The most unique cave conglomerate in Bulgaria ! I am astonished from the scenery . It is not only God's eyes and the cave underneath that makes you feel the power of nature and thoughts they make you understand that we are here on earth just a fraction of time, but Nature is forever so the respect has to be paid. Whatever I write is very weak..has and MUST be visited by nature and Cave lovers ! Five star is not enough for this experience !

One of the best places in Bulgaria, a favourite and loved spot by cavers and climbers. Though now it gets a bit crowded, you can still camp there. Great hikes in the region, including Acho's rock houses. Beautiful!!!

The entrance to the parking area can be easily missed - it is near the stone house and marked with a large wooden signpost. The cave itself is amazing, but don't expect any facilities beyond the friendly and hardworking folks who have stalls on the way to the entrance selling snacks drinks and souvenirs. Great experience and well recommended!

It's just phenomenal. The cave scale is big. You can easily reach it via the asphalt road and 5 minutes walk. There's enough parking space so you don't need get anxious about your car. The God eyes are more stunning when you get right below them. Definitely visit the cave. You'll regret if you miss it. There're a few food stores throughout the good whether.

It is incredible to think that this cave has been inhabited since the Neolithic period / Stone Age. On top of that the God's eye formation is truly magnificent! It is open for visitors and no tickets are required. The terrain is not difficult. The entrance seems to be a popular spot among climbers.

Amazing experience, but we had to walk and for elderly it will be a bit difficult going down to the cave. Nature will always amaze me everyday. Look up to see God's eyes

The Prohodna cave is free to enter and can be seen in a day trip from Sofia, it's near Sopot on the road to Ruse. Also, closer to Sofia, there is Saeva Dupka cave, head towards Brestnitsa and it’s signposted from the centre of the town. Both can be seen in a day trip from Sofia. If you are interested in some more natural water-based creations in the region, I would also recommend going to see the Devetaki cave and the Krushuna waterfalls near Lovech. I would add another day for that though.

IS FREE - you should go on weekdays to avoid the crowds. There's street vendors with organic honey and souvenirs. Is a short walk but totally worth it.

Two years ago, we visited on working day and as expected, we was the only visitors. Except a fen of rock climbing. This year it was a holiday and much more people, some with kids, were there.

Prohodna Cave, located in northern Bulgaria, is a natural wonder known for its unique geological features and captivating beauty. This stunning cave is renowned for its two impressive eye-shaped entrances, which have earned it the nickname "The Eyes of God." Visitors can explore the cavernous interior of Prohodna, admiring the natural skylights formed by the openings above and the dramatic rock formations within. One of the highlights of the cave is the "God's Eye" phenomenon, where sunlight filters through the openings to create the illusion of giant eyes gazing down from above. Prohodna Cave offers a mesmerizing experience for adventurers and nature enthusiasts alike, with its awe-inspiring natural beauty and mystical atmosphere.

It’s a short 5-10 mins walk from the free carpark to the entrance of the cave. The cave itself is quite big and the pair of ‘eye’ is great for photography. Definitely worth a visit.

Prohodna, a magnificent and expansive karst cave, presents a unique opportunity for exploration in Bulgaria. This natural wonder is open around the clock and offers free entry, making it an accessible and inviting destination for visitors. Situated in the heart of north central Bulgaria, Prohodna lies within the Iskar Gorge, close to the village of Karlukovo in the Lukovit Municipality of Lovech Province. The cave's most striking feature is the pair of eye-like openings in its ceiling, aptly named "God's Eyes." These natural formations give the cave an almost mystical aura, attracting both casual tourists and nature enthusiasts alike. The cave's location in the picturesque Iskar Gorge adds to its allure, with the surrounding landscape offering a blend of rugged beauty and serene tranquility. The accessibility of Prohodna, combined with its distinctive geological features, makes it a must-visit for those seeking to experience Bulgaria's natural beauty. Visitors to Prohodna are treated to a unique spectacle as they gaze upon the "God's Eyes," which seem to watch over the cave and its explorers. This remarkable feature, along with the cave's vastness and the beauty of its natural setting, makes Prohodna a captivating and memorable destination in Bulgaria.

This is stunning place in Bulgaria, must see. It is free of charge to enter, so is the parking. Outside can found stalls with some traditional Bulgarians items for sale. Inside the cave has interesting views and opportunity for photographs. Unfortunately not suitable for people who cannot walk very well. Definitely worth the trip!

