Arrived early to get lunch at the cafeteria with my fiancé. The food wasn't good and it wasn't cheap. I expected more for the men and women who served our country. Took my fiance to the emergency room a few years ago and the nurse was rude. Let the IV tubing drag on the dirty floor then connected it to the patient IV access. Disgusting. Drew blood and let it sit on a side table for awhile.

Poor utilization of resources… While I am generally satisfied with the VA services I receive, scheduling is less than satisfactory… At my routine dental check up, I was scheduled to return for a cavity. I have repeatedly asked that my appointments be coordinated to save me trips but it never seems to happen; Round-trip for me takes three hours and someone to accompany me; that’s 6 man hours (not to mention the wear and tear on my vehicle) for a procedure that ultimately took only 10 minutes (from the time I walked in until the time I walked out) When asked why this could not have been done at the time of my check up, I was told they didn’t have the materials needed. Seriously a dental clinic without materials to do a small filling? And why was It not coordinated with my next cleaning appointment? Total lack of consideration for my resources. Update Last year my check up was changed to annually instead of every six months… This visit they finally got my appointments coordinated And it’s been changed back to six month check ups. So I’m out of the store…

Just got held in a suicide cell for 4 hours against my will. All possessions confiscated, including phone and clothes. All because I came in looking for an ambien for my insomnia. I made no threats of suicide, all I said yes to was wanting to go to sleep and not wake up, fyi that does not warrant a lock-up. Came in with chills and sweats and insomnia from withdrawal, and was locked up for 4 hours in a freezing cold suicide cell, GUARDED by a nurse and 2 COPS! Then the warden-shrink on duty came and finally released me. And guess what, they didn't prescribe me anything! Nothing! They gave me a one-page suicide printout! Shame on you!! Watch out for the ER admission nurse named LAUREN, she will lock you up in the suicide cell just for fun. This hospital participates in Veteran Suicide Encouragement. The VA police station is right at the main entrance, and it's bigger than the actual ER. You know a hospital is abusing people when they need an entire police STATION to guard them from the patients they mistreat and abuse. VA stands for Veteran Apathy in other states, here it stands for Veteran Animosity.

You’re telling me it takes an hour to put 20 pills in a bottle and slap my name on it. In that amount of time I went to the honor annex, was seen by a dr and diagnosed with my issue. Drove from honor to the va hospital and signed in to wait to pick up my prescription. You all have some stuff to fix. Unacceptable

The after hrs pharmacy is a joke. Sat and waited over 45 mins for a script. I was the only patient in said waiting room. I walked up to the window for the first time in that 45 min to ask how much longer and some short bald nerd comes out hot with excuses, rude as Iv ever seen and I come to the va often. The staff here are about as good as the medical care….

I went in for back pain and was admitted for kidney stones and UTI. I now have a stint and am waiting on it to come out so that they can work on the kidney stones later since they are 7mm. The entire process was enjoyable, if you will. Everyone was super friendly and super helpful. I want to recognize my night nurse for awesomely taking care of me and great bedside care.

It depends on who's in office. When the democrats rule the building is improved but staff seems to get cut. When the Republicans rule, patients have the best treatment and more staff is hired. The KC VA seems to stay balanced for the most part.

last year I was scheduled for a surgery. I get to a bed, get hooked up, they took blood, anesthesiologist walks in and briefs me, then a doctor walks in and say I’m going under soon. 2 minutes before the nurse gets ready to wheel me back, they find out they don’t have the supplies to perform the surgery. I was there for 3 hours before they new they did not have the supplies. I question the level of competency this VA has. I was sent home with a “sorry.” Not only that I was not contacted back when they eventually received the supplies. It took 8 months for me to finally get the surgery. Gotta love the VA.

