Really cool experience, the whole thing was very well done and reminded me of the Smithsoniam exhibits. I especially liked the miniatures and doll houses, but the toy exhibits were better than I expected. They have a fun scavenger hunt activity. And an introductory film. The admission prices were already reasonable, but then we got a fantastic military discount. Parking was easy and there were numerous clean bathrooms. Great place.

The Toy Museum has an admission of $8 (cheaper for certain groups like college students) and should take around 1-2 hours to walk. It takes a while because to fully appreciate the miniatures, you have to examine each one very closely. I never thought I would go to a museum to see toys on displays. The scavenger hunt was lots of fun, but the prize is disappointing. The gift shop is small, but has a few cool items.

This is a MUST MUST MUST do while you're in Kansas City. The prices are very reasonable, and you can spend as much or as little time here as you'd like. Their collection is insane, and everything is displayed so well. This place will be good for your soul. And as a cherry on top, the toys on the 2nd floor are also an awesome collection.

This museum is a gem of Kansas City. It is a must-see treasure with so many eye-opening, incredibly splendid, gorgeous, finely crafted miniatures that elicited a thousand 'WOWs' from me. It is truly one of a kind and leaves a lasting impression. Every visitor was amazed, closely observing each masterpiece with wide-open eyes and a big smile on their face, clearly showing their great appreciation. It was such an enjoyable experience! I extend a million thanks to those who poured their hearts into making these collections extraordinary. The museum is also situated in a tranquil and incredibly beautiful neighborhood, surrounded by lush greenery. Recommend to everyone! You won't be disappointed!

The National Museum of Toys and Miniatures is a must-see for any age group. I believe a visit will bring some long-forgotten joy to anyone for at least a day. There are toys dating back to the 1800s and beyond to delight the elderly. Toy displays from the 50s through the 70s can make the middle-aged feel young again. There are toys from the '80s, 90s, and up to the present, which are fun for younger generations. The dollhouse area is not just for little girls, although they are a dream come true for many little girls. My husband was even in awe of these displays. My favorite dollhouse was the giant one. They are just beautiful! What I liked most about this entire museum was the displays of miniatures. I cannot begin to tell you how impressive, exquisite, beautiful, and unbelievable these miniature displays are! I couldn't get enough of them! The tiniest pieces are the most incredible! It was a wonderful experience, and I would go back again just to spend more time in the "miniatures" section.

Plan on spending over an hour here. There is so much to look at and read about from so many eras. I loved the doll exhibit and wish I would have had more time to read every artifact description. It is a miniature and toy museum, both on different floors. I had no idea that much miniature looking furniture was a real thing. Beautiful displays that are well thought through.

A must stop if you are in town. A well thought out and truly unique museum. Kind of unbelievable how people made all these tiny objects. If you liked those I Spy books as a kid you are going to love this place, it's like hundreds of I Spy settings in real life

If You Love the Miniture World, this place is for You! Around every corner there is another WOW! Definitely worth the $10 admission fee.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND. Exquisite and truly magical experience. Plan for at least 3+ hours, we wished we had more time to really see everything. The pictures/videos don’t do it justice AT ALL. There is something for everyone here, it breathes nostalgia.

This is such a fantastic museum, an absolute treasure! It is impossible to get through it in one visit, if you are traveling with kiddos or if you are poring over each and every item. We were fortunate enough to visit the last day of an exhibit on the Gender Divide in toys. We'll look at the Dollhouses next visit!

Both parts of this were fun to visit. The toys section was a trip down memory lane and the miniature part showcased some great craftsmanship.

I'm biased because I love miniatures. I accidentally found this on Google Maps when planning a weekend in KC and I was delighted. The museum is in a great location, near other touristy stops. It is full of miniatures, well labeled, and nicely explained. It was active but not busy. I will return when I next visit KC. The toy portion of the museum wasn't labeled as well, but was still interesting - seeing toys from your childhood that have long been lost its fun no matter how old you are.

Such a great museum that I highly recommend visiting. It's unbelievable what people are able to do. I really enjoyed walking around this museum and thoroughly reviewing each item. It took a while, but it was so worth it. It has its own parking space.

Went here with my nephew! Definitely wish there were more interactive exhibits for the kids (he's three) as those few were his fave. I had a lovely time looking at the dollhouses

I’ve always wanted to stop by and finally did, spent about 2 and half hours here and loved every minute! The miniature things were so cute and some seriously TINY and DETAILED miniature items I couldn’t get over!!! If you like small things, you HAVE to pop in!

Mind-blowing collection! Do not miss having a visit while in KC. I used to love coming here as a kid and now as an adult I am in awe. Location is also great to walk around and eat at some good local restaurants.

If all of the miniatures in this museum were full size, they would probably fill a distribution warehouse! Some things are so small they can only be seen under a microscope. You will be fascinated by all of the fully furnished and ornately decorated room vignettes. Prepare to learn a lot about process of creating miniatures from finding wood grain with the right scale to the lost wax technique for casting bronze. Spoiler alert: Rodin used the same technique. It’s exhausting! If you can pull yourself away from the miniatures, the upstairs is filled with toys! You will see your childhood favorites as well as the history of toys. Don’t miss the specialty cases. One really highlights our changing views about what is an appropriate toy. What child wouldn’t enjoy a toy beer pitcher and mug set? Take a look at the Rube Goldberg machine video. Couldn’t you just watch it all day? This museum will keep most adults engaged for 2-3 hours. Kids might find it more frustrating than fun. All of the fun stuff is behind glass.

