The seminary is a calm and peaceful place and has really nice and cool weather. The surroundings are scenic and beautiful. Especially the edge of the forest road offers an areal view of whole of the city of Kandy and the Mahaweli River. The Rev. Fathers and Brothers there are friendly and they help the visitors willingly. A must visit place.

National Seminary Ampitiya is about 5Km from Kandy City. Seminarians from other dioceses come here after getting through National Seminary Entrance Examination (NSE). This is the final abode/intramural formation house towards priesthood. Philosophy and Theology are the subjects taught here. Peaceful, Calm and quiet surroundings in a small village in Ampitiya. God Bless You all!!!

What a shame, I went to see this place today. But I couldn't because they didn't let me in. I asked the reason but the security guy there didn't tell me clearly what the reason was. Instead of that he said that he couldn't do anything he got orders from head father. Head father? Big father? whatever the father but I couldn't go inside. This bloody place in temporary closed 😐 so don't waste your time travelling all the way. Just leave it.

If you're around Kandy, you might want to stop by the National Seminary in Ampitiya - a beautiful expanse of old buildings and wild trees, and home to young would-be priests.

National Seminary of Our Lady of Lanka is a Roman Catholic seminary located in Ampitiya, Kandy, Sri Lanka. It consists with several beautiful creations with British architectural influences that serves as a religious education center for philosophy and theology. You need a special permit to enter, but you can still view the outer area.

A serene religious location nestled among the hills off the bustling Kandy town. This Catholic institution has been responsible for the formation of young religious priests for many decades. It has one of the oldest and well maintained libraries in the whole of South Asia. It is reported that many countries in the Asian region depended on getting young students exposed to the formation of young priests in this hallowed facility.

We are traveling to seminary today and we got permission from the church priest....and it's is a wonderful experience to watch a very old and beautiful place... It's good to walk one of the students of the seminary with us and tell us about historical and current seminary.
