Found this place on Google and visited it as they have pretty good reviews. They are a Catalan tapas bar. They have varieties of tapas and mains on there menu and their menu really resemble those that i had during my time living in Barcelona so i had a high expectations on this place. The food has def below my expectation. The taste is off and it feels like the chefs have put too much or too little of something. The presentation looks great though. The ambience is also quite nice for a night out for drinks. I prob will give this place another try because there isn't so many Catalan food here in Malaysia. But overall experience is disappointing.

A gin bar in the middle of Mont Kiara. Happy hour prices were decent (RM 76 for 3 double shots). The Spanish food were suprisingly decent - paella and tapas worthy of authentic Spanish quality. The seatings were not the most comfortable with little to no noise reduction.

Pretty nice place for a drink and some food .. went there with my boss for dinner and some wine recently and was happy to be introduced here. The food was fabulous, servers were attentive and knowledgeable about their food. I loved their iberico ribs and pork belly as well as their squid ink paella. Service was fast too. Will return again.

Authentic Spanish tapas with an element of affordability. The Patatas Bravas takes a different twist while the Chorizo Al Vino had a real strong red wine and pork flavour. I've had better Gambas though whereby searing hot olive oil is served rather than the one below although it did taste good. My only disappointment was their pork burger as the mixture of sauces created a weird smell. Attentive and friendly staff as well with a good selection of gin (go during happy hour!). Updated Review. 2nd Visit: One word is consistency. The dishes taste the same and look the same. However, alot of dishes are missing from the menu and sizing has become slightly smaller. Nevertheless, taste that northern Spanish authenticity. The Sangria is highly recommended but the fruits need to be there it smaller rather than throwing large chunks in. Prok sliders are just nice and I would order them again. Hopefully the menu gets a revamp with new dishes and bringing some of the older ones back such as the lobster.

I found the food delicious although I've not had much experience with Spanish food. The experience was elevated by the friendly and proactive waiters. I say proactive because they were constantly looking to care for our needs and changing the plates when they noticed it was filled with clam shells. Good job!

The gastro bar has got indoor and outdoor sittings, located right beside the main entrance of the 1MK mall. The food menu consists of tapas to western mains, good for groups or couples to chill and dine or even drink during dinner hours. Their food was not bad, especially the Paella ( a choice of different protein in the menu). We did order Gin by glasses, very affordable and friendly price. Overall, pretty decent!

Food: The food is a disappointment. The prawn tapas tasted so ordinary that I think I could have cooked it myself at home. The paella is not authentic at all. The wine itself is not good as well. Environment: We sat outside and was biten by mosquitoes now and then. There aren't any music played as well. The interior design of the restaurant is so ordinary that I don't think it is compatible with the price you're paying. It is overall disappointing and I'd not consider to pay another visit.

Recently dined at Mercat Barcelona Gastrobar and had a fantastic experience. The food was truly impressive—flavorful and expertly prepared, showcasing the culinary prowess of the kitchen. The ambience added to the enjoyment, with a cozy and inviting atmosphere that complemented the dining experience. While the food and ambience were highlights, it's essential to mention that the prices are somewhat higher, leaning towards the pricier side. However, considering the quality of the dishes and the overall experience, it could be viewed as a worthwhile investment for those seeking a memorable dining outing. The menu boasted a diverse range of options, from tapas to main courses, providing something for every palate. The service was attentive, contributing to the overall positive impression. In summary, Mercat Barcelona Gastrobar is a great choice for those willing to splurge a bit for a high-quality dining experience. The combination of excellent food and a pleasant ambience makes it a suitable spot for special occasions or when you're in the mood for an elevated culinary adventure.

Great place for Spanish cuisine serving quality and delicious food. However, bit warm due to air condition not cold enough.

nice place for family/friend get together. please order the ribs and if you have extra budget, go for the octopus leg. as for the paella, i think is pretty okay but i like my paella to be a little dry/burn at the bottom and still moist on the top. to me, it give that texture/dimension vs having all moist…again this is my personal preference. still is a good paella.

It’s proven time and time again that Mercat has consistently delivered quality food. Portions of tapas are big enough for a family of 4-5. Celebrated my birthday and the staffs were exceptional in their service with a smile. Muchos Gracias

Overall experience is good. Tapas selection is good, especially the Iberico Ham wrapped with Truffle Cream was really impressed. I personally don't really like the cream soup, but it is something new to try for us.

A fantastic representative of Catalonian cuisine, 10,000km away from its home. Firstly, the service: sharp, on-point, and thorough. Everyone carried a positive energy and it did not go unnoticed. A round of applause for the floor staff! Secondly, the food: we ordered a mix of Iberico cold cuts, croqueta casera de pollo, patatas bravas, setas al ajillo, and tomaquet, all paired with a few in-house reds. Each bite tasted better than the last - perfectly timed by the kitchen to arrive at our table at the same time (another tip of the hat). I literally cannot wait to go back. On the inside wall, there is a plaque from ICEX Spain literally certifying this establishment as an conduit of its culture and food - difficult to be more legitimate than that! It's been 5 years since I was last walking down La Rambla in Barcelona, soaking in the sights, sounds, and tastes of La Boqueria. Tonight, I was teleported back.

The food was OK but choice of wine is limited. We were being charged corkage because selected the wine from the wine bar which is connected to the restaurant and waiter did not inform us about the corkage when we order. Wish their Sangria could be more authentic.

