It’s been around a month since the water fountain is broken, and nobody cares fixing it. The handgrip on the chest press machine shown on the picture has been missing for months and you can’t even use it properly. The front desk employees (mostly evening/night time) never recognize/greet you when you enter in or leave the gym. The other night I said ‘Have a good night’ to the front desk on my way out, she heard and was completely dismissive. They give you an unwelcoming energy. The only reason why I keep coming at this location is because it is closer to where I live. The management just seem to not really care. In comparison with the other locations this one deserves 2 stars.

For the price of 45-50 it’s a great deal. Towels and soap are provided. Because of Covid-19 you do it have access to the sauna or pool. They have majority new machines and good gear. The crowd here is a mixed bag some ghetto, some classy.

I had to take my 5 Star rating away... This gym is horrible compared to the one's in Independence, Lee's Summit, etc. I pay $60 a month plus a $45 yearly fee and the gym looks like that?! I will not be returning to this gym. Is this the only Genesis that didn't get updated equipment? Everything looks dilapidated. Treadmill belts in bad fashion, weight machines with no pins in them, no clamps for barbells. What is really going on in this gym? I get it, it's the inner city and no one gives a hoot. Get it together.

The worst management ever!! I signed up back in April with the manager back then(Rhonda) who told me that my account had a buddy pass for six month and I would be able to extend it for $15 a month after that. After 3 month a was told that my account doesn’t have a buddy pass and thatRhonda lied to me and that they fired her but Gabriel the new manager said that I still can bring a friend whenever I wanted . Today after almost 6 month Megan the manager at the Overland Park told me that my account doesn’t have a buddy pass and she called Gabriel who said that he knew nothin about my account!! It’s very frustrating and unprofessional

This is a platinum gym.. This is an absolute disgrace that your manger of this club does not take pride in the club he is running, and he is only worried about signing new members. I have addressed my concerns about issues to the young man and he shakes them off!! I am not sure how you guys can move this club to a platinum gym when you have mold growing in your steam room,in multi places,exposed wires,and a hot tub that’s been out of order for months. Lisa is phenomenal and does the absolute best she can,but the upper management is a joke

I've been a member for many, many years. The staff are always friendly, welcoming and they keep the facilities neat and clean. Additionally, I'm really glad they finally remodeled this location! However, there are few issues needing correction. One, I absolutely hate their toilets in the female restroom! They are certainly not for adults, but more for 1st graders. (Much too low!) Secondly, absolutely none of the audio equipment on the exercising machines works with the televisions. They should just tape over it and write "out of order". Other than this, oh and the steam room does not work consistently, this gym is fine!

Front desk worker older black lady with shoulder length dreads rude,disrespectful, and very provoking with tone of voice towards customers and members, Really un-professional. She proceeded to respond in a way to try to get me outta character with little remarks gum smacking and eye rolling. My account recently got re activated through another location with a note stated on my profile. She made me feel very uncomfortable stating I’m lying and who ever fixed my account isn’t important consistently coming for my character, mind you it’s 730am. I took matters in my own hands and left respectfully to another location where i wouldn’t feel disrespected. I understand people have bad days but bringing your home life and problems to work is very un-professional especially in a family community environment.

The overall customer service is good with mostly very nice people running the front desk. However the facility is very small for the amount of equipment and traffic. I would not suggest getting a membership if you’re planning on working out during busy hours. There is also a lot of missing and broken equipment that makes it even harder to find a good spot in there to exercise. Lastly, if you get a membership, be VERY careful about what you’re paying for. I was given an over the phone price guarantee, a different, higher one when I signed up, and an even higher fee when I canceled. There are without a doubt hidden fees— be mindful.

In March I received a call about my past do balance. To prevent the charges from reoccurring I selected to freeze my account. The salesperson I spoke with notated the account but never submitted the freezing of the account. Being that my account was wrongfully charged I spoke with the sales manager and requested that he fix the error on my account. *Note that I originally came in to the club to cancel my membership. The club manager stated that if I cancel my membership he can’t undo what’s done. Simple right!!! So I made a small payment to keep the account active and allow the mistake to be undone. The club manager then reneges on what he could do and states that he can freeze my account for 3 MORE months which would add about another 33$ to what is already owed versus removing the the additional charges from April - June . I was never notified that the freeze was not applied. I stated to manager I would like to speak to the owner to right the wrong doing and he proceeded to belittle me for not knowing who he was and throwing his 9 year tenure with the company in my face. Little did he know I was a former employee of the company and will be reporting these false charges with the BBB.

