The worst emergency room check EVER. The check in/triage nurses were the rudest. Upon entering she asked what my symptoms were then immediately looked at my husband and “You can’t be in here you have to go! We’ll let the doctor decide if they want him to come in” Then I asked why she had to be so rude, she then rolled her eyes called the triage nurse saying “Can you come out here cause I’m not” the triage nurse comes out only to be rude as well rolled her eyes and said “Don’t do that!” I then had to let them know I not only worked at the hospital in still a patient there and their attitudes were completely uncalled for. And while rolling her eyes the check in nurse goes “You started the attitude.” As if she wanted to continue to go back and forth and as if she wasn’t rude about the entire situation. Only for the doctor to ask to have my husband called back in. After the front desk “ladies” things went really smooth. The nurse that made sure I was ok who helped with my lab work, test and discharge was nothing short of awesome. I appreciate her. When your sick the last thing you want to do is argue with a nurse! I’m so glad she made sure I was ok.

The doctor was dismissive and belittling, I thought doctors were supposed to care about ethics. Part way through my stay I had to use the bathroom, I used my call button but no one came. I went into the hall to ask directions to the bathroom but everyone ignored me, it was like I didn’t exist to them. I went in search of a restroom and accidentally locked myself out of the patient wing, I pressed a button on the wall to call for assistance but again, no one came. I wandered through the hospital looking for an exit, however several fire exits were locked. I eventually found my way out and walked around to the reception area. This wouldn’t have happened if the staff cared about their patients. DO NOT GO TO THIS HOSPITAL IF YOU WANT TO SURVIVE!

If I could give this hospital zero stars, I would. I was a patient of theirs and had a decent experience with a new PCP. The problem isn't the medical team, it is their billing, their input, and their ER staff. My mom was visiting me here in Kansas City and had chest pains. I took her to the emergency room. The intake person was asking me questions and I told her REPEATEDLY that I am a current patient and our names are similar but my mom had never been there before. Because I am familiar with EMR systems, I made sure to explain this so there would be no problems. I found out later they had, indeed, merged our records. This is a huge problem on so many levels. Now it shows I take medicine I don't take, it shows she takes medicine she doesn't take. When I tried to get a copy of her medical records for her to take back home they originally refused them because it contained information for us both. We had to BOTH sign the HIPAA release form. By us both signing it, they acknowledge there is a problem but yet they refuse to fix it. Now the ER experience.....my mom is over 80 years old and they didn't even give her a pillow for HOURS! They kept saying there was a shortage on pillows and one was coming. An 80+ year old, in the hospital for chest pains, and NO PILLOW. Are you kidding me? It was so bad one of my friends offered to bring us one! Another complaint is we asked for assistance for her for a personal reason and they continued to ignore the request for hours. We arrived before 7am at the ER, they admitted her after 4pm. She is on multiple medications and not once, during the time there, did they see about her getting her medicine or offer her anything to eat or drink. The testing team were great. They were compassionate and patient with her. I need to preface all of this happened over a year ago, I have been giving them plenty of time to correct the account issues. I say this so it is clear this experience was not during any Covid time or any health pandemic time when you might expect a longer delay. My last complaint is their billing team. I have reached out to them numerous times asking them to correct the errors of the accounts because I had a balance from an emergency visit myself. I wanted to get it all cleaned up, I just requested they correct the accounts first so there is a clear explanation of what is mine and what is my mom's. I do not think that is asking too much. A supervisor talked to me and said they would correct it AND remove the balance owed for all of the problems. (The balance wasn't a high balance, but it was a balance) Tell me why I am still dealing with this over a year later and it is in collections so it is affecting my credit score. St Joseph hospital admin does not care about their patients or proper handling of information. Some of their staff is great. It is too bad they are stuck in a horrible business model.