Completely incompetent. I went in for treatment for a smashed hand. No one touched my hand. They diagnosed me with a sprained wrist and offered ibuprofen which I refused. There was nothing wrong woth my wrist. They shipped medicine to an old address in another state and charged me a copay. I disputed it. They sent the copay to collections. I disputed it in writing. They had my tax return garnished for 10 times the copay for the medicine I didn't want and never received. The federal finance thugs say I can only resolve it with these yahoos. The pharmacy says I received the medicine and tells me to call billing. Billing tells me to call the pharmacy. Outright theft on top of malpractice, and there's nothing I can do about it. Lawyers won't help, because there's no dollar signs in justice. Dear Russia, strike here first!

I used to go to a different VA but moved to KC. I never understood why people complained about the VA because at the last place I went I never had a problem. Now that I’ve been going to the KC VA I see why people say the VA is garbage. This place is awful and the people that work there are completely incompetent.

There are two kinds of people that work here. Those that are smart, kind, thoughtful, and passionate.. And those that aren't. Sadly the former are vastly outnumbered by the latter. With the exception of a select few people, dealing with the VA is not worth it. Maybe if they spent more money and time on staffing and vetting instead of vain remodels the care would be different.

As a traveling veteran I learned the hard way do not stop here for help or to refill a prescription. Rude and argumentive. Horrible experience. I didn't get what I needed and had to yell at them to give me a partial refill.

Have been trying to switch providers for months now due to the original provider showing no interest in providing relevant care. Never knew my medical history, couldn't keep medications straight and would order incorrect dosing, and many other incidents. I finally get assigned to a new provider and was supposed to have my first appointment with her 9/13. Guess what? She's retiring, the VA has known for awhile, and they still assigned her as my new provider. Not only that, but she was unable to get her computer working and refused to provide care. Didn't come in the room once or speak with me, made no attempt at paper charting, and nobody told me what was going on for 40mins. To top it all off, Rob the patient advocate repeatedly told me if I wanted primary care then I need to be proactive and pay for private insurance. The KCVA is okay with telling veterans that they cannot provide primary care services for disabled veterans. Why is this acceptable?

Took my Dad to the Emergency Room. He's absolutely hates hospitals. They were so wonderful here! It was a great experience. The doctor had my Dad cracking up, everything moved at a fast pace, everyone was friendly. It was incredible. Got my Dad feeling a lot better about getting care.

I went in to pick up some meds this morning and saw this poster by the front door. Every time I come to the VA I see something that makes me proud to have their support. Thanks for all that you do for us!

What is it about VAs and their poor treatment of employees? That is the number one reason they can't keep decent, hardworking employees. Administrators refuse to work with staff. I recently requested accommodations that would have absolutely no effect on the program or other employees, due to a need to care for an ill family member, and the supervisor flat out refused. Like coming in 30 minutes later and leaving 30 minutes later would make a big difference. So I will keep looking for another job and leave this one without notice. They don't deserve notice.

Parking can be rough at times and the elevators are always a bit iffy, but the staff are excellent. I've never been in a hospital where everyone is so friendly. Everyone is smiling and saying hi. Employees don't just give vague directions to an office, but will actually walk you to where you need to go. It's quite obvious everyone cares deeply about veterans and works hard to meet the needs of vets and their families. If parking was a bit easier and the elevators weren't so scary, this would be a 5 star facility.

Prescription refill late/not refilled at all on MANY MANY MANY occasions. Problem is with the doctors not the pharmacy. I call in my prescription, and the doc has to approve it but often times my refill request gets completely over looked. Which means I go with out my medication and have to call repeatedly and deal with rude receptionists to get them to approve the refill. Unacceptable and unsatisfactory.

There is a reason the VA has a bad reputation. They worked hard and earned it. Each department has a standard "it's not us" play list. They don't care and they're incompetent. I've been trying for months to figure out what is causing an issue. Each time I have to start over with a primary, she's surprised that I have the issue I've discussed 20 times with her. There is equally a reason veteran suicide is so high. There's no mental health available at the VA. They are so sure that all of us are drug addicts and are only trying to get drugs. If that were the case, it would be a whole lot easier to get them in a dark alley.

