This is the museum. Not the main temple. There is also a way up to the main temple via a shuttle bus for the elderly. Here at the museum, able to see and understand the origin of the Buddha. There are also some eateries/ cafe like Starbucks inside. Do take a look before going up to the temple.

Impressed with the scale of the place. A a huge place. A huge sitting Buddha statue. Several souvenir shops in the place. Some items are very expensive. We were on a group (30 plus foreign students from a local college in Kaohsiung) tour. Experience a tea ceremony ourselves. An orientation lecture. I am fro South Korea. I have never seen this big Buddhist kingdom before. May take several visits to understand the details of the place.

Simply the best for tourism. But might not be good if your religion prohibits you from entering another temple

Nice temple but the hourly Dashu shuttle bus we got here which was very cheap decided it wouldn't show up/was over 20 minutes late for the way back so we had to get a much more expensive shared taxi journey back to a less convenient location.

Was cool to see the colorful buses - one of the ways many visitors come to see the site. I made the trip by automobile with host.

Expected to be there for 2 hours but ended up walking for 4-5 hrs. Very impressive and much to see, could easily spend another couple of hours there. Recommend planning a full to get there from Kaohsiung as the bus also takes some time.

Is it an amusement park? Is it a religious side? Who knows. It’s definitely a great place to visit. The landscape, the architecture and the artefacts are stunning. Everything here is build on a very elevated scale. But considering this is a religious side, I am turned off by quite a few money-making things, such as their “exit through the gift shop” strategies, the tacky animated dolls that poor “blessed” water into cups (of course for a donation!) and the collection of underground temple artefacts (mostly from China) makes me wonder, if this is another British museum…?! Again, all things considered, you should visit.