I have a lot of love for this hospital, I had 2 children born there. Unfortunately, it is not the same hospital. The maternity ward was taken out years ago. That is not the only change. The people the desk in the emergency entrance were incompetent. Unable to find patient rooms, no one was able to find my wife. Beyond being incompetent, they were surly. The hospital was NOT busy. There was only 1 person in the waiting room. Security was professional and helpful and seemed to be the only people who knew what was going on. When we finally got to my wife's room. I found out her nurse had been on shift for 2 hours and hadn't been in to see my wife. When he finally came in he was completely without compassion to her vomiting.

For me this is the No. 1 Hospital in Kansas City for emergencies based in my experience after my last medical assistance. I strongly recommend! The highlighted service attitude I have ever seen before, very welcoming, professional and accurate. A huge gratitude from the bottom of my heart to all Doctors and Nurses who treated me last Sunday afternoon, you all made me feel an important person. May you all be blessed richly

I haven’t been here in about 4years! But I was in and out as soon as possible! I got there and was in a room being taken care of in about 10 minutes maybe less than that! I couldn’t breathe so in might have just seem like a longer time to me! But they got me taking care of! Doing multiple text till they figured it out but they had it as soon as the doctor listened to my lungs, and asked about chest pain! But had to do other test to make sure it wasn’t the flu or Covid and I thank them for taking care of my and being able to fix me up!!

Don’t go here!! Incompetence on every level right up to the ER physician. While waiting for my son to be “treated” if you can call it that, I witnessed many things that were unprofessional and weird—like telling a family member that they gave her loved one “blood sugar” and she was doing better. Blood sugar?!!? Did you mean glucose?? Ha ha. On top of everything else was rude treatment. If you want quality ER care go elsewhere, if you want a CIRCUS of poorly trained individuals go to St Joe 😂

Incompetence is How I explain it. I’ve seen where my wife was there for a Nuclear stress test, the tech. Had no idea what she was doing. So my wife didn’t get the test results for weeks, or until her doctor called and ask for them. They gave the wrong test. Retest different hospital. 100% blockage in one artery. Could have lost her, not to mention the pain and stress wondering what was the matter with her. A new test, three months later. Different place. Found problem Immediately. Had stent in same day.

Was a terrible experience. Showed up with dealing with quinsy, explained to them symptoms, and what I had done for it (popped abscess, cleaned tonsil stones out of it) . Some ignorant nurse comes in to look and says she doesn’t see an abscess or tonsil stones even though I informed her I cleaned it. After blood work, and ct scan she shows up with strep test. I told her unless it’s free I don’t want it. So they bullied me into taking it, and when it came back negative she didn’t have the backbone to come tell me I was right. They do not listen to the patient and are to ignorant to follow logic. She FELT, it could be something else even though logic didn’t point to something else. I seriously believe these nurses picked their degrees up from a McDonald’s happy meal, because I could do their job better with a library card and simple common sense.

I had just had a HORRIBLE ER visit at a hospital in the Plaza but have a condition that required me to go back to an ER so I chose St. Jo even though my PCP is not here. The staff was caring, helpful, informative and made me having to spend a day in the ER not end in frustration. This is the only ER I will utilize in the future.

My mother has been at St Joseph's for a little over a week. She will be discharge in 2 days. She was finally treated for an underlying infection that was taking her life. St. Joseph physicians indentified the problem and continue to treat her with continued improvement. The doctors, nurses, and even the gentleman who cleaned her room were wonderful. I am so grateful to them. I highly recommend this hospital, their team approach and over all compassion T hank you!!

I would not set foot in this building again if my life depended on it. I have been going to the pain clinic there for 15 years. In 2020 they decided that now every visit to get a simple medication refill is "outpatient" and will charge $1,000's of dollars per visit in addition to your regular co-pay. They will screw you over and dig deep in your pockets for every single penny you own. It is completely immoral, unethical, and disgusting. Now I am forced to leave the doctor who has been treating me for years because I cannot afford to step foot in the building due to it being "outpatient". St. Joesph Medical Center is a disgrace.