BEWARE OF THEIR PREDATORY PRACTICES My boyfriend signed us up for a membership and we have gone for a little over a week. My major issue is that my boyfriend signed up for a training session with LEON. Tall guy, thinning hairline, wears a puffer vest. The session was for 30 minutes. My boyfriend was with him for 2+ hours. Only 30 of which were spent working out. The last hour and a half was a high pressure sales pitch. In which he MADE him sign up for additional training each month that we cannot afford. He went as far as telling him what he could cut from his budget to fit LEON in. My boyfriend tried to tell him he needs to talk about it with me. And LEON had the audacity to say “Well aren’t you the head of the household?” Whether he is or isn’t doesn’t matter. We are a partnership and who the hell is Leon? Sorry I we didn’t sign up for a fitness trainer to give bad financial and relationship advice. On top of this, their emergency exit elevator is out of order which I’m sure is probably illegal. One of the three treadmills on the bottom floor is broken and I’ve almost fallen off of it, and so is my boyfriend. And three toilets are down in the women’s bathroom. I don’t know if we will be members much longer. I wouldn’t recommend this place to my enemies

Genesis just has the most shady business practices. Their billing and membership practices are so shady it’s borderline a scam. As someone else called out the only way to cancel is to go in person to make it more of a hassle to leave. Just a slimy desperate move. The gym is dirty and the people aren’t all that friendly either. Better to find a different gym. I went in and signed my notice to terminate my month to month membership today. Let’s see if they actually honor that or if they keep billing me.

I thought I was the only one scammed by genesis but based on these reviews I wasn’t the only one. Originally went in for a 3 days pass. Person told me I could get a month to month membership if I signed up today. Once I signed up I began getting weird messages about needing a trainer and calls literally every time I would leave the gym and not generated auto messages . Typed out messages paragraphs. It was very weird I asked at least 10 other people if they got the same messages they all said no. I also didn’t know you were able to take a customer personal information for their system and call & text them either. Seems like a breach in security but once I tried to cancel what I thought was a month to month membership. I was told I was in a 6 month contract and i would get a call back . The people in their “headquarters” do not ever call back so don’t wait on a call back you’ll have to keep calling. Because I kept getting charged 50$ for over 9 months . Luckily they gave me a refund for 200$ for the months outside of the contract. But this place is a complete scam. They just want your money and will hassle you even when they know it is an employee issue and not a customer issue. I will never ever go back to genesis they do not care about their customers

I have been attending this facility before it was Genesis. Whereas it has some nice facilities and friendly personnel, the maintenance is substandard (not because of bad personnel). I showed up to swim today and for the second time in 3 tries (last Friday and today, Wednesday) the pool was closed, City enforced. IMJ, this is not a City issue this is a maintenance issue. I was told that the recent maintenance man just quit. He was not full-time. Apparently, ownership isn’t interested enough in serving clientele to provide full-time maintenance. While I can’t speak to every aspect of the club; some urinals, toilets, showers are not operational for weeks; all shower soap dispensers are empty at times, towel hooks have fallen off the wall without being replaced for months, at times the jacuzzi, steam room and pool are nonfunctioning for days or longer. Again IMJ, these are not about the City, maintenance or site personnel; this is ownership/management responsibility/accountability…or lack thereof.

The employees here are very rude. My locker malfunctioned and I couldn’t get it open and they assured someone would be right in to help, after I waited for over 20 minutes I went back to the desk to politely ask what was up and the dude who was sitting at the counter doing nothing literally laughed in my face, I guess it’s funny to waste nearly a half hour of your customer's time. He then slowly walked to the locker room with a smug look, didn't apologize or anything. Can’t believe how expensive this place is for how rude the employees are, feel so disrespected. The only reason to even go here is because of the sauna, if you don't care about that you'd be better off at literally any other gym

The only decent 24 hour gym in KC metro. Equipment old and relatively recent are intermixed. Upstairs cardio with plenty of treadmills, ellipticals, some bikes, rowing machines, and a climber. I only wish they were 24/7 (they close early on weekends).

After several days of observation the trainers really need to pay attention to their clients and stand up and be professional. I recommend trying elsewhere. Just being honest! These people spend a lot of money for this service. I heard there is a great place at Gregory and Wornall just 1 block east.

