It
was
sort
of
a
last
minute
decision
to
do
the
gorilla
trekking
and
while
most
of
the
agencies
replied
that
permits
are
sold
out
for
the
dates
we
wanted,
Jackie
managed
to
arrange
them
for
us.
Jackie
was
always
very
responsive
to
all
our
emails
and
requests,
and
followed
up
on
our
trip
daily
-
called
us
to
make
sure
that
everything
is
going
well
and
as
expected.
She
also
helped
me
to
get
reimbursement
from
Transferwise
(service
I
used
to
pay
for
the
tour
and
who
did
not
explicitly
state
all
the
fees
hence
Jackie
received
less
than
expected).
She
was
also
very
kind
and
was
fine
that
we
pay
the
difference
to
the
driver.
As
for
our
tour
guide
and
driver
Elias.
He
is
a
great
driver
and
tour
guide!
He
was
informative,
friendly,
and
funny.
He
really
made
an
effort
to
get
to
know
us
and
what
we
wanted
to
do,
and
encouraged
us
to
make
stops
for
the
photos
whenever
we
wanted.
Also
in
case
there
is
a
chance
of
a
rain
during
the
tour
-
then
he's
definitely
your
driver
-
he'll
make
sure
you
won't
get
stuck
on
the
muddy
roads
(on
our
way
he
even
helped
one
of
the
other
drivers
when
they
got
stuck
with
their
jeep).
Our
tour's
starting
point
was
from
Kabale
and
it
took
around
2.5
hours
to
reach
Buhoma
(with
great
rainforest
scenery
on
the
way).
Gorilla
trekking
Our
trekking
point
was
Buhoma
and
we
trekked
the
Katwe
gorillas
family
that
had
a
recent
newborn
(yey!).
In
total
the
trekking
was
around
4-5
hours,
but
not
in
a
very
fast
pace.
After
having
reached
gorillas
family
we
were
allowed
to
spend
with
them
1
hour.
Definitely
pay
extra
$$
for
a
porter.
It
is
worth
the
money
and
helps
the
local
students
not
only
financially,
but
also
gives
them
opportunity
to
see
gorillas,
too.
They
hold
your
backpack
and
help
you
when
you
need
help.
Buhoma
community
walk
We
did
the
walk
the
day
before
the
gorilla
trekking
to
stretch
our
legs
:)
It
was
around
2-3
hours,
but
not
very
tiring.
It's
nice
to
have
some
smaller
bills
to
buy
some
souvenirs
on
the
way
(there
will
be
plenty
of
opportunities).
We
had
an
interesting
walk
visiting
the
local
coffee
maker
(who
shows
how
coffee
is
brewed),
Batwa
community
with
a
small
performance
on
their
traditions,
local
Banana
brewery
that
produces
beer
and
gin
(with
tasting),
and
the
final
was
visit
to
women's
center
who
are
making
various
crafts
from
colorful
fabrics
(another
great
opportunity
for
souvenirs).
Overnight
stay
We
stayed
at
the
Buhoma
community
rest
camp
-
run
by
local
community.
We
stayed
in
a
cabin
with
a
stunning
view
of
the
rainforest,
also
the
dining
area
had
the
same
view.
During
the
night
though
it
can
get
a
bit
chilly,
so
it
was
a
very
considerate
touch
to
find
a
rubber
hot
water
bottle
in
bed
before
going
to
sleep
:)