Nursing and Therapy staff even the Dietary service were very kind. And Efficient on 4th floor. I had excellent care when I had my babies here. Now my eldererly mother is here. She had an internist pulmonologist and geriatric staff. Friendly nursing students too. Which as a nurse ..I really appreciate that. Abi did a n awesome job teaching. The glucose meter and Iv antibiotic infusion to a caring nursing student from local college. The kind discharge planner worked well with our family and Retirement home and medical staff in planning the discharge..😊

It's not a 5 star hospital that's for sure. The staff are rude, and when u push the call button it takes them 10 to 15 minutes to get to ya. And they say there busy but that's a lie cause there on there phones. I wouldn't recommend this hospital

Went into the ER last night with severe back pain from a UTI. The lady who checked me in was so friendly and warm, genuinely just radiated good vibes. My nurse tonight was so sweet and attentive and thanked me a few times for being patient while they dealt with ACTUAL emergencies. The doctor was thorough, quick and to the point while still being friendly and just altogether lovely. The medicine he gave me took me from a 7 in pain to almost nothing, after 3 days of agony. Not a single person I encountered had an attitude or showed signs of wanting to be anywhere else but there. (Which honestly, I wouldn't blame them if they did. They had a long night and it was getting late by the time I got there.) I hope they know how much their friendliness and hospitality helped me, and I'm sure others, have a better experience. I should also note that when I mentioned I was going to try to sleep they turned my lights off, made sure my call button was accessible and then didn't bother me until they absolutely had to, which I appreciated more than they will ever know. Like I said, it was late. I'm not sure what my nurses name was but she was a sweet older lady with such a calming voice and I just loved her to bits. The staff is excellent and the care is quality. Waaaaaaaay better than belton er, which is closer to me. The ER night shift honestly deserve high praise and a raise, a bonus, something. I hope they see this and know it's about them! Thank you so much for making a bad situation better.

Dear god don't go here, especially if you're suicidal. I sat on a bed for over 26+ hours waiting to be placed but since they couldn't find somewhere, they discharged me. The staff acted so tired of dealing with me. At one point the charge nurse asked me if i had 'changed my mind' on being suicidal. I don't know how places like this stay open. No wonder the reviews are so low.

My daughter came here 17 weeks pregnant vomiting blood they could not find the babies heartbeat! She was completely distressed and they refused to let me go to get a sonogram with her! They are completely incompetent and have no OB services after almost 2 hours and she was received no care and never even seen a doctor! The nurse practitioner was rude and threatening regarding leaving AMA to go to a real gospel get her help.

Not a hospital I would go back to. Very outdated in everything. Dr was competent but left the impression too busy to talk to you and explain everything. Breezed in and out. Sent my dad there for cardiac issues. Won't go back there.

Until going to st joes breast center I though all mammography places were pleasant and about the same. De Lisa was my nurse and I ended up having to get a biopsy. She was empathetic meeting me right where I was mentally. Thoughtful and caring ++!

I witnessed them violate a patients HIPPA rights and basically unwelcome the patient due to the patient being honest about their condition and the Judgemental jerk of a male nurse started loudly blasting his condition in front of a woman and a small child. Avoid this place if you are an honest patient in need of help. Hmm Maybe because no insurance too. Fake religious organizations pretending to help only when profitable.

The staff at cardiac rehab is exceptional. They are all professional, compassionate, caring, and do an excellent job. It is difficult to single out any one of the staff because they are all so good and treat the patients with respect in working with each patient's needs.

I left a review that seems to have been removed but I received horrible treatment in the ER and was disrespected and ignored. I’m seeing my pcp soon for the same thing almost a year later and once I find a decent doctor who isn’t a pompous under educated clown who can’t provide treatment, I will be consulting with a lawyer in regards to suing you for medical malpractice as I was let go without any treatment and verifiably misdiagnosed. 2020+ isn’t an excuse to throw accountability out the window. I’d encourage everyone else that was misdiagnosed or not provided adequate treatment to do the same, it’s time we get some decent medical treatment.