It was a Friday evening when we decided to have Spanish for dinner, managed to get a table on last minute basis. The food overall is good, the ham, the prawns, the paella are very decent. They have a wide selection of gin in a cart, so gin lovers do look out for it. Waiter is very helpful in recommending and accommodating. Would definitely come back!

After 2 years of lock down, tonight went to Mercat. Totally loves the Spanish tapas, platter of jamon & creamy cheeses, delicious special baby lamb air flown from Spain... Well roasted and awesome nice flavour without the strong lamb smell, black squid ink rice with seafood. Lastly Ended with Spanish homemade desserts.. Curos with dark chocolate, special bread soak in tiger nut sauce and soufflé flavour crema catalan.... Soft, light and aroma like eating cotton candy . Best of all, 35 types of gins to taste.... Gin haven. Definitely worth more trips for Spanish food lovers.

Seafood Paella was good - not too salty and the amount of seafood is just right for 2 person(they have an option for 2pax or 4pax) given if you're having other dishes as well. The joint is more suited for beer-goers hence if you're coming in for lunch, it tends to get a bit warm if you're seated indoor.

Ordered the following 1. Patatas Bravas (11/10) - The flavours just burst in your mouth, such a simple yet strong tapas 2. Bombas from Barceloneta (9/10) - The outer is so crispy, and the pork was so soft and tender. Not to mention the pork taste is also very pronounced here. 3. Calamarcitos (9/10) - For someone who doesn’t like to eat tomato raw, this tapas really made the tomato shine. The baby squid was cooked well. 4. Abanico Iberico (11/10) - The iberico pork will just melt in your mouth, best with the apple compote. The star of the show 5. Spanish Churros Plain (9/10) - The churros were not too oily, and it’s so crispy and soft! Surprisingly it was light towards the tummy too. Had their seasonal prawn dish and the prawns were so fresh. Cocktails packed punches as well. The staff members and chef here were so approachable and kind in explaining and serving the customers. The environment gave off a lil retro vibes to me, and I like that night a lot.

Another Spanish Favourite of Mine Apart from Marta's Kitchen, another Spanish restaurant in KL that deserves special mention is Mercat Barcelona. They have 2 outlets - Bangsar (which is unfortunately closed down) and Mont Kiara. My virgin visit was to their Bangsar outlet so it was a bummer. Their Mont Kiara outlet on the other hand, is spacious and can accommodate bigger group. The staffs were trained to be courteous and hospitable , and to greet everyone ina very friendly manner.. making one to feel at home. ◾Paella de Pollo, Chorizo Y Setas contains chicken, chorizo and mushroom. The bright yellow/orange colour of the Spanish rice served in the metal pan excites me.. and it was truly delicious that even the kids who initially didn't want to eat the rice, ended up competing till the last spoon. ◾Mix de Iberico Y Quesos - jamon iberico/serrano, salchichon, chorizo, fuet, manchego, goat, mahon, blue cheese. Asked them to omit the stronger cheese ie. goat & blue cheese and they duly obliged by giving us more of manchego instead. ◾ Mercat's Pork Burger - their version of homemade pork burger, lettuce, tomato, roast pepper, roast onion, cheese & guindilla pepper. Thumbs up from the hungry sob. ◾Mercat Pork Sliders - 3 mini burgers with cheese, red pepper, roast onion and brioche buns. Everything mini always got the attention from the young ones. ◾Tortilla de Patatas - Spanish omelette with potato & onion, served with 3 fresh tomato spread on the side. Another classic Spanish tapas done right! ◾Flamenquin Iberico - iberico abanico with iberico ham & cheese, breaded & fried! Initially skeptical of the dish - come in! Abanico deep fried? It was quashed as soon as the dish was served. In fact, it was the dish of the evening for me. It's almost a sin not to bring a bottle of red wine to pair with the awesome neal, hence the Bordeaux blend from US.

Food : 3/5 Service : 1/5 Food is decent but service is horrible. Especially for mont kiara where you think you’ll be given the best service. But no, you’ll be greeted and treated as if you owed them money to begin with. When asking about the menu and what to order, the waiter was unhelpful and did not provide any information about the dishes, simply pushing us to order the most expensive items on the menu. But let’s start with some positive parts of this review. The ham platter ( any platter is recommended ) was delightful, just skip the cheeses and the tomato bread , they add no value just cost. Next the appetisers, which were honestly the standout of the meal, get the patatas, they were smooth, had tons of potato flavour and were just truly enjoyable to eat. The octopus leg was tender however the mash potatoes at the bottom needs so much more work but overall a decent dish. Here comes the bad food part then, the main dish of the night, the seafood paella , was so so disappointing. There was no crispiness at the bottom, and tasted like an over salted risotto. Seafood was fresh but that’s all. Next their chicken dish, which I already forgot the name, looks and taste exactly like how it looks, a hot slime of unappetising tv store bought dinner. Will not recommend. Lastly we had churros for dessert. They weren’t bad but the sauce was dreadful , Milo drink would have tasted better than the chocolate sauce that was served. When we complained to the waiter, he simply said that our sauces are watery. We did end up getting the sauce changed but the waiter / manager did not even apologise and walked away immediately. Not to mention everything cost more than 500+. Truly an underwhelming experience from my part. Would come again if I get the cravings but not something I suggest that you put on your must eat places.