Beautiful place unfortunately there is no one to look after it and it's not secured. So do not leave the children unattended!! There is no one who can tell you something about the place, some stories of it, some legends. No one except the traders outside who sell fruits and vegetables, some minerals, mugs, magnets etc. When you going to get some jacket or jumper with you, it's not so so cold but... Other thing which you will need are shoes with good soles to prevent you from slipping. There is no designated car park but it's plenty of space on the field where you can left your vehicle. Also there are plenty of space for picnic if you are in a mood for it. And the place is free to visit it. 😉

Beautiful place, even if it is a little bit remote, but it's nice to visit. It could be indicated better if the small church/chapel is reachable by foot and open.

This unique cave is called "The Eyes of God" a natural wonder situated at 110 km from the capital Sofia via the Hemus highway. At present, all visits are still free of charge which is unbelievable in a country that has embraced the market economy.Parking also free. From the pictures you will understand why this name. Definately worth a visit if you are travelling in the North West part of Bulgaria. Enjoy it and recharge yourselves with positive energy.

Not worth the visit. Cave with lots of people. The parking is muddy and full of cars, and the entrance is also full with little shops and stalls. I dont understand why they have to sell you everything at the entrance of a natural place. There are other caves with more beauty and organization.

  • 5/5 Dennis D. 8 months ago on Google
Don't miss it.

Went bungee jumping there, great spot for a jump and also a great cave for exploring casually. There's also a light trail.

Amazing cave with 2 large entrances, 2 large openings in the ceiling and with many climbing routes. The parking and the entrance are free. Parking area coordinates 43.176, 24.0758 Enjoy ;)

You can visit this amazing place 24 hours a day , we wanted to see the stars shining through the eyes and we went there by night , the road takes you next to the entrance of the cave , there is no fee for the entrance , the cave is small but her trademark "eyes" makes the visit worthvile , no entrance fee ,no parking fee , and a stunning wiew , i see this as an absoulute win

  • 5/5 Wade A. 10 months ago on Google
Massive cave with legendary "eyes". Not really much more than that, but I had to go see it. I was not disappointed and ended up taking dozens of photos to print the right one for our epic locations wall at home.

Beautiful place with lovely scenery all around - not only in the cave itself, but also on the way to the "St. Marina" rock church. 1.5 hours from Sofia by a car. Perfect for 1-day trip. Interesting for kids. If you plan on having a lunch in Lukovit, make sure you'll do that before 14h, as most of the restaurants close about that time, which is a bit awkward.

Prohodna Cave is unique with a unique structure and a length of arround 400m. It is a prehistoric dwelling and one of the attractions that attracts many tourists and rock climbers every year. The most important thing that distinguishes it is the two large holes that appeared as a result of erosion in its ceiling, which are similar to eyes as It allows sunlight and moonlight to pass through. Prohodna Cave is located in the area of the village of Karlukovo. It has been a natural landmark since 1962, his gallery height is about 60m.

This is the best cave experience I had so far. It is truly breathing how the nature sculpted it. There is always visitors so do plan to spend some time there to see everything. It is free to enter abd quite safe. Ideal for a visit without experience or equipment. If you want to continue to Saint Marina stone church/monastery you need experience in hiking and proper shoes as it is a bit harder. I didn't go due to my fear of steep terrain and downhills. But if you like adventure do continue. After exploring the cave.

Very cool place! On-line pictures really don't convey the grandeur. Good day outting, only an hour and a half or so from Sofia, and free!

  • 5/5 Rumyana L. 1 year ago on Google
The cave is a natural 262 m long rock bridge. Prohodna Cave is naturally lit thanks to its large entrances and cave holes – natural holes on the ceiling. These cave holes are precisely what makes the cave unique. Situated next to each other and having similar almond-shaped forms, the cave holes bear striking resemblance to giant eyes that seem as if they are staring at the visitors. It is not by chance that local people sometimes refer to them as The Eyes of God. Seen from a specific angle, they even resemble a face that looks down, and when it is wet it seems as if they are “crying”. People who witness this natural phenomenon are astonished and a little excited – the incredible symmetry and location of the cave holes fill one with awe and a sense of mystique. The cave was declared a natural landmark in 1962.

Amazing cave, you should visit it. Better to do it not on the weekends as it is a little crowded, because of the tourist. But if tou are not in a hurry you can wait for them to leave.
