My single adivce, not worth travelling 100+ km from Bangalore just to see nothing .We can see the falls videos online also. I am writing this review after visiting the place in the month of August 2022. It's raining heavily at this time in Karnataka so the water level is high and thus the waterfall is also vigorous. They have closed the gate to enter falls too. We can see in other photos, people entering water and falls area too. May be it's no more allowed now or may be it's in summer when water level is low. 20 for bike parking 50 to cross and come back from river 60 for bus ride and come back. All went in vain. Also if you still want to go there , please carry cash only . No network so no online payment. Best of luck

MEKEDATU meaning Goat Jumps . Water flow is within the distance which can be jumped by a goat hence MEKEDATU. You can arrive here by 02 or 04 wheelers .Food choice here is very limited. Mayura restaurant which serves veg and non veg, too crowded on weekends, Small Food vendors cook and serve fish. Theppa (coracle) boats to cross the river which is around 50 ft depth according to locals, if you are lucky you will be given life jackets or else GOOD LUCK and Bus transport to reach the view point around 04 kms, which is adventurous on mud road . Water flow was much and we're not allowed to go further. Round tickets to be purchased for Theppa and Bus ride Weekend getaway with family and kids, especially during the summer. Good for a days outing. Around 80 kms from Bangalore

Very good place to visit with family and friends during weekends. Being March, summer season water level is low in the river. Some worst people those visiting here, throwing drinks bottles in the river, breaking bottles in river, throwing clothes in river, throwing plastic bottles and other waste in river, water gets polluted. Suggest public people to maintain cleanliness while entering into river water. Please do not try to swim in the river, as it's very dangerous because there are whirlpools inside water and small crocodiles inside water and their is depth in water. Need to cross the river to go for mekedatu. Per head they charge Rs. 60 to go for mekedatu. Until the vehicle get filled they won't leave to mekedatu. In return while coming can come in any vehicle. No need to pay again. There are monkeys in sangama and mekedatu. Please be careful and don't leave kids alone in mekedatu. Don't try to take selfies at the edge of rocks in mekedatu. Very dangerous. Please maintain safe distance on top of rocks in mekedatu. It would be nice to visit in September to December for sangama. It's too hot during summer. Water is very pure and crystal clear. If cleanliness is maintained in river it would be more beautiful. Be safe and cautious, because monkeys 🐒 will come and grab your bags containing your belongings.

Parking ticket to be taken from the checkpost which costs 30 rupees for car, enough parking space available. Paid buses will take you to the falls, Since it was off season we went to other side by crossing the river, boarded the bus which costs 60 rupees per person. Water is less now, plan to visit during monsoon.

I am stating this from my time of the visit, hopefully, they should have got mended by now. Day Trip. A restaurant is present on location. Clothing: Comfortable clothes and sneakers preferably as there’s a small boat ride. River: Cauvery

It’s a nice place to visit for a weekend getaway. A bus is available at Sangama which will take you back and forth. Roads are nice and place is surprisingly clean. I wouldn’t mind riding here again. I had visited this place a decade ago. I’m happy it’s still not ruined by visitors.

If you want a weekend plan away from bangalore, this is a good option. This is not a wow place... it's a pleasant place with some good views for photos and a good experience travelling across the water. Spend some 2-3 hours travelling and enjoy good time with friends. You can find a lot of shops, selling fish - do try them. I would personally avoid the state run canteen as the service is pathetic.. and not so great food.

Beautiful place, rock formations due to the river flow is amazing. Beautiful to look at. Lots of whirlpools in the water. Safety advise is to not get into the water. Water looks deceptively inviting.

Scenic view of the gorge, nothing else special here. Do not have high expectations :) Short trek. Might be interesting if you try off road biking. People usually go by the bus that takes people regularly to the gorge. The bus ride is super bumpy, and there's a good chance you might spot and elephant or two. Do not take old people. They won't be able to climb the rocks or go down the stairs from the top. 50 per head for the boat. 60 per head for the bus. Both charges include up and down.

Visiting the beautiful place with amazing views requires a journey. To reach here, you'll have to cross the Sangama, take a bus from there and then climb up/down a hundred steps of trekking (not advisable for senior citizen) . The bus route is bumpy but it's worth it. Also, this place doesn't have any food available, so if you want to eat something here, make sure to bring some snacks and water with you. Additionally, be mindful of the monkeys around.

It's quite a nice place to enjoy the nature if you are planning to have a day out from Bengaluru.. First a short ride in a raft (teppa boat) to the other side (50 Rs per person, up & down) and a 4kms bus ride (100 rupees per person, up & down) to the view point..

An amazing place to be with nature, to be with self! A two hour long drive and you reach there! Of course the roads are under construction, so drive carefully, but once you reach there, you will be in trance. A few points: No network works here except BSNL Keep a lots of change Wear well gripped shoes Start early and reach well in time to enjoy fully Keep extra pair of cloth as you will surely jump into the waters Click as many photos It will be surely a day well spent

You will get a new experience in your life. The whole journey is awesome. We visited the place on a rainy season. You need to travel from Sangam to other side through a small boat. Then through a private bus you will travel along a jungle. The view is mesmerizing across the rocky road. Then once you reach the view is mesmerizing, awesome and equally dangerous. There are view points developed to see the waterfall. But be careful as it is highly dangerous.

