This is a great place to stay in Kampala. It has good security, decent WiFi, acceptable beds, a great restaurant and bar, lots of planned activities, and nice staff. When I was there a good reggae band was playing. It’s also located centrally. In the chaos and dubious safety of Kampala, it always felt like I was coming home to a secure place with good food and many fun customers. A place in which I could relax! Since many people recommend not going out at night in the city, this is a great hostel in which to spend all evening. You won’t get bored. My home in Kampala! I appreciated it tremendously.

The rooms are very basic. The furniture is looking old. The towels should not have the name of towels but rugs. They are very old and stained. The pictures you see on Google do not represent reality at all. The beds are small in length. If you are cold at night, there is just a Masai blanket that you can add to the bedsheet. The mattresses are cheap foam mattresses. Positive notes: the service is good. The food is good. Good hangout also. All in all, I recommend the place to hang out, have food, etc. But not for a night over.

The food is good here! It’s a fun place to stay but the rooms are a bit hot for us. I’ve heard some rooms have fans in them but we never had any. Also we woke up to a loud pop last time we stayed there. Our wall outlet fried our phone charger. I’ve heard of this happening to others as well. Other than that, the service is nice and restaurant is very good.

Excellent backpacker's place to stay. My friend stayed there for three weeks and said they had good service plus they can recommend to you good tour operators. They have theme nights like Tuesdays are always for quizzes where the winning team gets free beers. I stayed for a night and their customer service was really nice. Breakfast is included . Great relaxing and working space in case of need. They have a hostel and single plus double rooms Wash rooms are shared though.

Quick beer and a slice of pizza in the way home. Pleasing environment. Pizza wasn't particularly special but palatable all the same.

Super clean, super friendly and helpful staff for every request from tours to trusted boda drivers. love also the district, feels safe and central. I'm also enjoying the wifi. The menu could have more healthy options. Other than that I love the atmosphere, recommended! :)

I have spent almost 5 months in total at Bushpig over two visits, and my partner has spent nearly 8 over four visits. It's the only hostel we consider staying at in Kampala! My 5 star rating is relative for the fact it's a hostel and given the prices; you won't find a much better place to stay for the price & location when it comes to hostel living. The rooms are clean and the suites are have plenty of space and lovely balconies. The food and drinks at the hostel are super convenient and really yummy, and the staff are absolutely wonderful. We love the location in the Kololo neighborhood (though it can be a bit loud at night so earplugs can be helpful; this is true for pretty much anywhere in Kampala as the clubs keep the volume high on weekends and occasional week nights). The hostel has a dedicated security team too which makes Bushpig super safe place to stay. Don't miss the Quiz Nights on tuesdays, which bring locals and travelers to the pub area for a night of fun!

We booked a private double room, which cost a lot extra compared to the cheapest alternative in the dorms. The reason for this, is because we wanted a bit of privacy and own bathroom. Unfortunately the WiFi is terrible and the temperature of the water in the shower is either super cold or boiling. So not great value for money - the staff and great pizzas makes up for it but this is extremely disappointing

Very friendly and helpful staff, comfortable bed with mosquito net, clean, bright and spacious rooms, good showers and decent wifi available throughout (it did drop a few times but better than other places we stayed). I liked the homemade furniture in the rooms -- each was unique and gave us plenty of space to neatly store our stuff. We just returned from safari and they washed a basket of our laundry for only 10,000 shillings -- clean and dry the next day! What service. Great place to stay to explore the city. Kampala is very spread out and hilly so you will need to take taxi or boda-boda (motorcycle taxi) to reach some places. Bushpig will help you figure it all out. They sent us an email a few days before check-in that included info about different services in the city. We did the walking tour that they recommended -- it was excellent as it allowed us street level access to neighbourhoods that would be difficult to visit on our own. We also went to the hair salon recommended for a long overdue haircut. The restaurant suggestions were also very good, as is the in-house restaurant, where we enjoyed many meals. We participated in Quiz Night on Tuesday with dozens of locals -- all the tables were full with young Ugandans and some ex-pats, which was a lot of fun. The place was buzzing. It was nice to see another side of life in Uganda. We walked to the mall, ATM and the Uganda Museum -- so it is possible to see some of the city independently. We stayed in two different rooms: 32 (top floor with en-suite and balcony, quieter as it is a bit farther from the road) and 24 (shared bathroom with balcony). We had to leave at 2 am for the airport and they sent us off with a packed breakfast that we enjoyed in the airport. Bushpig staff are available on WhatsApp -- they replied quickly before and during our stay.

