It’s a great view point, but you need to be up before 9 to catch the view before the infamous fog comes in and blocks the valley view. There are toilets and a shop at the top and the entrance fee is 500 rupees. Lots of photo opportunities and magnificent views. There are many poor tea pickers working here so please bear in mind they work for extremely low wages (1000 rupees for 20 kilos) so do not harass them and please compensate when photographing with them.

Great panoramic view from the top. Most of the time view was covered with mist.It will take 1 hour drive from haputale town. Never regret it was a such a beautiful place. Roads were very narrow. If you are confident on your driving it’s matter of enjoying. On top you get small shop you can have poll rotti, Samosa etc with tea or coffee. Food was taste good and with reasonable price . Over all it’s great memorable journey specially with family bunch

Lipton’s Seat is one of the most talked-about things to do in Srilanka. But to be honest, I was a little skeptical of how amazed I would be! I mean, there are so many different viewpoints in the cultural center of Sri Lanka such as Adam’s Peak, Ella Rock, and the famous World’s End. All these offer stunning views (and most of them of the surrounding tea plantations.) Before seeing Lipton’s Seat for myself I was a little confused about not only the viewpoint but also the visit to the Dambatenne Tea Factory afterward. Lipton’s Seat is easy to add to your Sri Lanka itinerary. There are two main towns you can visit Lipton’s Seat from and they are Haputale and Ella. The best time to visit Lipton’s Seat is by far in the morning. The viewpoint is so beautiful at sunrise and I highly recommend getting up early to see it! I promise you won’t regret it. That being said, you can visit Lipton’s Seat at any time of the day. There is one catch though! During the months of April to October, the area around Lipton’s Seat is subject to midday fog that completely ruins your view. This fog can also occur in other months and in the morning, however, it is much less likely. I visited Lipton’s Seat for sunrise in May and was lucky enough to get a clear day. That being said, during this time of year there will almost always be a small amount of fog. If you want to see the tea pickers then don’t visit on a Sunday as very few (if any) work that day. I visited on a Sunday and only saw a few tea workers most of whom were doing other duties. Also, there is no tea production in the tea factory on Monday. For the entrance, It costs 100 rupees per person to visit Lipton’s Seat. If you are driving your own car or tuk-tuk (like us) it costs another 50 rupees to take the vehicle. At the viewpoint, there is a small restaurant where you can purchase tea/coffee and other local Sri Lankan foods. The restaurant is not expensive and for 650 rupees ($4 USD) Bailey and I got a pot of tea, two roti, and two vegetable samosas. There is a toilet at the restaurant and I am not certain but I would say the friendly staff at the restaurant would let you use it without a purchase. They were very friendly guys!

Beautiful view point. Most of the time the view was covered with the mist. Road is very narrow. In weekends this place is crowded. There is small shop on the top. So you can have rotti and hot plain tea. Washrooms available

so beautiful ❤️. absolutely recommend this place. but better to go in the early morning (6-6.30) or in the evening. so can have a good time in there. if you are going by your vehicle, drive carefully. or you can go via a tuk from the village. enjoy the beautiful env without distroying it.

We were the only Lankan couple to witness the sunrise on 1st Jan 2024. You have to park the vehicle near the Kovil which you pass on the way to Lipton's seat. There are many tuk drivers whose only income is dropping you to the lipton's seat. They charge 1500/= as at date and this includes return trip and some photo captions. You should take their service because it's difficult to go up until the Lipton's seat, the road is narrow and it's difficult for 2 vehicles to pass by. This place opens at 8am and closes at 5pm. But with the help of tuk drivers you can visit before or after the mentioned time period. Ticket price is 100/= for locals. 500/= for foreigners. If you go around 6am you can see the sunrise. Sunset isn't much clear. The place becomes foggy quickly and unpredictable. But most of the time after a heavy rain it's clear. You can see 5 provinces from this place and ask more details from your tuk driver, he probably knows. There is washroom facilities. 30/= as at date but not clean enough. Also there is a shop to fulfill your hunger cheaply. But nice food and few hot beverages. Recommended for everyone to visit at least once in a lifetime.

It is a great place to visit. Roads are narrow. Car park is not big and only few vehicles can park. Ticket counter is located in little bit below and when the car park is full it will be informed by the ticket counter then you can park your vehicle around the counter and travel there by tuk-tuk from the ticket counter. It is better to visit there in week days for avoiding the traffic jam.