Kaveri river flowing through the rocks. You can climb on the rocks and enjoy the river flowing through them. One of the unique beauties of nature. The only way to reach there is to park your vehicle in the parking area of Sangam and then cross sangam (in knee deep water) and then take the public bus (rs. 60 per person for to and fro)

Amazing wonder of nature! And a must visit if you plan to visit Sangam. Out of the world rock formations created by fast flowing river. Do not venture too far into the ledge though as it can be slippery. Also humble request to not litter 🙏🏾 and ensure all plastic waste etc that you create is carried back and properly disposed.

A beautiful gorge with rocks on either side and Kaveri flowing through the middle. You have to go to Sangama and cross the river to get to the bus that'll take you to Mekedatu for Rs.60. You can spend 30-60 mins here. This place is great for photography lovers and rock climbers. Very dangerous for kids, senior citizens, and those who cannot climb rocks. Wear dependable shoes if you intend to climb up the gorge. Carry lots of water to drink.

Best place to visit nearby Bangalore. It will take around 2hrs to reach the place (most preferred route is Mysore road). The gorge viewpoint is close now. Best time to visit is during monsoon season or post monsoon season. You can go till sangama where Arkavathi river meets the Kaveri. From there we went through the basket boat to the other end. Bus service will be there to reach till mekedatu falls and fare is rs 60. The best part of the trip is nature view and boat ride.

The viewpoint was good however lots of monkeys. I didn't go down as the view from the viewpoint was good enough and there was not too much water flow as well

Mekedatu is a place that offers a breathtaking view, but it requires a bit of trekking to reach. The landscape is dominated by rocky terrain, which adds to its natural charm. The beautiful scenery you encounter along the way and at the destination makes the effort well worth it. Whether you're an avid trekker or just someone looking for a unique outdoor experience, Mekedatu is a great place to explore and enjoy the beauty of nature.

Mekedaatu is in ramanagara district. It is also called as Goat- Crossing. This place got name as mekedatu because once a hunter was hunting goat, where it ran for its life. While running it come across a huge rock but to save its life it jumped from one edge of the rock to other edge. In between the rocks kaveri river was flowing but still the goat dared to do this to save its life.. Sangama and mekedatu are 2 different spots. First you will reach sangama then you have to cross the river to reach mekedatu. Note you have only one route to reach mekedatu i.e via boats and no private vehicles are allowed. Sangama is a place where river arkavathi and kaveri meets and flows. To be honest you won't be able to view more water flow during oct-mar. So visit if there is rain and water flow is more. How to reach mekedatu: *Bangalore - Kanakapura - chunchi cross - Sangama - Mekedatu falls * If you are travelling by own vehicle it's well and good. The road is good and can easily reach within 2 hours from Banashankari(bangalore). * If you travelling by bus then travel till kanakapura, which costs around 60rs from there have to catch a bus which travels to Sangama(please note buses are not frequent there is timings for that). From sangama last bus is available at 5.30 but don't wait till then catch the bus which leaves at 4pm. Once reaching Sangama if water flow is more you have to cross river only by boat service(when we travelled water flow was less so there was no boat charges). But have heart for boat they would charge ₹50 per person(to and fro). Once crossing the river local buses facility is available to reach mekedatu. To and fro they charge ₹60 per person. There are big rocks in mekedatu and are so slippery, no one is responsible for your life except yourself so please be careful. For private 2 wheeler parking they charge ₹10 and for 4 wheeler ₹30. There is a place called Dodda alahalli from there it's completely forest area. So there is checkpost to enter. I loved mekedatu than sangama. Sangama was quite disappointing because the water level was low. We visited the place in the month of dec so obviously due to less rain water level was low. In mekedatu of river flow is more then no rocks will be visible. If it's less then mesmerising rocks view is visible. Once again reminding you guys don't play with your life. Enjoy the nature and come back. It's no place to play.

Nature undisturbed. We will have to reach sangama first and take a van from there to reach Mekedatu. The name is because once a tiger 🐅 was trying to hunt a 🐐 goat and the brave goat jumped the river successfully escaping the tiger. Goat in kannada is Meke and crossing is called datu. Plan early morning or evening for animal site. You can find deers, elephant, forest pigs, cheetah, black cheetah and tiger.

It is amazing what water can do to the rock over many decades and centuries. Note that it is tricky to get t this place. Old people may not find that downward climb safe. Hyper active kids also need to be careful.

Very much nice view. Busses are there to take us from Sangama view to this place. They charge ₹60 for up and down. Must visit place if you came till Sangama. Big rocks and river water flows through those rocks. Kids also enjoy this place. A small trek to be done which was fun.

One of the finest gorge view places in Karnataka. Very little safety precautions taken though. Great views and a must see place, but there is hardly any safety. Usually crowded over weekends or public holidays.

  • 5/5 Rohan C. 1 year ago on Google
The viewpoint is breathtaking. The steps going down from the viewpoint are steep and slippery. Even with caution signs, tourists do dangerous photography. A security personal is always present there for safety reasons. Also, tourists have created a mess throwing garbage in the river.

Giving 3 star because it's closed on weekends due to covid / govt rule. Everywhere all spots are closed on weekends. Although, if you have booked JLR property, you can pass through checkpost. Hope to visit soon

Common problem with Govt is to avoid publics to enjoy the nature fearing the accidents and then local officials to allow them for some benefit with risk on our side. What is the problem in charging and giving good manageable system to have win win situation for all?

👍 The place is beautiful. It's surrounded by rocks up further, where the flow of water is moderately fast. There was enough water during October to take a dip and relax.