Located near to the Acacia mall and very safe area. Options : shared room with shared beds or twin beds - single (small 6f) room etc. For this toilets are shared as well but it’s super cool because they clean them frequently. The staff is very helpful and kind (except the ones at the restaurant. They are unfriendly). Food is very nice and great value for 20 dollars per night

Bushpig was a great place for a long weekend in Kampala! The location is unbeatable, the staff at the reception is super knowledgeable and helpful (and help set up awesome tours for you), and all of the organized events are a great way to meet everyone staying there. Rooms are solid, some mosquito nets need to be replaced, and bathrooms are fine/pretty clean (hot showers were incredible). Restaurant staff is sometimes not as amicable as the reception, but food is still good.

I didn't actually get to stay there, I was blown off on entry into the premises. For the amount charged, you'd expect at least bed and breakfast. Well ue only get a bed, shared bathroom and everything else you need comes for not less than $6. Place is a scam!!!

Friendly staff, good tasting and good portion size meals, and clean accommodations. Hot shower and clean bathroom were nice. Booked a private room with a shared bathroom for 19$/night. 4 stars only because the WiFi did not reach our room, we had to go outside of our room for the wifi, which was not a big deal but otherwise it would have been 5 stars.

2 of my friends and I were volunteering near Kampala and decided to stay in a private room with a sharing bathroom in Bushpig Backpackers Hotel. It was perfectly fine, no problems. We also did laundry, it was cheap (i think about 2 usd for the basket?) and done the same day. Communication between the hostel and us was going smoothly. One day there was no warm water, i informed the management and they immediately called someone to repair it :). Around the hostel, you can always get a boda boda... whenever i used a taxi, taxi always knew where is Bushpig (this is really important since taxis never knew any other place!!) and some of them told it is the most popular hostel. Rooms and bathrooms are tidy... no one was loud. We didn't have breakfast included so i can't tell much about it, but there is an option for it or you can get something from Acacia Mall or some of the other few restaurants around.

Loud often times due to the bar downstairs. If you have any stomach issues there isn't privacy for using the toilets. Has reliable hot water though that sometimes makes the walk to accaia worth it.

Nice bar β€” good food, coffee not really good. A chilled place to relax, with some music. Enough space for a group. I’m not sure you can work here, since WiFi signal often disappears. Beware there’s outside seating, so mosquitos might be disturbing in the evening.

Bushpig is a contemporary casual place, popular for travelers. It has ambient western music, high and low seats, good service, bad waiting time though cause at times it's full of people, very good quick meals like the burgers and fries. very nice salad definitely nice for vegeterians. A very convenient place for both budget accommodation and eat out. Easy access from the capital of Uganda, Kampala. The staff is helpful and very hospitable right from the gatemen to the receptionist band other attendants. The parking space is not so big but enough to accommodate 8 - 12 cars. The accept whichever currency you would like to use for payment as well as other means besides cash payments. To me, Bush Pig is one of the top 3 best facilities for standard budget accommodations and backpacking.

The bar area is great, it's clean and the staff are friendly. However, the Internet doesnt work at all anywhere, there was no hot water at any time that I tried so I couldn't shower , there were no plug sockets in my private room and the bed was too short to sleep properly and I'm not tall (I'm 5,10). I had to check out after one night. It's a shame though as it has a lot of potential.

Went to the restaurant and had pork ribs πŸ˜‹ for sharing, they are good - tender meat, sweet-savory meat, chips, and salad. Big servings πŸ”πŸŸπŸ₯© I didn't like the nachos and guacamole so order at your own risk ... nachos overcooked, and the guacamole is just mashed avocado and lime that's it! The restaurant is small and people staying at the hotel hang out there to the point of some people putting their foot on the table πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ Service was slow 🐌 not too bad tho πŸ˜„ you need to run after the service staff to get noticed and served but they are nice.

Your home away from home and a great introduction to Kampala. I stayed for just over a month and come back regularly for good vibes, cold beer, and good food. Staff are very friendly and competent, and very willing to help you with your many adjacent needs. Need a Boda driver? Need transport to Jinja? Need to know what prices are fair? Airport pickups and drop offs? Need anything else? Bushpig can advise you on all this and more. Thanks to the Bushpig team for welcoming me during my first weeks in Kampala.

I stayed for a long-term stay at Bushpig last year and it really was the best I could have done! The people there are incredibly nice, it was an amazing atmosphere, I felt safe and well taken care of. Especially the price for value was great, because I got a long-stay discount and breakfast was included. Another thing that I wanted to point out was that as a female solo-traveller, I really appreciated the female staff at the hostel being around for 24 hours. They were amazing and I felt really comfortable. Like other comments say, beware of the noise, but it is a hostel, so that's what I expected. Take some good earplugs with you and you will sleep perfectly fine. If I ever go back to Kampala, I will without a doubt go to stay with them again!

