Sera Ella is a waterfall which is about 10km away from riverston. Must visit place which has a beautiful waterfall. There is a small area behind the waterfall which you can go and take beautiful photographs. Not recommended to swim.

Sera Ella (Sinhala:සේර ඇල්ල) waterfall. It is formed by the waters of Kitul Canal which runs down Kaudagammana peak and the Hunumadala River, which flows from the mountains of Gonamada and Deyuthu Gammmaduwa, combining to form the Puwakpitiya River, a waterway which joins Thelgamu Oya to create the waterfall at its point of joining The Sera Ella waterfall is separated into two sections as it falls down the rockface, both falling down a height of 10 m (33 ft) and are visible from the Dumbara Jungle. The fall flows all year around and is at its fullest during the monsoon season, between November and March. One of the interesting features of this fall is the cave behind the fall. Steps has been cut to reach this cave and can be safely reached even when the fall is at full flow If your visiting please visit in monsoon season

If you are coming from Matale, to reach the Sera Ella Waterfall, you have to continue pass Riverston and drive for about 45 minutes. The road is in good condition except for the last 8km or so. Construction of this part is ongoing when I visited. There is a parking spot and from there you need to walk to the foot of the waterfall for about 5 min. There is a small rock cave that you can access to view the waterfall from the behind.

Must visit water fall once in your life time. This is stunning and really amazing sight. You can go behind the Fall. You will see a nice view from there. But never go for swim even you are a pro or amature. Because you will see some high alert sign boards up there. You can have a beautiful photoshot and can collect some nice pictures. I saw some couples do their pre-shoot videos and photos. There is a parking up there so you dont have to worry about your vehicle. It is for free. The road is narrow And under the maintaince. So you'll face some problems to reach there. There are 8Km from Pitawala pathana and you can find the way to Sera Ella because the local's help and sign boards are there to lead you. If you come there early in the morning around 7 or 8, you can directly go to Riverston, Pitawala pathana and Manigala hike. All you need to do is come early and save time. Or you are under a rush and pressure.

This waterfall is really eye-catching waterfall. Its speciality is that the waterfall has width rather than height. We visited it in rainy day and waterfall is completely active. You need to buy tickets before entering the waterfall. The road is still under development (On 2023-12-10) . But motorcycles and vehicles which have good ground clearance can easily reach the place. This area doesn't have a good mobile signal ether. So make sure to download Google maps and make it offline before visiting this area.

Currently (feb. 2024) the direct access road to this waterfall is under construction and closed. Therefore you have to use alternative road which is really difficult to go. Only bikes and 4x4 vehicles are recommended. Anyway the waterfall is amazingly scenic. Bathing is possible.

Experience , and Advice🚫 guide line (important) One of the beautiful water fall at forrest and hidden knuckles. (Not important — Route > if you are from kandy route or Kurnegala route that is join in matala After matala Town to sera ella 44km ) If you are coming matala Then you can visit 4places in one route (යනකොට කෑම බීම ඔක්කොම අරන් යන්න) 1st bambarakiri ella after that Riverstone and pitawala pathana grass land (super place. super View point available at pitawala pathana ) after that You have to go 11km to sera ella But that 11km road is very bad condition 😕 (11km yanda welawa peyakatath wediya yanawa) Totally forrest area. Can't go three wheelers or any other normal vehicle ( I mean very difficult to go) (Yanawnm hondhama wahanayakin yanna nethnm කට්ට kanda wei) When you reach Parking area available for free. (long vehicle 6-8 can park) After that you have to go down (water fall) 150 feet from Parking area. Good stairs and handle bars available. The unique thing about this waterfall. You can go inside the waterfall. I mean you can go behind the waterfall into a small cave (that is not risky, easily can go everyone) I didn't recommend to Bath. I think That is very danger. If you want to bath , very care fully do it. Don't go (waters) falling side. Dangerous cave and Barang stones here So that's it Think and go and get fun 😁

The most beautiful waterfall I've ever seen. In the rainy season the entire rock is covered with water flow. Literally the view is breathtaking. The access road is damaged and now it is under construction (4-2-2024) Better to take a bicycle or a cab.

It's a lovely waterfall. You can go under the waterfall and touch it through the cave, and there is a platform built in front of the waterfall for viewing. The pool is deep, and swimming or dipping in it is incredibly dangerous. The road is in poor condition, and the road is narrow, but experienced drivers can navigate it. You'll need enough fuel; there's no gas station nearby, but you can get a few liters from the local shops.

The road is not very smooth to the waterfall. But can be go there by a vehicle like even a wagon R. But worth to have a visit. Not recommended to have a bath just in front of the waterfall. But there are few natural pools down the river.

Near Riverstone, Matale. The road to this place is not well maintained & under construction, despite this the waterfall is sorrounded with natural scenary, a walk few steps down to the waterfall with some caves is amazing. But beware to stay safe during bath !!!