Ehh. It's in a good location, central Kansas City area. It's clean. Haven't been here in 5 years and no new equipment added, the cable accessories are so old. Any new or updated gym has MAG handles, this place still has the metal bars that came with it when they bought it from 24 Hour Fitness like 9 years ago. Could use some upgrades for sure.

We've had a family pass that pays for 8 of us for a long time. Today a customer service representative decided to stop us and check on the validity of the membership. This has happened before but they always find it valid. Today the rep arrogantly stated "this is a private gym". ( Yea bud, a private gym we pay for a membership to)-- and for whatever reason, didn't want to let us all in. He went as far as to change the drop down box on the account page(my friend saw him do this) from 8 persons to 5 when the membership has been paying for 8. I was going to give 1 star but other than this guys antics the gym has been decent.

This location could use equipment upgrade. There’s a lot of old equipment and for the membership prices we pay we should be able to have access to way better equipment. I don’t blame employees for this but the weights being left EVERYWHERE but where they belong. The staff are NOT your maids so put your weights BACK after you use them!!! It’ll be 5 AM and the gym looks a mess because fellow gym members refuse to put items back where they belong!! It’s not fair an older woman or man has to remove very heavy weights from the machines cause you were too lazy smfh Main reason I stop going to this location a couple of weeks ago. It’s just too dirty and some of that is on gym members!!!

We love this gym! We are so grateful they offer kids club/childcare Saturday and Sunday mornings (plus weekdays if you need) so we can come more often. The kids club teachers are amazing and the staff is super helpful. I love the facilities and the availability. Thank you so much for having the kids club open so the parents of young kiddos like us can get to the gym regularly!

Went in December 5th to workout with a friend and just wanted to get a day pass for twenty. I was told by Justin that a monthly membership is 60 and would be a better deal even if I only came a few extra times. I asked about the starting fee and was told there were none. Fast forward to my second month and I've been charged three separate times for 79 dollars. I have gone in person and called THREE different times but cannot get a straight answer on what the charges are for. I should have known better since this is Genesis and no matter what city, they operate the same way. Give your money to another Gym that does not use horrible practices to lure people into memberships.

Make you wear a face mask while running on a treadmill in a secluded corner. Your money is better spent at a gym that isn’t unnecessarily dramatic.

My experience with Genesis has been the single worst experience I have ever had with a corporate company. These crooks ended up taking over $1,200 from me after I tried on two different occasions to cancel my membership... after i formally canceled my membership on the second time, they continued to bill me for 14 months citing that my signature on my cancelation contract was "illegible". However, they never even attempted to contact me about said "illegible" signature. I was told that I would be contacted by a regional manager.. and have yet to hear anything. I am not the type of person to write reviews on companies, but this experience was so outrageously crooked I CANNOT EXPRESS it enough, DO NOT GET A MEMBERSHIP HERE.

I have a membership at genesis but not after today. I tried to add my girlfriend to my membership and the lady was insanely rude to us and then instantly called the manager Will over to tell us to get out. I just felt like I was bothering them by trying to give them money. It is also INSANELY expensive at $60 a month with sign up fees. I called port KC right after and they were much better and much cheaper. None of my friends ever had genesis memberships and now I know why. Goodbye.

This location needs to do a thorough review of their manager or finance specialist and see where all the money’s going. Charging $80 a month to a few hundred people and 0/8 of the mens showers work. Either someone’s pocketing the money or this location is very cheap. Take care of your people that are paying your bills and making sure you have a paycheck smh. If you want a new manager or financial specialist get in contact. There should be some accountability

Was told membership was $75.00 then when Bill came out of account they charged me $90.00 called said we wanted to cancel the gentleman said he was there until 10pm here it's 9:50 pm he was gone then found out as well u can't cancel the membership unless it's between 8am -8pm he didn't even say that so don't come to this place they just screw you and lie about there prices . Don't get me wrong yes gym is nice but there customer service is horrible

Denzel club manager helped me out getting a day pass and I was able to check out the facility for a day. The facility was nice and had plenty of great working equipment. Would definitely recommend the facility. Management was helpful and friendly.

Genesis is great. But the location on Ward parkway is only a great as it is because of the Queen Lisa that runs that place! She keeps it in tip top shape, encourages everyone that walks through those doors, and makes the gym so fun!! I love this gym and the friends Ive made there! The pool is kinda sketch though.