Teresa Ficken, RNP is absolutely amazing. After not wearing my wedding rings for 2 years I put them back on last night. This morning I woke up with my entire finger swollen and throbbing. Teresa worked very hard using a wrapping technique to reduce swelling and then slowly twisting the rings off. I doubted it would work because my finger was severly swollen but she was persistent and didn't want to ruin my rings by cutting them off. It took her about 5 min per ring but she did it. She was so caring and understanding. Excellent bedside manner. I arrived in the ER at 10:38am and departed at around 11:45am. Everything went smoothly. Great job Teresa and St Joe.

Not a good experience at all. Fiancé came here for chest pain, sob, and muscle pain. Got to ER around 9 am doctor thought he may have had a heart attack. Did a EKG , said he didn’t think it was a full blown heart attack but could possibly be the beginning stages of one. Said that more test needed to be completed and that he would be inpatient. Dr said he was ordering a c-stress test along with an echocardiogram, and a scan for his back. 1st off none of the nurses seem to know anything other than he was being admitted for a c-stress the next day. When I asked about the other tests I was told at first they didn’t see them. Then they came back and said she did see a scan. Asked if anything would be done today seeing as we have already now been here over 7 hours. All we kept being told is that they weren’t sure the hospital was full. So now here we are day 2 still sitting in the ER not to mention every nurse we see we have to reintroduce this patient and his reason for visit. Are they not communicating or what?? Finally saw a tech for the stress test but still no word on the scan of his back. Needless to say we will not be back and will advise anyone we know not to come either.

Recently had to use their telemedicine services and I found out what everyone has been raving about. It was very quick, personable and I was able to actually "see" a physician and treated quickly. I cannot recommend this service enough to anyone: especially during these unprecedented times. Great job St Joe for having added these services!

I was there for almost a week. Was treated for the wrong thing the entire time I was there. Racked up thousands of dollars of hospital bills for things I did not need as told to me by another reputable hospital. Nursing staff was great but Dr's and administrators don't know their up from down.

I had family in the inpatient psych unit for 8 days. The nurses/staff were phenomenal. Truly the most patient and hardworking angels I have ever encountered. Nurses were called derogatory names and belittled by the patients daily. In return the staff consistently gave top quality care in spite of the the disrespect. I visited every day and saw many of the same nurses/staff every single time. They worked nonstop. My issue was with the discharge process. I was told my loved one was not able to sign any legal paperwork (MPOA) because she was not of sound mind. Conversely, the hospital would not give me any medical information without her consent. My loved one was sent home completely incontinent without any medical supplies or warning. When I called to inquire, I was told to take her to the ER if I had any health concerns.

This was my 1st surgery at St. Joseph Hospital. Everyone that I encountered was extremely pleasant and made me feel comfortable, from registration to discharge. When waking up from surgery in the PACU, I was very disoriented. I awoke to the most caring nurse that I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. Janine was very attentive to my needs and made sure that I was comfortable throughout the remainder of my time, leading up to discharge. I want to say Thank you to the entire staff of nurses and doctors, every single one of you were incredible. I would definitely recommend this hospital to anyone.

From the ER triage nurse through a 5 day stay, every staff member I met was amazing! Nurses, aids, techs and Drs. from multiple departments; all kind, all patient. To my surprise the Dr's. often spoke very highly of other Dr's I saw and were obviously comfortable with and confident in their staff members. I didn't want to be there. And it really felt like they knew that and made it as painless and pleasant as possible!

Headed to ER after being released the previous day after by-pass surgery, had concerns about 2 leakages and didn’t want to risk infections. Saw Dr Freeman and was reassured had done the right thing. Did some X-rays and labs determined no infections. Dr redressed concerned areas. Explained to wife how we needed to do this each day until visit with Dr Forman. Everyone we encountered at ER was courteous and professional . Thanks to all

What made me go to St. Joseph ER is be cause when my mom got sick a couple of months ago the way their team took care of her was excellent! Yesterday I had to go for pain in my shoulder and the service by everyone including the doctors was professional and excellent! I have lived in KC for 5 years and had never heard anyone talk about St. Joseph. I thank God that the EMT that transported my mom to the hospital that day recommended them because I was trying to send her some else where most of the Kansasians talk about. I have a follow up with the orthopedic already! Thank you St. Joseph healthcare team!

