As a Japanese, I normally do not fancy going to Japanese restaurant outside Japan as my expectations could be rather high. But I was pleasantly surprised and in fact amazed with the quality of food Yamasen chef ( happened to be Japanese chef who was trained in Kyoto) and more so on the concept of using locally available materials to creat such authentic Japanese food. They also have their own farm where they grow veggies. Fishes are freshly frozen and imported! No wonder sashimi tasted so fresh. With excellent service and great atmosphere ( open air), this is the place for a special occasion. Highly recommendedโ€ฆ. Even if you go for a jag of beer and side menu! Enjoy!

Amazing! SUKรˆ! As Japanese will say it. Tried the sushi and the wasabi was hot compared to what I took last week . Serene environment, clean cozy a good place to bring kids and friend to hang out.

Their chicken tastes amazing, regardless of how it is prepared. I loved their rice and herbal tea too. Helpful staff especially with explaining the menu since it is written to suite it's Japanese set up. Great location, with several other businesses. The down side is there was no internet otherwise it is on my return to list

I was here today and the place is really beautiful. I thought it was just pretty at night but even during day it is amazing. The staff are super polite. And the food is brought in time. I had a dessert, it was amazing. Generally a nice place to go.

Great Japanese restaurant with nearby shops and marketplace. The atmosphere is very artsy, jive, and hip with a ton of umami! Loved the Match Frappacino, Pork Ramen, and Matcha Pannacotta. Would like to see perfectly fried Gyoza and Edamame added to the appetizers. But hey, itโ€™s Africa, we canโ€™t have our noddles and our broth too can we? Hahaha #WorthRepeatVisits #Yummy #EasyParking

Awesome Japanese food! Itโ€™s a Japanese authentic style and all of dishes are incredibly beautiful... You can taste many different varieties of Japanese food such as Sushi, Seafood salad, Curry rice, beef fillet with Sukiyaki sauce etc... All of them are superb!๐Ÿ˜‹ But my favorite was Japanese tea(Houjicha) pudding as a desertโ™ก And I cannot forget their customer service! All stuff were so polite and helpful!

Mmmmm. Ok. The restaurant is good. Architecture is brilliant. Some souvenir shops inside. But the food .... the prices are higher than average but the tastes are for 3.5 up to 5. Ramen is rich in fat, but not in the flavors. The variety of sake is incredible. They serve druft beer. But, but, but .... Just check the colour of the salmon in my photos...

It is very beautifully doneโ€ฆ.differentโ€ฆ.the staff do your best to make you feel welcome but the owner is very racist towards black customers. I asked for a soda as they donโ€™t serve ciders and sat at a different table with my colleagues as we waited for the other group we were working with to get done with eating as we intended to have our(those of us who sat at a separate table) meals packed. The owner asked a waiter to come and tell us that he isnโ€™t happy and that we should move elsewhere if we are only having a soda ๐Ÿ˜ก๐Ÿ˜ก๐Ÿ˜กso does not work for his aesthetic. Meanwhile there were tables of white people just drinking water. The owner chose to send a waiter who wasnโ€™t comfortable with relaying his message and didnโ€™t have the decency to come talk to us. I have zero tolerance for people who do not treat people of African descent with respect and treat us like we are cheap and dispensable. We work equally hard to spend our money in so called fancy restaurants.

I don't know any better place to spend your special day other than here. The refined and beatiful almost artistic dishes definetely make your day more special. I am not fun of taking pics of what i eat but the dessert they served was just too pretty and I could not stop. they decorated my name on their homemade cookie๐Ÿ’•Their hospitality is amazing too, I always feel the love the staffs have toward their customers, their dishes and their jobs. They love kids too๐Ÿ˜

They serve the most authentic (both traditional and Western-style) Japanese food in Kampala. My family loves trying different things at this restaurant, and everything has been good. I especially recommend curry Hamburg doria, and our kids think their matcha Frappuccino is the best dessert in town. The service is impeccable, and I really appreciate they provide a mosquito repellent.

It was a place to enjoy real Japanese food in East Africa. Although there seems to be a Japanese chef, it is the local Ugandans who actually cook and serve the food, and all the staff understand the different culture of Japanese food. The level of food and drinks was very high, and I thought it was wonderful that cultures so geographically distant from each other were so well integrated.

So grateful to have a place in Uganda where I can eat delicious Japanese food that reminds me of home! Yamasen uses fresh local ingredients to recreate many Japanese dishes such as ramen and tempura. It is also a wonderful place to enjoy beautiful architecture, excellent service, and calm atmosphere. I appreciate all the effort that is put into the presentation and taste of each dish. They also have a store, where you can buy thinly sliced pork and Japanese greens that cannot be found elsewhere. I usually don't eat out for Japanese food, but I always enjoy coming here!