Inadequate, healthcare, zero accountability, a complete waste of time. Paying out-of-pocket now for healthcare. Left numerous messages, requesting a sit down with the Veterans Experian’s office or a patient advocate of some sort with no calls back. These people make me sick.

I recently was in the Emergency room and SICU. The staff, all of them, were super nice, love veterans and even if they are having a tough day, don’t take it out on the patient and I even heard some of them singing. Now, when I moved to a room some of the staff were friendly and some were not so; certainly not jovial. This is the reason I didn’t give it a 5 star rating. Such a huge difference.

I hear really bad things about VA hospitals, but they exceeded my expectations when I went there to discuss a family member. It’s a large hospital, but everyone was helpful. Very impressed!

I had an emergency, was transferred there in the middle of the morning.I was in the MICU for 4days with the best care anybody could get, by far. From the care team of five doctors, then you have the other half that is the Nurses who were so kind and helpful to me and my family. But also the others came in they all were Great. They all went far and beyond with the care they gave me. Everyone in that Hospital deserves aa big thank you

The KC VA Dental Clinic over the past two months, to include this morning, has went beyond surpassing my expectations and has demonstrated an extraordinary level of skill and concern at a time where I require substantial specialized dental care. The entire staff is to be commended, but in particular Dr. Sams and Dr. Vanblarcom (they arranged for me to have a procedure performed off-site at a private provider, and coordinated for immediate - same morning - follow-up care to provide me with a temporary dental prosthetic device). Truly appreciate these dedicated professionals.

Spent weeks trying to get my guts up to go in then ER doctor runs me off before they could even check me out. Now I have nowhere to turn. I know now why so many vets make that choice. Thanks for nothing VA. Everyone else was grear.

The pharmacy is never a fast experience. Even when picking up a pre made shot. They verified it was in stock and still made me wait over an hour and 20 minutes. It shouldn’t take an hour to grab it out of the fridge and bag it.

  • 1/5 Nicholas B. 1 year ago on Google
Short staffed. Waiting lines are worse than actually being in the military. You are more likely to die in the waiting room than be seen by a doctor within a reasonable amount of hours.

The staff at the VA are almost always nice & helpful, but anyone who deals with any part of the VA knows they are absurdly underfunded and in many ways that tends to show also no matter how hard the doctors and other people working there try.

My father had a serious illness and we brought him to the ER for treatment. They immediately received him and got him into a room during the week, mid-morning. The level of care was excellent in the ER. He transitioned into the main hospital in a room for the remainder of his stay on the 8th floor. I would like to recognize April, Jessica, Oliseka, Flo, James, and several other RN's who tended to his care. Their dedication and care was just outstanding. Also, Dr. Lanka, Dr. Carlson, and Dr. Moyer, provided excellent care and informed us along the way as to his progress. Thanks to Chaplain Dan too. Our social worker, Lisa, was very helpful in getting us setup with post-hospital care. The staff is conscientious about a clean room and clean practices in their care, as well. Hospital food is hospital food, but I will say that the pot roast and mashed potatoes and gravy and carrots got a nice review by my father. I can't say enough good things about the VA hospital and their level of care for our veterans.

I was scheduled for a VA Video appointment at 2 pm today. I was on line with the nurse waiting for primary to come on and then I was told she was having difficultly connecting. After many calls from me to VA Kansas City Medical Center I wasn’t able to successfully contact with anyone who could help me. I have waited one month to speak with them because I having trouble falling backwards injuring back and shoulder. Last week I fell again. At 4 pm I went down to eat dinner served at me independent living facility. Returning after dinner I had NO messages or email fallow up messages. I can’t believe the lack of medical care are NO RESPONSE FROM THE PRIMARY

The lack of transparency here is scary , the lack of accountability is sad , do not come to this hospital if you can not or do not have someone to advocate for you. Worst experience, it’s truly been a nightmare. My father came in walking on two feet and is leaving out on one. His life will not ever be the same.