Beautiful place and you can see 5 of 9 provincial areas of Sri Lanka from that view point. Anyway, you should visit there before 10.00 am to see great views. After morning time it may covered the scenes with clouds and mist.

Beautiful viewpoint over tea country down to the south coast of Sri Lanka. Entry fee is 500 rupees per person (Nov 2023). Recommend that you visit in the morning before it gets cloudy. The walk back down to the Dambutanae Tea factory is definitely worth doing. An easy walk through lovely scenery and quiet countryside. Make sure that you visit the Roti store at the top too. Lovely owner, tasty food and tea.

The viewing point is located in the middle of a tea estate. Only one car and one bike can cross the road. Before going to this place, there are no brake faults or other faults in the vehicles and there are no near-repair places. This place is beautifully covered with mist all at once. There is a small restaurant for dining, with wade, plain tea and roti. There is a ticket counter 500 meters below the viewing point and separate tickets are available for vehicles and passengers. Only the statue of James Taylor and the surrounding tea plantations are on display.

You can see 5 provinces of SriLanka from here. There are some tuk drivers before the ticket counter and they’ll be telling like your vehicle cannot go to the top. If you are sure abt your vehicle, you can go to the top. even with a 800cc engine. So many places of the road after the ticket counter is bit narrow. Please be aware of that.

Accessing the place was a quite difficult task due to poor road conditions. Sometimes google maps will get you lost. So better to clarify the road you are going whenever possible. But the view at the final destination is worth the challenge. You will have to buy tickets to go to this place and they will charge for you and your vehicle. There is a canteen and a washroom at the destination, however the washroom condition was very poor.

A really great experience it has been.😍 We visited the place on a Saturday if a long weekend. We expected there to be much of a crowd but surprisingly there was not. If you want to travel the place, recommend you to take a tuk tuk from the parking place provided to park your vehicles?vehicles like cars, motorbikes, which can be hard to use to go all the way up to the top view point) but if you are using a vehicle like a jeep or a double cab or a land cruiser prado or a montero or something like that with more than 1500-2000cc you can easily reach the viewpoint. The only concern is that the road to the place is through tea plantations so it’s just about wide for two vehicle to pass each other with great effort. So if you are taking such a vehicle mentioned above, be prepared to hit reverse whenever you need to. Therefore the best option for you is to hire a tuk tuk from the parking space down below Dambatenna Tea Factory, which will only cost you around 1500LKR for a one tuk tuk. They will let 4 of you get into a one also (which we had some concern🤣). Then you can go to the top without being hesitated and bothered with all the driving hardness, unless you really want the experience. If possible pls ask about the weather of the top from the below car park to ensure that u can witness a great view from up there without disturbances from clouds and mist. There’s a shop with refreshments for you up in the viewpoint, and also there are washrooms to your needs, which are clean and well maintained. You would have to take a ticket from the ticket counter and it’s really really cheap. There’s an uncle who has great knowledge about the whole area up at the viewpoint to guide you through what you see. If possible pls be kind and treat him with whatever way possible🙏 And BEWARE!!!! There are monkeys (රිලව්) up at the viewpoint.🐒 Be really really careful of them unless you want your sunglasses, keys, phones and stuff. They tend to grab and run stuff like those plus Food items. If you visit the place by your own vehicle close all the doors and windows at all times as they will get in and steal🤣🤣 but be sure to give them something to eat as they are so cute😌❤️ So really recommend you to visit the place and witness some breathtaking views of our island paradise❤️✨

Place is ok, but the views from the road to this place are amazing. Price is different for foreigners and locals, keep that in mind :) Food at the top is very tasty and not expensive. Recommend to rent a scooter and go there on your own!

Lipton’s Seat is a high observation point in the hills of Poonagala. Located on the top of the town’s namesake, Poonagala Hill, it is also near the Dambatenne Tea Factory. Lipton’s Seat is so named because the famed Scottish baron and tea planter Sir Thomas Lipton used it as the seat to survey his empire in a time long gone but not forgotten. Liptons Seat in Sri Lanka: The Climb The point of Lipton’s Seat is reached by climbing for around 7km surrounded by peaceful green tea plantations and an occasional colorful tea plucker. There are two routes available; one from the Nayabedda estate in Bandarawela, and the second through the Dambatenna estate in Haputale. Both routes have entrances marked with sign boards and narrow paved roads. Some parts of the road even have some of the original stone constructions from the British era of Ceylon, and hence are worth seeing from a historical point of view. The climb takes about two and a half hours on average, after a visitor reaches the hill top.