The ER staff immediately got me an emergency room and within seconds the ER staff had me undressed and put me into the bed. The nurse immediately started taking my vitals and got me hooked up to a heart monitor. Immediately after that the ER doctor came in and examined me, really listening to my concerns. Tests were ordered to achieve an accurate diagnosis. After everything was ruled out, a diagnosis was determined. I was very happy with the care and service I received. My brother and my sons were very impressed. Thank you for the excellent care I received!!

The ER department is awesome. I’ve had to go there with family members twice in the past week and both times they have been caring, quick and helpful. The process of getting a mammogram is wonderful. I have done this at St. Joseph for many years. In and out without a hitch. This time, the registration was not user friendly. We have been so happy at SJMC, each time we visit Doctor Park. His nurse Renae is a wonderful Nurse and is excellent. My husband was admitted in 2017 and has continued since that time, usually twice each year. It is worth the long drive to assure my husband has this care.

I had been trying to get to see my primary for three weeks and I ended up going to the ER and had the best nurse ever I wish I knew her name anyway they took blood they wrecked me in for a throat CAT scan with contrast and did all sorts of testing and found out I had mono which was really helpful At least I know what's wrong with me now. I was in and out of there in less than 2 hours. I went at 3:00 in the afternoon I couldn't have asked for better service and a nice or nurse she was also doing intake at the same time all I can say is God bless her for helping me so quickly because I was really freaked out! ♥️🙌

I recently had a procedure at St. Joseph. The nursing staff was very caring and attentive. The respiratory therapist asked my preference for getting some medication before going in to calm my anxiety. I really felt that I was listened to. The surgical staff were very warm and welcoming upon arrive into the OR room. My favorite experience was the radiology staff that I saw at the end. They’re positive attitudes and friendly discussions was a cherry on the top. The only reason I’d subtract a star is for the long registration time!

Care was handled well, Dr. Was very informative. Can't say much from wait time to be seen as I arrived in an ambulance but I was in the room itself for almost 5 hrs, 2hrs after they said they were gonna send me home did I actually get sent home. Only major complaint is the nurses aren't very gentle about much, when she took my IV out she ripped it out in a way that blew out my vein something fierce. other than that they were very helpful.

In our odd visit to ER, we experienced excellent people and caring. I could not figure what really caused my husbands lack of strength. He was not able to walk in , but could walk out..... fluids? In any case, by eve, a daughter hugged him, said he felt warm, I tested and since he was higher than normal, ran a Covid test. He had and I got it two days later, so we have spent the whole week in isolation. Question is: would not all people brought to ER need to have a Covid test at this point in time??? Just a thought. We have been there a few times, really like the ER and had great experience a year ago with your hospitalist. He got to the heart of my husband's withdrawal symptoms, even though it was not alcohol, but sugar (Pepsi addict), he helped me get him back to himself before we left there. Thank you for being there for us and others!!!!

Went into the ER last night after a medication causing an adverse reaction for my heart and causing me tachycardia. I was absolutely terrified, but the staff was extremely caring and kind. A nurse named Maddy was exceptional and made me feel extremely comforted. She was one of the best nurses I’ve ever had. The ER NP, not sure of her name but she was a younger blonde lady, was also exceptionally kind and caring and explained everything to be thoroughly. The only reason I gave 4 stars was the place definitely is dated and could use some updating, and I was in the ER for quite awhile, 7 hours. Other than that I had a great experience with great staff.

My dad was admitted and diagnosed with cancer within just a few hours of being there. We had no clue as he was NEVER sick! Or at least we all thought he wasn't. They are first told us that he had 4 months. I was speechless. What would I do without my best friend? The doctors and the nurses were so good to him while he was there. They became family. The time then changed to 4 to 6 weeks and then 2 weeks. All the way until the end, those amazing doctors and nurses were by ALL of our sides especially his. And that's all that mattered to us. So I would like to say thank you to this incredible hospital for everything they did for him.

