dashera with their Royal 11 elephant. The king was Krishnadevaraya. Photos of stage where all sandel wood pillers.amd Madap was built is there but unfortunately Muslim king burnt all of the historical places and damaged them. The black colour stone there is carving of all animals and their masters how it was bought checked and selected. There are separate steps on the back side of the top mandap for royal family entry. The black round plate which is made of stone and it was used for soldiers to serve food so there is a spot on the way to Lotus temple where all the plates are kept where all soldiers use to sit and eat.

VICTORY PLATFORM Mahanavami Dibba A distinctive feature in the royal enclosure is the Dibba (platform), which sits on a natural elevation and is 12m (40ft) high. The platform is thought to have been built in stages and was completed in the 16th century to celebrate Krishnadeva Raya's victory over Orissa. The king sat on top of this dais, which faces east, and watched the celebration of the Mahanavami or Dashehra festival that took place over nine days at the end of the monsoon, after which the king planned his military strategy. Each of the three ascending tiers of the platform has carved scenes in panels. In 1520, Domingo Paes, a Portuguese visitor, called this a "House of Victory".

The entire area covering the main centre of king Krishnadev Raya'set of Kingdom. It also has Diwane khas and Diwane aam, secret conference room, queens chinnadevi and thirumalambas palaces, mint for coining gold silver and bronze currencies prevalent in circulation at the time. (Though Althea except secret rooms are in ruins and only the the plinth as reconstructed by archeological Survey of India can be seen) In fact the area of passive of Queens and king are still being excavated since 2009 and one hopes the glory of those days is restored soon. The Mahanavani dibba (a huge platform of about 30 feet) was constructed to celebrate the Navratris and Dasherra. On the day of Dasherra the goddess bhuvaneshwari devi was worshipped with big fanfare and a lot cultural activities were performed. It was from here that the custom of celebrating Dasherra started.
