On our way from Marina Beach we just stopped to see the birds It's a vast area and since not much water was there we saw few birds here and there. I thing its a lovely place for Bird watchers and Photographers. Since its located on Highway where Major IT Companies are located a long boundary wall can be raised and some areas dedicated to Photographers and Birds watchers. I could see Road expansion in some areas.

Sholinganallur marsh lands have been home for a lot of birds, specially the painted stork and pelicans. It is a pleasant sight for the eyes to see such a huge flock of birds at one place. People come there from far flung places just to watch these birds.

I regularly do bird photography here. It would be good if Govt protects this place from dumping of wastes. There are lots of birds come here during season time.

Dirty place unfortunately! No maintenance by govt to protect the bird species that come here. The water level is kept to avoid flooding but that is not good as hardly 1 foot of water will be there. Now with metro construction going on hardly birds can be seen.

The best place for bird photography. This is also part of pallikarnai marsh land. In the session time only you can see so many birds. In weekends photography groups may contact photo walk here

No proper facility for birding. Developmental activities will slowly clear off this soon from maps unless positive interventions are made to protect it.

People's dumping construction debries and plastics waste. Now metro construction is going to impact the birds. Ola and uber taxes and lorries use this as public toilet and bathing place. Soap and oil and grase pollution is affecting the birds.

Its a Lake on the Shollinganallur Perumbakkam road where you can enjoy the Bird Watching. Lake is dry during summer season. Has a great view for people living in the Lancor East and West apartment.

June 2019: I was really sad when i saw the marsh land as it was dried and surface was cracked and we were unable to see the heron or the crane and other birds as the temperature was touching 40ยฐc. Mid of July 2019: Luckily rain started all over chennai after a long span of 178 days.. The marsh land again filled with water, the herons appeared..ducks came by.. The buffaloes now are having a luxurious time in water.. Overall happiness for the marsh land belongers.

Good place for bird watching. Preferable time is morning 6.00 AM to 7.00 AM. You find minimum of 10 variety of birds. Depends on rainfall birds arrival may vary. You can reach out this place by Bus, four or two wheeler. Requested not to disturb the rehabilitation of place.

  • 2/5 Ananthakrishnan G. 4 years ago on Google
Place is not well maintained. Lot of wastes are dumped into the lake and nearby areas. Located along the main road about 500m from Sholinganallur junction. During day time lot of verities of birds will be there. Comb duck is a unique bird there. The marsh land is under Tamil Nadu forest department. No proper fencing or walls seperating the marsh and footpath, so chances of accidents are high.

One of the best birding hotspots near Chennai. Can see around 50 species in 2 hours (morning or evening). Update: Around 100 species can be seen in 3-4 hours if we explore the entire marshland.

Good place to bird. Perungudi dump yard smell is a turn off. But then, please keep going there, for the birds sake. Considering its prime real estate area.

It's a beautiful place. Has lots of birds from local and distant places. It's a must watch place in Chennai. Especially those who are photography enthusiastic and camera savvy. Can take a slow drive along the road to enjoy the sunrise and sunset.
