Awesome place to visit & discover the beauty of Sri Lanka railway system over 100 years before. The architecture is amazing with the curvy shape of the bend.

The Nine Arch Bridge, also known as the Demodara Bridge, is a famous railway bridge located in Ella, Sri Lanka. It's renowned for its stunning architecture, consisting of nine stone arches, which gives it its name. The bridge was built during the British colonial era and is an impressive example of engineering from that time. It's a popular tourist attraction and offers beautiful views of the surrounding lush greenery and tea plantations. Many visitors come to watch trains pass over the bridge, which adds to its charm.

This is the only bridge is built without using IRON. And the engineer was a Sri Lankan who worked as a labour in this rail track

Walking along the Nine Arch Bridge is a memorable experience. The arches, each meticulously crafted, create a captivating sight and evoke a sense of wonder. As you stroll across the bridge, you can feel the weight of history and marvel at the engineering genius of the past. The combination of the bridge's sturdy construction and the beautiful surroundings makes it an ideal spot for a leisurely walk or a peaceful moment of reflection.

It was a narrow steep trek, as it was raining, leeches were common to find . Better equip yourself with walking shoes than slippers. It will be enjoyable if you are physically sound.

Very beautiful place you shouldn't skip it, ask about the train time before you go because you will take a wonderfull landscape photos, be in the beginning of the bridge to catch the snap the train while it is coming to your side

Path is a bit tricky to navigate especially when wet. Wouldn’t recommend for the less mobile. Watch out for leeches all along the path! It’s worth the walk to see and be on the Nine Arches Bridge.

A great experience, you can walk along the tracks from Ella train station or walk up through the villiage (we did the loop and was about 2 hours total) Wasn’t to busy and plenty of spots to get a good photo

It is indeed an impressing view and train fans will love the spectacle. But it's also a bit hyped and loads of (mostly) russian wannabe influencers blocking the view and do dangerous stunts on the edge of the bridge. Make sure to come early, before most tourists spoil the experience.

There were many walking paths leading to the Nine Arch Bridge. We found the trek opposite Ella Hostel comparatively easier to reach. A tuk tuk will take you half of the journey and the rest by foot. Tuk tuks upto the bridge, with no trekking available from Ella town. Great service for those who find it difficult to walk or trek down on sloppy roads.

Beautiful bridge and perfect for photo opportunities. Make sure you wear sturdy shoes for the walk there and back. Tuk tuks are also available if you don't fancy the hike.

It's a beautiful view if you watch it from the view point. Didn't have a walk on the tracks, the place was crowded.

  • 4/5 Mathis B. 2 years ago on Google
Nice but crowded after 10am. If you arrive a bit earlier, the place is quite empty. Afterwards you buy a coconut at one of the vendors right next to the bridge and wait for the train, passing I.e. at 11am and 11.30am