This is a great hospital! I used to go to St Mary's in Blue Springs because it was my favorite hospital. I found out St Joseph is basically like a sister hospital of St Mary's. It was closer so I went. The doctors and nurses were amazing. They took great care of me. They were really nice and listened to me as a patient. It's not a hospital that only wants money. They listen to you and take really good care of you.

There Billing department is terrible, my husband had an emergency to see Dr Santiago when we arrived they were waiting on us. We gave the front desk our Ins ID with no questions asked & directed to the doctors office. Come to find out the DR is covered under our insurance but St Joe is not. We did the stress test, and several office visits to the doctor. No one told us St Joes facility was out of network. I've been disputing the charges since May, I paid my 10% of the out of pocket and they still sent it to collections. I called multiple time with no callbacks I've call the billing phone# on the statement and all they can do is take payments. They have noted my account about the disputes but no one at the KCMO billing department has returned my calls since Aug 2022. I have spread the word about St Joe do not go to this hospital. I will continue to dispute this billing. They pay for the doctors visits but charge us basically rent for using the doctors office and nurses. This is Terrible.

Never been so disgusted with doctors in my life I’ve seen 5 doctors all recommended all costing hundreds just to not even take a visual look and claim everything is fine visit last less then 10 minutes while I waited almost 6 (total 8 )months for a exam I got nothing and a 1000$ bill for what I have no money I’m negative spent what a car cost and still living with my severe issues I just want to cry thinking about seeing the doctor again for the same problem knowing everything online says they’d do a scan or mri which was never the case extremely disappointed at the furious level it has been another 6 months and all I get is calls for collecting money for a exam that never really happened can someone please help me or is the ER the only way to be heard

Update: We lost our loved one the day after bringing him here. His PCP here had told him he was fine just 2 weeks before. -Been in the Emergency department for my Father in Law for over 5 hours. We've barely heard any news from the doctor. This hospital is nothing at all like the professional help you get from St. Lukes. I will adamantly advocate against this hospital the next time one of my loved ones needs emergency care. -Second day and now we're in the ICU. Still sitting here for hours not being told anything and unable to visit our loved one.

I will never use the hospital again. I was over charged by $1100+ for services provided on 11/14/22. I've spoken several times to the business office and keep getting the run-around from a staff that could care less. I called again today and heard I might receive a refund by March 20. What a joke.

Every staff member I came in contact with was amazing. They came multiple times to check on me to make sure I was okay and made sure I was comfortable at all times!

I needed stitches on my left thumb on a Sunday morning. I was greeted with compassion and seen as quickly as possible. I was evaluated and received wonderful care in a timely manner. I was in and out in 1 hour and 15 minutes. I would highly recommend those people that cared for me on Sunday, May 21, 2023 at 11am.

I’d never been to St. Joseph Medical Center, but I’d happily go back. I was nervous about my procedure, but the staff was friendly and kind and provided every bit of information I needed to feel at ease. There was ample room for people to wait, everything was spotless, and I never had to look far for someone who could answer my questions. I truly appreciate everyone’s kindness at St. Joseph.

Service at Saint Joseph is excellent, my appointment was at 10:00 am, and I was checked in immediately. Within 5 minutes of setting down in waiting area and seeing doctor shortly after going back Dr. Park was in the room in 15 minutes. I appreciate the respect the office has for my time.

If you are talking about my time in the ER, everyone was very efficient. They had me ready for an EKG as fast as possible. Medicine was quickly administered. After 2 hours I was notified that I didn't have a Heart Attack but that I had an Anxiety Attack. It was brought on waiting 2 1/2 hrs for my son to have a Pace Maker put in only to be told that he couldn't have it today!!! My constant worry that he would go into surgery but not come back out was just too much for me!!! I really like St Joseph Hospital. And don't want to go anywhere else.