Recommend to visit the rainy season - because you can see a fully active waterfall. Magnificent thing is can reach behind the waterfall. There is amazing huge cave when you step sdowen to the waterfall.

The destination stands out as an exceptionally impressive place to explore. Regrettably, my visit coincided with a period of rainfall, amplifying the danger associated with this locale. As the rain poured, the once-impressive site transformed into a hazardous zone, marked by a sudden surge in water levels. The inherent beauty of the place became obscured beneath the overwhelming influx of water. During the rainy escapade, the danger posed by the escalating water levels overshadowed the initial allure of the location. What was intended to be a visit to a remarkable destination turned into an encounter with the unpredictability of nature. The substantial increase in water not only altered the landscape but also diminished the aesthetic appeal that initially drew visitors to the site. In essence, the impressive nature of the place became a double-edged sword, captivating in fair weather but posing risks and losing its charm when confronted with the challenges brought about by heavy rainfall. The juxtaposition of its allure and the peril it presents during inclement weather adds a layer of complexity to the overall experience of this intriguing yet potentially hazardous destination

The best ❤️ So beautiful, so elegant, just looking like a WOW😍 It’s a bit hard to reach the place due to road conditions. But worth the effort. Do not try jumping to the bay. Just have a bath over the rocks. In rainy days around 5.30pm the road gets darker and full of mist. So try to drive your vehicle out to matale asap👍

Very beautiful waterfall in the rainy season. You can go inside of the waterfall easily. Distance is around 550m from the ticket counter. Bathing is not recommended at the main basin. - Catch me WILD GALLERY on the YouTube -

Packed with stunning sceneries ! Access road to the sera ella is starting from Matale-illukkumbura-pallegama and its around 10km to the waterfall. Road is quite good but got few ( 3 or 4 ) places where road gets quite tricky for a low ground clearance vehicle. But shape eke drivable! Those 10km takes around 1h - 1.5h to complete. Scenic road where you might be able to experience the transition from a wet zone to a dry zone within few kms. Quite risky to travel in late evening because of the elephants. Got few proper parking for about 5 - 8 vehicles. Waterfall is placed by the road but you have to walk down on a steep path to get closer. Sera ella is an one of the eye catching and scenic waterfalls in sri lanka. Water level depends on monsoons. In some months it gets very dry. People dont recommend having a bathe down the waterfall but upper the fall there are plenty of safe places to have a bath and chill.

One of the best waterfalls to visit in Sri Lanka. It's in the Knuckles Mountain Range, where easily reached by a vehicle. You can go inside the waterfall carefully. Water level of the waterfall varies suddenly with the rain to the area. Reaching very closer to the waterfall is not that safe. Better to see the beauty of this lovely queen from a distance.

Sera Ella Waterfall is situated in Dumbara jungle near Laggala town of the Matale district. It stands at a height of 10 meters. Its name is derived from the species of fish “Sera” that inhabits the water. Some say that the name is derived from the beauty of this waterfall which is similar to the leaves of a Sera tree (Lemongrass) hanging down. The fall is at its fullest during the monsoon season from November to March. Sera Ell Waterfall is formed by the waters of Kitul Canal which runs down Kaudagammana peak and the Hunumadala River. It is separated into two sections as it falls down the face of the rock and is visible from the Dumbara jungle. There is a cave behind the Sera Ella Waterfall. Stunnig waterfall. You have go down 200ft from the parking lot to the waterfall. Stairs and handrail available. Road from ilukkumbura-riverstone rd to sera ella is in very bad condition Construction work is ongoing. It took us an hour to reach sera ella (10km) by car You can go to cave inside the water fall and enjoy the beauty from that side as well. Water from the waterfall falls in to a Very deep and dangerous pond. Because of the sharp slop of the rock in the bank of the pond its very hard to climb off if someone falls into pond who doesnt know how to swim or float. So be extra carefull and dont go near the pool for any reason. No lifeguards at service and few deaths happens here.

One of the best waterfalls in Srilanka. The road to the waterfall is not in good condition. The best part is you can go behind the waterfall & feel the water splash.

One of the beautiful waterfall among the others in the Matale region. The main road is under construction... Good place for picnic and its surrounded by a few old trees, which make the falls unique and beautiful.

Earlier Sera Ella was not on the correct location on Google map, I reported it 6 times and located in the correct location on 2023-05-20. Feel free to navigate and go. It's worth going to such a beautiful place. Food and drinks available to buy near the waterfall.

Secluded from the busyness of the town. It's a hidden gem. Many people don't visit this place. The road which leads to the waterfall is very narrow and poorly constructed. This place is worth visiting.

The unique thing about this waterfall is that you can go behind the waterfall in to a small cave. Road to get here is of poor quality and under construction. Better come here in a vehicle with good ground clearance. There are stairs to get to the waterfall from the main road.

👍👍 Nice location. When you are traveling to visit Sera Ella Waterfall you are have to pass this. It flows through a rural village. You can have a safe bath here. And there's available space for preparing food also. But be sure to bring back what you are carrying.
