Like a time capsule, you literally step back and see everything preserved in the home of our 33rd President. Surreal, even the calender where the housekeeper stopped marking the day Bess passed. Everything is kept immaculate, as if it was still being lived in. I have been twice, once with my father who grew up walking to school and waving to him, "Hi Mr. President." To see him tour the home was awesome. You stay on plastic runners and do not go off of them. As well, are not allowed upstairs. Tours are $7 I believe and in small groups. A must see. They did not live extravagantly by any means, but did own nice things. The house originally belonged to her family, but guide will give details. Both times I've been the guides were very informed.

We drove by on a Friday will be back. I'd only been to the Truman library not around the area. We had business at the courthouse so decided to go by the library and home. Was interesting how close all three places were to each other. Will be back to tour the home in the future.

Took our 2 scout troops to visit. The staff was great and we did get to see a lot of history. I had been here years ago and still found new things to see. I recommend this for all scout troops in the area to visit.

The house was an awesome visit to cap off the Truman Museum. The Park Ranger was knowledgeable and gracious with his time. It's free was another bonus

The house was not open for a tour but the grounds were. The ranger was excellent in his presentation about the history of the house. He also provided allot of information about former president Truman's time spent there.

Cool to see the farm home of Missouri's only United States president. Interesting sight that is well preserved. Apparently they do interior tours on Friday and Saturday. We didn't get to go inside. There is coyote currently living under one of the out buildings. They have that area cordoned off. We saw him go under the smokehouse.

Interesting short tour. I personally knew very little about President Truman but the look into his private home proved he was most definitely a common man and not one brought up in politics. Our tour guide, Richard, was very knowledgeable and was able to answer each and every question thrown at him. I Would definitely recommend this tour to anyone wanting to take a walk into the past. Ps. Richard, sorry I misbehaved and got off the carpet. 😉🤣

At this time you can't tour the inside of the house but tours of the grounds still exist. Well worth a visit!!!

We stopped at the home of 33rd President Harry Truman and First Lady Bess Truman in Independence Missouri. They retired here after his presidency. I loved the gingerbread house. We toured the downstairs which was the only part open to the public. He was President from April 12 1945- January 20 1953, succeeding President Franklin Roosevelt after his death. Truman was Vice President at the time.

The home was so beautiful. Bess's family had a very beautiful home. Wish we could have seen the upstairs but the down stairs was great.

This is my 3rd or 4th time to the Truman Library and it was like I had never been there. The new additions and remodeling was like a brand new museum. Excellent

The library was actually very interesting. You can watch a 45 minute video of Harry Truman's life story. There's a replica of the Presidents office at the White House. Harry and his wife are buried here as well. Definitely a must see for history buff. $8 charge to get in for adults. Some discounts are available for military.

Had the most amazing time at the Truman museum, followed by an excellent tour. The volunteer ranger Jeff was very knowledgeable and kind. His insight and detailed descriptions of Truman’s home were very memorable. He created a lasting memory for my father and I. Would recommend this experience to anyone. Thank you to Jeff again!!

The site is a great place to visit to learn more about Truman and his life during and after his presidency. Tickets are first come, first serve, so get there early to get your time slot you want. Tours are on the ½ hour and are limited. You need to go to the visitor center first to get the tickets. No photography allowed while inside or on the grounds.

So much I didn't know about Truman. A modest frugal man. A must see if in KC area. Guides provide insight. And it's Free to visit. Get tickets for entry about 10 blocks away.

Very informative tour of the home of the Truman's!! The inside is the same as it was when Mrs Truman passed in 1982. No picture taking allowed in the home itself. I was surprised to see one reviewer must have snuck in picture taking of their visit. The upstairs is not included in the tour but pictures of bedrooms are across the street at the Noland home.

They refused to let me inside Truman's house, even though I got there at 4:20. The last round is at 4:30. The employee of the visitor center Jeff Wade told me to come tomorrow. Although I told him I was leaving town today. And he was supposed to let me in today. Especially since I had a ticket. Very poor service!!!

Good movie at the visitor center. Just wish the house was closer to the visitor center. Tour was great to see how the house was just as it was when Bess died. Humble furnishings in a grand house

The house is a half hour tour and the ranger giving the tour was excellent. Get there early! I was there as they were opening and had to wait 1.5hrs for the second tour. They only take 8 people so 2 families in front of you and you're waiting a while.

I highly recommend the Truman home tour for anyone with even a general interest in American history and culture. Although it is a short tour -and only shows a portion of the home interior - it is still a classic look at the home life of "the accidental president". If your visit sparks an interest in Harry and Bess Truman ... I strongly encourage you to read the short and interesting book " Harry Truman's excellent adventure" which describes their cross-country road trip (after the presidency!) ... during which they expected to be treated as average citizens. 😎.

Over the years I have visited the Truman Home and Museum/Library many times. It is always a very rewarding visit. As David McCullough says is his biography, TRUMAN, we are reminded by HST what kind of person the president should be. When he left office in 1953, he said he was being promoted. Now I’ll be an ordinary citizen, he said. Visiting the grounds of the house at 219 N. Delaware on Monday, May 8, 2023 (house was closed as it was Monday), the house itself was beautifully maintained but the bushes were untrimmed, the grass was uncut and full of weeds and the area all along the fence was full of trash and dead leaves. Historians regularly rate President Truman as one of the best presidents in U.S. history. He deserves better than to have his home’s grounds neglected. Immediately, I went to the Main Street Visitor Center to express concern. The VC was closed but a Ranger was there and told me “we have a staff shortage”! The National Park Service needs to do better.

Don’t try and visit unless you know someone in town to reserve the tickets when then first become available in the day. There is no way to advance reserve so traveling there to try and visit is a fools errand Visit the library instead. Ticket scalpers paradise…

I wasn't there when it was open but I appreciated the exterior from an architectural perspective.

The Park Ranger giving the tour did a fantastic job. I have a newly found interest and respect for the Truman family.

We were blessed that 219 Delaware has recently reopened for ranger-led tours ! What a gem! The house has been living preserved according to Bess’ will. It is unexpectedly homey for a man of such stature. Worth the time to learn about the President and First Lady. Across the street is another home you can tour as well that Truman’s aunt and uncle owned. When you stop by the visitor’s center to sign up for the tour, take a peak at the book with photos of the 2nd floor. You won’t be able to tour that part of the house. Sorry no photos allowed in the home.

A park ranger gave us a tour through the house where Harry and Bessie lived their entire lives except when he was a Senator and President and resided in Washington D.C. He was a very interesting man. It was an excellent tour

The BC is loaded with information and a high tech tracking system for the tours which happen a few blocks away. The Rangers were very helpful and engaging. Had to pass on the tour for time constraints and have it pencilled in for August. The exterior of the house is beautiful.