Genesis on ward parkway has an great facility with all the equipment, weights, and personal training one could ask for. They even have a small pool for those looking for a swim. I do however, have to warn those that rely on free weights, and equipment that utilizes free weights that they are in short supply. Waiting in line to use a squat rack and the general lack of 10 lb weights really dampen the experience and create unnecessary frustration.

We was really enjoying this location specially because this place have a kids space, but unfortunately my autistic child now is unwelcome and my husband decides never come back. I'm not sure what happened but I really feel unnecessary and uncomfortable someone say maybe will create a new policies just because my child was there. I known about two occurrences evolved my child but I think when have more than five kids playing in this area they need one more adult to watching the kids and avoid fights or meltdowns or whatever. So it's mean I don't will renew my subscription because if my child can't stay so my whole family can't too. About machines and weight area is a little old but everything works but have some people that I really wish know what a special price they pay to rental exclusively a machine because sometimes nobody was in the machine but you will start your workout and this people appears and said I'm using this machine. How? This is magic. Great stuff except one or another but overall is great. It was great experience but unfortunately we stop this sooner than I expected.

Clean, big and beautiful gym - I visited from California, and this is nicer than the equinox I go to back home. Wish they had this gym in San Francisco and the club manager Tyler was so nice!!

I’m considering staying in Kansas City after many years out west . Finding a Club is important and the club advertises 3 day pass . So I called one in Overland Park and the young gal who answered the phone basically said “ our club is so nice we only do a 1 day pass “ . I called Merriam at ward parkway . She was Awesome on the phone and in person. I liked the layout of the club and if I stay I’ll join . I ended up going to the “ Nice One “ in Overland Park and it was fine . The best part of my experience was Merriam or merril . I hope I’m close to spelling her name . I really want her to get credit for a 5 star review . Thanks young lady , you will do well .

They will keep calling you multiple days in a row every single month to join their gym. Never give them your real phone number or this will also happen to you. You can ask them to stop calling and they'll say they'll stop but they really won't. These guys are desperate, annoying, and liars. I recommend you stay far away (don't even tour because they'll ask for your number and call you nonstop if you don't join).

Though this gym isn’t the closest to me, I prefer this gym over nearby gyms due to the staff and the environment provided. No matter the time of day, I feel comfortable working out, and this is also true no matter who is working out next to me. The upstairs cardio area is clean and a machine is always available, and the downstairs (strength training) area has plenty of machines and weights to choose from. This location is worth the drive and coming here makes workout out enjoyable!

Marshall is great as a personal trainer! Nice encouragement and guidance in getting an older body strong to continue an active life. Club staff is also welcoming as are fellow members. Clean and well kept!

This is a great gym. It has all of the equipment a person could desire. There seems to always be multiple group classes going and the staff are friendly and happy to help. David at the front desk was very helpful today and Darcy, the club manager is quick to answer questions or help in any way.

Its a great gym, lots of work out equipment They are not very good at enforcing the mask mandate. Disappointing

Ok gym, been going here for years. Back when it was 24 hours gym. Only issue l I have is the staff, I was working out one day and one of the staff literally yelled at a member for working out, I though that member was doing something outrageous but all that member was doing was working out. That isn’t how you talk to any adult especially someone who is a member. That almost made me cancel my membership altogether because that can ruin someone workout. People come here to de stress not add stress and get yelled at! Secondly I heard theft might happen here also, I hope that isn’t true because that WILL make me cancel. I will gladly go to Woodside which has everything plus more. Other than that gym is decent. The people that do there are nice.

I would not go here if it wasn't the closest gym to me. The AC system isn't able to handle the heat in the summer. Over crowded and over priced. Genesis markets itself as a "high end" gym. This may be true for other locations, but this locations always has dirty men's bathrooms, there are always puddles of urine by the urinals. Dirt/rust comes off on the rags you'll use to clean barbells. About 15% of the equipment is in disrepair or broken. They have two water fountains, but one has been broken for two months now. Clientele typically keep to them selves, but there seems to be a trend of people speaking overly loud on their airpods or with work out partners, typically the ones who are there for more than general fitness.

I walked into Genesis today, hoping for an affordable member rate and was greeted by Tyler. We had great conversation about my fitness goals and expectations, as well as great tools and recommendations of his own. After my tour I decided to go on and invest in my health. Thank you, Tyler, for a first great impression and for your encouragement.