I had a great experience at Bushpig. It is a very central place and offers many activities. The staff is very friendly and dedicated. There are a lot of places to work if needed, but as it has a lot of events, it might not be guarantee to have a quiet space to make professional calls. I would definitely recommend for holidays!

Stayed at Bushpig for five nights and had a lovely time. The rooms are simple and mattresses firm, but comfortable. Some of the showers had scalding hot water, but after I figured out which ones seem to work best, it was fine. The variety of food at the restaurant was nice and there is lots of room even during busy evenings. Would definitely consider staying here again next time I'm in Kampala.

Nice comfortable place with friendly staff. People come in and turns into a hangout place at night at the restaurant. Has a friendly hostel pet, Porkchop who likes to sit comfortably on your lap. Nice complimentary breakfasts every morning and delicious brewed coffee! β˜•οΈ

The place is really neat and tidy with a natural surrounding touch to it... Awesome restaurant with nice staff and delicious food... Plus the different activities hosted at the restaurant like quiz nights and game nights... It's a place one can stay, stop by or be and have a great time.

Bushpig has been home for me for the past 2 months and a half and I fully recommend it! I travel alone and at BushΓg I felt safe and surrounded by nice, friendly, and welcoming people. All the staff, without exception, are amazing! from the entrance to the reception, including the cleaning staff and the ones from the restaurant, are always kind and helpful. I will surely miss this place, specially Porkshop - Bushpig's little cat - who is the best kitty ever!

Best Backpacker in town. Check out their BUBU Mondays :) Buy Uganda Build Uganda! Friendly staff. Good food. I would NOT recommend to book the single room!! As it is extremely small and tiny! Rather get yourself the double bed room! :)

Home away from home. This is my first time in Uganda but staying here feels I am still in Ghana visiting my family. From the reception to the kitchen, and the housekeepers; everyone is amazing hospitable. I will recommend here to anyone seeking for amazing services.

Clean, good activities, helpful and very friendly staff at the reception. Just be prepared if you are a light sleeper that there is a road nearby and some bars. It was not too disturbing though and we were the room closest to the road. Very cute hostel cat as well.

The best hostel I have ever stayed at. Great food, great service, and an atmosphere that makes it easy to hang out with other people or just chill on your computer. I was prepared for it to be loud based on another review, but it was actually reasonably quiet for being on a busy Kampala street. There is also a very friendly and cute cat that loves being pet. Only drawback is that hot water in shower was inconsistent. I would highly recommend staying here.

Stayed here for a week. Really enjoyed it. Firstly I love the location as it is in a posh area next to bunch of clubs and also the Acacia Mall. The hostel has a bar and a restaurant where you can meet locals and other travelers. The hostel throws plenty of events such as Quiz Night, board game night, Afro fitness classes, etc. It is work friendly as well although the Internet can be terrible here and there (this has been the case throughout my travel in Africa so just make sure you have a hotspot). The dorms can get very hot at night but overall I really like how spacious they are and also there are enough bathrooms here where you don't need to wait. The included breakfast was absolutely delicious. Staff is great- very friendly, understanding people although they could do a better job with communication. Even despite the few downsides, I highly recommend this place.

Great hostel to stay in Kampala. Clean, good service, close to the city center and with nice common areas. You can find a restaurant and a bar inside the hostel. There's a very good vibe with locals and other travellers hanging out.

Great place to stay. Dorms bright, clean and spacious. Bar and food good and reasonably priced. Central location, great for exploring Kampala and lots going on in the evening.

Nothing but praise for this hostel and especially their lovely staff. I stayed at Bushpig in December 2023 for 3 nights in total. Their staff is amazing, super friendly and helpful - they were so kind to help me organize my trips around UG (they have a lot of contacts). Rooms are clean, lovely breakfast (lots of options) that is included in the price, they organize some fun activities and a bar-restaurant, free WiFi, a cute cat, fast laundry service, etc. etc. really good price-quality wise. 100% recommended.

I joined their tuesday quiz night and loved each and every moment. I did order a barbecue chicken pizza, and it was one of the best I have eaten around Kampala The service team was great both approach and presentation

It was a really nice place to stay. I would really recommend it. The atmosphere is really great. 2 things that made choose for 3 stars and that are easy to improve are the fact that the bar already closed at 22.30 o'clock. There are always still a lot of people sitting in the bar and it is a real bummer that you can't pleasantly stay after that time in the bar. The second thing that's really bad is the WiFi. For a hostel with a lot of international travelers there should be a consistent and working Wi-Fi. During my stay here I needed to use mobile data the whole time.

😠 Nkrumah is in a quite sorry state . Decades have passed since they last rehabilitated its urinals . Stench enshrouds most of its corridors all day. It ain't a nice place itself, but at least its residents make it a good place to live in!!