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Yamasen Japanese Restaurant in Kampala, and I must say it was an extraordinary experience that left me completely satisfied. From the moment I stepped through the doors until the very last bite, Yamasen exceeded my expectations in every aspect. First and foremost, let's talk about the food. Yamasen offers an exceptional menu filled with a wide variety of authentic Japanese dishes. Whether you're a sushi lover, a ramen enthusiast, or enjoy indulging in mouthwatering tempura, Yamasen has it all. Each dish was beautifully presented, showcasing the culinary expertise of the chefs. The freshness of the ingredients was evident in every bite, and the flavors were simply outstanding. I highly recommend trying their signature rolls; they are a true work of art. Aside from the delectable food, the service at Yamasen is truly exceptional. The staff members are warm, friendly, and extremely attentive. From the moment I arrived, I felt welcomed and valued as a guest. The servers were knowledgeable about the menu, and they were more than happy to provide recommendations based on my preferences. Throughout the meal, they ensured that every need was met, and their attention to detail was remarkable. The seamless combination of efficiency and genuine hospitality truly made the dining experience memorable. The ambiance at Yamasen is another aspect worth mentioning. The restaurant is elegantly designed, incorporating traditional Japanese elements while maintaining a modern touch. The calming atmosphere created the perfect setting for a relaxing and enjoyable meal. Whether you're looking for an intimate dinner for two or a gathering with friends, Yamasen provides a comfortable and inviting environment. Furthermore, Yamasen's dedication to maintaining high standards of hygiene and cleanliness was evident. The restaurant adhered to all safety protocols, which further enhanced my confidence in dining there. In conclusion, Yamasen Japanese Restaurant in Kampala offers a remarkable dining experience that deserves nothing less than a five-star rating. The outstanding food, impeccable service, and inviting ambiance make it a standout destination for Japanese cuisine lovers. Whether you're a local or a visitor to Kampala, I highly recommend treating yourself to the delights that Yamasen has to offer. Prepare to be transported to the heart of Japan through their culinary expertise, and allow yourself to be pampered by their top-notch service.

I have been here a couple of times. But the last time we went (Aug 2021), it was not that great. The cold sushi was somehow not crisp and fresh. Then the hot sushi had too much yum yum sauce making it soggy. The food didn't have the delicate, subtle flavours reminiscent of Japanese food. At this price point, at supposedly one of the best Japanese Restaurants in town - I would expect better. Thankfully they serve cold Banange Beer.

My thirst for excellent Japanese food, was quenched last night at Yamasen Japanese Restaurant. And Fumiko Miyashita Yamaguchi was incredibly welcoming too. I canโ€™t speak highly enough of this place. The building is stunningly beautiful, and the atmosphere is perfect, gentle music, lots of space, perfect lighting. You feel calm here away from the usual hustle & bustle of Kampala. The food is excellent too. I think itโ€™s the best restaurant Iโ€™ve been to in Kampala. I went with my Girlfriend and it was very romantic! I also noticed they have beautiful private booths for larger groups. So Iโ€™ll be back again with my friends too! I highly recommend you give it a go!

It's a beautifully setup complex by the roadside, Muyenga Tankhill road, set where there was formally a mini football pitch The complex is surrounded by greening environment - grass, trees, and itself built with wood Fountains of irrigation water are planted concealed in the grass, so was surprised one evening while sitting I'm the green enn gardens, to see sprinkling water sprijg out of the earth, a pleasant surprise out can only see in evenings I'm always served well prepared signature meals here, twice I have come with friends, they loved it They have what I can call conc juice, but the straw that comes with it will be metallic, a testament to Japanese efficiency, to have a reusable drinking straw. I hope for the love of God they're triple sterilised before handing to the next You cannot fail tonlile the ambient environment, open air interior, African wood decor, a shop for antiques is within the premise. It was probably built with foreigners and travellers in mind, because everything here screams exotic The parking inside the premises and also outside on the prepared roadside parent, could take 100 cars to fill One ofntye nicest places in the muyenga neighborhood, and certainly Kampala

Kon katsu was superb but I can't say the same about the frozen takeout Ramen. I was supposed to be given an instruction sheet of how to cook it at home but when I reached home to check it wasn't there. Maybe that is because I did not tip the cashier. I have to ask for my change after waiting for 5 minutes and noting the cashier move to do something unrelated to my payment.

The food was just ok. Not a place I would go back to. The food was blunt and my order was forgotten so I had to wait while everyone else ate and made it togo. The starters and herbal tea were good though. But, you must really love Japanese food to go there and also, if you do not like plain unseasoned food, save your bucks and go to a restaurant with a menu you understand. We were a group 10 with everyone making different food choices, but we were not impressed. I guess that's how most Japanese food is anyway. I have tried many cuisines and Asian food is a favorite because of the flavors, but boy did this one not have anything. Unseasoned food just doesn't cut it for me.

The place has lots of culture to offer and the chefs are really good at what they do. You can tell with the way they introduce their meals on special occasions. On top of all, they organise Japanese cultural activities and events that are interesting to take a part of. I'd definitely give a 5 star and recommend them to anyone who wants to have a taste of Japan in Uganda

I am disappointed. With all the effort that went into the design and ambience of the restaurant the last thing to let it down should be the food!!. But alas today as I waited in anticipation for a ramen bowl to be served, the final product broke my heart. 'Pork Ramen' I should have known from the name of the dish on the menu that I would be disappointed; watery broth, kenyan spaghetti passed off as ramen noodles, over cooked pork slices and the final nail in my coffin, overly boiled eggs. What I hoped would be a satisfying ramen evening only brought to surface all the insecurities I have tried so hard to bury. The kitchen and restaurant staff should be ashamed to be calling themselves a Japanese restaurant when they can't even serve a half decent bowl of ramen. And to think such garbage cost 30k Ug shillings. I am aggrieved, I am frustrated, I am disappointed.
