My son and me wanted to have a lesson. In the website they have a pricelist. When arriving to the golf club they did not honor the prices in the site and asked for almost 6 times more. The fact it is on their website did not matter to them.

We went here for ten holes of golf. We paid more than the website told us, were obligated to pay large sums of money for everything. At the end the caddies asked for a tip of $20. It felt like a shakedown. Would definitely not recommend it. You can play cheaper golf in the Netherlands and it would actually look nice. Here everything was poorly maintained, muddy, shabby. Go for something else or be prepared to pay large sums of money. Really felt disappointed when leaving. Sri Lanka doesnt deserve this.

Visited the club for lunch after a visit to Dessford Tea Estate. We were hosted for a lovely Sri Lankan meal. It was delicious. Good service too.

This is a really well preserved Private Members Golf Club located in the beautiful tea plantation district of Nuwara Eliya. For me, it is a real pleasure to re-visit it and play here after 16 long years. And it is every bit as lovely as I remember. If anything, the quality of maintenance has only improved! Nuwara Eliya Golf Club is very similar to some of our Indian Hill Station Golf Clubs/ Courses in India such as Ooty Gymkhana, Wellington Gymkhana in Rhe Nilgiris, Mercara Downs, Coorg Golf Links in Coorg, Kundale Golf Club in Munnar, Naldehra in Shimla etc. Really welcoming people and place. Extremely well maintained fairways and greens. (Rough roughs though!) Spectacular views all over. Excellent service and a very high quality of catering. Golf club rentals available. Good caddies available. And a nice Pro shop where one can buy golf balls and gloves etc. Green fees are reasonable. A good workout walking up and down the hills and dales. Absolutely Glorious on a sunny crisp winter’s day! A Must Play, Golfing destination!

Went here for a lunch when we visited nuwara eliya. A member can only bring 6 people for restaurant. And anyone more have to pay 500per person. Food is okay. The scenery is beautiful tho.

Undoubtedly one of the best places both to relax and for Golfing. The Green view wing, rooms which has been opened in April 2021 are amazing; very spacious. The food has been always the best and the cup of Tea. The 18-hole course caters to both the casual golfers and the enthusiastic amateurs. Undoubtedly everyone will enjoy the course with native green grass which is mixed with bluegrass...

Just spent 3 days here. Loved the vibe and the atmosphere. A friendly supportive staff. Meals served were great. Situated in the heart of Nuwara Eliya. I think there has to be a member with the crowd to visit here or to have a stay in. I'm not certainly sure of it. But it really is a nice relaxing place. The new rooms are full of facilities and comfortable to stay in. The food served here was good. There is a lot of variety that you can choose from. Overall I would highly recommend this place.

Value for money on the food, service can be better. The green is amazing and it's an 18 hole golf course. They've also got rooms for guests and beautiful gardens.

The Nuwara Eliya Golf Club, founded in 1889, is one of the oldest golf clubs in Asia and probably the world. It is an institution, rich in tradition, history and carries an ambience unparalleled in this country. Founded, primarily for their rest and recreation, by the British planters who cultivated the land for tea in the Nuwara Eliya district, to this day it caters to some of the customs and traditions of the country’s colonial past. This quaint admixture of old-world charm and modern trappings invests it with a special aura, and is the essence of its attractiveness. It is located in Nuwara Eliya, known the world over for the premier quality of the tea produced in the plantations that surround the club. Despite being situated just a stone’s throw from the town, the club still maintains an air of exclusivity, a desirable apartness, so that when one enters its gates, one is transported to a world that has been left behind by the march of history. The 18-hole course, 6,399 yards long, is a testing par 71 and is made up of long , narrow fairways, bordered by rows of towering eucalyptus trees and elegant cypresses, held together by dense acacia shrubbery. Good positional play is a must for a positive outcome and the course terrain, with its succession of undulating dales and hills, and the many water hazards, confronts the serious golfer with a series of stimulating challenges. Yet, despite its natural difficulties, it also caters to both the casual golfer and the enthusiastic amateur. The grass on the greens is native, mixed with bluegrass. We welcome golfers of all ages and abilities. We have a well-earned reputation as ‘one of the friendliest clubs’ in the country and aim to provide an experience that exceeds expectations, both on the golf course and in the clubhouse. The service at the club is designed to care for the family whilst the serious players compete out on the park. Assisted by a team of highly competent ground staff, we work very hard at providing a course that can be enjoyed by everyone. Our members play socially and competitively. Our resident golf professional provides lessons on all days of the week. Opening Times: Golfers and their visitors are welcome to use the bar and lounges.
The Clubhouse opens from 6.00am daily.
Please contact the Club Office/ Pro Shop for opening times for golf during your visit

Restricted for the members of the club and their guests. The staff was quite friendly. But some of the guards and other workers are quite rude. Have a strict policy related to clothing especially for men. The rooms are fine. The amenities provided in each room is different. Rooms have no heaters so better to take proper clothing for cold weather. Gets quite cold at night. The place is quite cleanly however during the three days of our stay, there was a pile of dust and dirt in the corridor which was never removed.

Rooms are average but no heaters available. ( couldn’t check the new wing). Strictly only for the golf club members. I think the freedom is limited. (Dress code limitations plus others..)

Here for a day and thought I might have the opportunity to play golf somewhere different. Greens looked shabby and more like uncut fairway. Fairway looked like rough. Was quoted over $50US for 10 holes plus 6500R (over $20) for club hire which all looked ancient plus extra for balls etc. so about $100Usd to play a rough looking unkempt track. Did not bother.

The place is good to play Golf. There are hardly any players. So you have the entire course for yourself. Have a good game and you can enjoy your beer.

Bad experience , with verry poor service. They confirmed that they have driver quarters. But after onboarding they said they don't have. Had to cancel the reservation arround 7pm and search for another accomodation .

Beautiful location but they need to understand the customer the members perspective to revamp the marketing strategy.

Mixed feelings about learning golf at Nurawa Elia. On the one hand, the pricing for golf lessons is reasonable, but on the other hand, the instructors expect tips which can be uncomfortable. It's frustrating to feel like they're trying to squeeze as much money out of you as possible, but it's also a priceless feeling unique to Sri Lanka. One downside is that they don't provide gloves for learning, which can be a hindrance. After playing, I had blisters that took several days to heal. However, overall, the experience of playing golf for the first time was positive.

Did not like the place much. Boring for long stay. Service is same as everywhere in SriLanka. Unvaried menue. Nice landscapes and not so bad golf trainers. Rooms are different. Check images before booking or paying.

Two of us had a golf lesson (as guests) for $10 + $18 for the practice session, so $28 for 1 hour/ person of Golf Session from a very good coach. This golf club is located quite near to the city centre. There’s a restaurant in the club for refreshments and food. They provide you with the equipment. The rules on dress code are a bit relaxed, which was great for us, but wearing shoes is a must.🫢 You can book the session by calling them before hand or just walk in. Overall great experience!

Lovely place for a cup of tea and to enjoy fresh air. Typical temperatures you’d get in the UK around April/May (balmy, but wet spring weather). Just a lovely little place really and it feels bit like what UK may have looked like in the Edwardian era had the time stopped. Definitely worth a visit.

One of the best places to relax and play some golf. Food is great & the ambiance is perfect if you are 80's fan. Rooms are spacious, service was great! Had a really good time.

Would rate this higher if they delivered on what they promised. The atmosphere is serene and calming, but their portions on food are diabolical. We ordered a pork, but what we got was 80% onion and 20% pork.