Nice family tour. Go through tea states with cool environment. Need to walk and hike, don't go by vehicle. Lots of beautiful viewpoints on the way. Morning is the best time to go. You can get pol rotti with lunu miris and plain tea near the lipton seat. Almost good journey...

Surrounded by a beautiful tea estate, Lipton Seat is a great place to visit. You can come by private vehicle or bus from Haputale town. If someone is coming by bus, you have to get off the bus and walk a short distance. It will be more beautiful. There is a small fee to enter the upper estate. However, don't forget to taste a rotti and a cup of tea from the restaurant near Lipton's seat. ☕😋 -15/July/2019

The view is gorgeous, but definetly not worth the effort to get there. Our mistake was we choose wrong road which was really horrible, after 2 hours of ride we reached the top, took a look and after 10 minutes we went back. The right road to the peak was actually in terrible condition as well. Only nice view but gotta say it’s our first dissappointment in Sri Lanka.

It was a nice experience even though it was raining and cloudy, we have waited around 15 minutes and the sun came up. It is worth waiting because the weather is changing rapidly and the landscape is so beautiful. On another note, we met Bala at Dambathne tea factory tuk tuk park, a tuk tuk driver really nice and reliable guy, most importantly safe driver and trustworthy person.

The hike is beautiful, starting in S. Catherine points by tuk tuk and then walks for around 4 KM to reach the sitting place of Sir Lipton, passing by the famous tea plantation. Note only that all the harvesters workers are women and earning no more than 3 dollars per day for a minimum of 25 kg tea leaf harvested. Note always gold what it shines.

Very beautiful view point and when you reach here there is a small food shop they have tea and roti also a few more items... recommend going here when it's less cloudy like early morning... if you're traveling by personal vehicle be careful road is narrow or at a point you find taxi's(tuktuk) and they offer to take you.. I advise taking one because it's easy and also enjoyable and at the top they let you take your time...

It's very tricky with the weather - we got there beginning september and saw nothing but fog. Still the place has a magical atmosphere and at the top you can have tea and traditional food.

The Scottish tea baron Sir Thomas Lipton used to survey his burgeoning empire from here. Lipton’s seat is a panoramic overlooking destination in Sri lanka. Handapanagala lake, Chandrika lake, Uda walwe lake, Wedi hiti Kanda mountains, and also the hambanthota harbor alocated in the in the southern coastal area nd five provinces in Sri Lanka can be seen remarkably. The Dambetenna longest tea

500 roupies for foreigners. 100 for the tuktuk. No need to go for sunrise, we can not see from here. There is just à Statue of Liptons. You can see more tea plantation from other place 45min by tuktuk from haputale.

360 degree view & a good spot for nature lovers, if you try to go early morning you can get a fresh breeze and that will mesmerize you. I recommend to try in motorcycle to experience the journey.

A very beautiful place. The road is not the best, but this is an amazing place. Just a magical view to the south. In bathroom weather you can see everything up to the ocean. Wonderful

The place is amazing if you want to just sit down and enjoy the view. It's very easy to get here, but the road is narrow, so be extra careful when driving. You can get your vehicle ( car/van/bike) to the very top, and there is parking available. The road to this place is also very beautiful with amazing landscapes.

  • 5/5 Sumalka M. 1 year ago on Google
It is in the middle of a tea plantation. You can go up to the top of the mountain in your vehicle, the road is a bit rusty in the beginning, but gets better as you get to the top. There’s space to park. Beautiful view from the top. Great scenery for pictures!

Lipton's Seat is the one of the most famous visiting place in Sri Lanka. You can see huge area from here. But there is a big problem. The entrance fee is very high. Also separate tickets are issued for the person entering and the vehicle. Should change ticket price

Very Beautiful destination. You can see many Districts of Sri Lanka in a sunny day. This place is managing by Dambethenna estate (Lanken Ceylon PLC). Car ticket is Rs. 250.00 and Per person Rs.100.00. No water at the top and toilets are locked. Road is narrow and not repaired recently.

Picture perfect scenery. Its best visited by the sun rises to witness a whole new experience of natures beauty. Local trishaw rider Mahinda of Haputale was more than helpful and we had a safe and a very affordable ride with him.

Amazing amazing sunrise. One of the best experiences. You need to be at the gates at 5.30ish early morning. If you are visiting here don't miss the sunrise. Get out of the bed early in the morning and start climbing up the hills via a very scenic route

Punagala road has the best view but narrow road. Be careful if you are driving a low ground clearance vehicle. ⛰🏞