What a cool museum! It's 2 floors of fun stuff to look at. My biggest comment would be that if you're in a room where one of the employees tells you that they can explain the new exhibit pieces to you in that room, take that person up on it and ask for an explanation. It's totally worth it. I would have really missed out on some awesome, interesting info. For instance, when I was there, there was a set of miniature buildings that were from known serial killers. Another set was used to take realistic photography so the viewer would think that they were looking at something from real life when it's a model. I would have never known the significance of either set! Make sure you look at the hours before going, they are limited and you'll want to give yourself at least 2 hrs to look around if not more. The museum store cold use some more items like coffee mugs and a museum book but it's pretty cool too.

I really appreciate this museum. I feel that the entrance fee (10 per adult) is very reasonable for the interest value. I've paid more to see less, for sure. The bathrooms were SPARKLING, the parking lot generously sized. The miniatures were exquisite and entranced children and adults alike. Perfect example of what a niche musuem should be.

It was like going back in your childhood and seeing all the toys you used to play with! The minatures were so cool! both adults and kids can love this place

Great little place to stop in for a little while. The miniatures were pretty awesome and the videos they had showing how intricate the work was, was fascinating. I wish some of the items here had placards or something to tell a little.bit more about the piece and the designer since many were unlabeled. The toy portion was also neat to look at and experience some of the older toys. There didn't seem to be much cohesion between how the toys were laid out and maybe have the sections dedicated to each toy maker and set the toys in a fashion where you can see the evolution of the toys. This felt closer to an art exhibit as opposed to a museum, but still interesting either way. I'd recommend this if someone was looking for a nice way to spend an hour or two on the weekend. Very clean establishment as well.

If you're looking for a unique museum in the KC area, and you don't have a lot of time, the National Museum of Toys & Miniatures is the place to visit. Being a child of the 80's, I loved seeing all the action figures, toys and more. This place is fairly small so it doesn't take long to go through and A LOT of the displays are doll houses and dolls, which are cool but really not my thing.

  • 5/5 Edith C. 11 months ago on Google
This place was so cool. Loved seeing the miniatures and they had a small section showing the process on making them. The care and talent is amazing.

I visited this museum by myself and really enjoyed it. The displays were nicely done and the information was good and I second all of the positive reviews here. I have to admit that, because everything is saturated with wokeness, the subtle digs at "upper-class white children" were a downer. Adults visiting the exhibits know that the children who played with these toys from the 1800s were mostly white and from wealthy families. Children visiting the exhibits don't need more examples of how white children are oppressors. Besides those small blips, it was an enjoyable couple of hours.

This is an amazing collection of minatures, and unlike a collection at say, the Art Institute of Chicago, this collection has mush more in-depth information on how they are made. It also has display of just the accessories not in a rooom, which was a nice touch. The toy collection is great as well, spanning several decades. Not overwhelming, in scope, but a great overall presentation. Parking was free!, Museum was clean, and easily accessible. It is big enough to keep you busy for anywhere from an hour if just browsing, to much longer if you want to dig deep into the amazing details.

This museum is such a joy to visit. There is something for everyone here and we had so much fun looking at all the miniatures and toys. Good luck getting out of here without purchasing at least 4 or 5 things from their gift shop.

The variety of dolls, miniatures and antique/vintage toys that the national museum of toys had on display will have every kid to octogenarian reminiscing and wanting to get down on the floor and play like a kid again! The accessibility makes the museum fun for everyone and make sure you stop at the front desk and ask about the scavenger hunt!

We spent way more time in here than we expected. We went straight to the toys and saw so many great items. Many blasts from the past. I was amazed by the detail on itemscin the miniture displays. I thought it was well worth the price of admission.

This place is delightful! The workmanship on these pieces is just amazing! You can spend hours looking at all the intricacies. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I didn't go to the toy museum. There were too many noisy kids and I don't like noisy kids. 😐 It wasn't something I was really interested in. (No reflection on the museum. Just personal taste) Go, go, go there. The entry fee was $8 and worth every penny ten times over.

Very cool place. They display regular toys and doll houses in the last hundred years in one section and miniature artifacts in another section. If you grew up in this United States, I think this place will definitely bring back old memories. Not so much if you are from somewhere else. The miniature toys are so much fun. It's incredible how small some of these things can be. Highly recommend.

Great place to visit with children. Good toys collection and miniature homes and crafts. I was amazed by the intricate detailed work that reflect hard work of the craftsman.

It was neat to see all the toys and miniatures. We got there an hour before closing, we got to see most of the museum but we wanted to see all of the miniatures gallery. Which unfortunately was not enough time. Definitely will be back!

Wish I had more time to view this place. It is not extremely big but you could be there for hours. Fun for all ages.
