This is the best place to see Pashupatinath Temple from the background. It also takes an in-depth look at riverside rituals based on the Hindu traditions. The place is located on the eastern side of the Pashupatinath Temple on the banks of the holy river Bagmati. There are some seating arrangements for visitors. Yoc can find more small temples nearby. Monkeys roam here and there so be alert.

Pashupatinath Temple is a famous Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, located on the banks of the Bagmati River in Kathmandu, Nepal. It is considered one of the most sacred temples in the world and attracts thousands of devotees and tourists every year. The temple complex includes several shrines and temples, as well as a large open courtyard where pilgrims and visitors can gather. The main temple is a pagoda-style structure with a gold-plated roof, and it houses a lingam, which is a representation of Lord Shiva. The temple's inner sanctum is only accessible to Hindus, but visitors can still admire the architecture and observe the rituals and ceremonies taking place outside. Pashupatinath Temple is not just a place of worship, but also an important cultural and social center. It is home to many sadhus, or Hindu ascetics, who live in and around the temple complex. The temple also hosts several festivals and events throughout the year, including the Maha Shivaratri festival, which is celebrated with great enthusiasm and attracts thousands of devotees. In addition to its spiritual and cultural significance, Pashupatinath Temple is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site, recognized for its outstanding architecture and historical significance.

Place with mixed vibes. Dead bodies are cremated there and the ashes are then placed in the river. Aartee and prayers are done daily as from 18hrs

“The most beautiful in the world is, of course, the world itself.” ~ Wallace Stevens I started my second day of the trip by visiting the Pashupatinath Temple which is considered one of the oldest and largest temples in the world. When I went there, I was skeptical about going inside because there were a long queue and people were standing there with lots of flowers on their prayer plate. I was asked to take one inside hence I followed the rituals. I happened to visit the temple and tied the thread on the wish window where I did five knots to thank the lord for giving me this opportunity of visiting the temple. In the 2015 earthquake, some part of the temple was damaged and reconstructed later on. There was a guide that I didn’t take along however, he was so kind that he helped me in offering my prayers to the Lord Shiva, and later on when I tried to give him some money, he denied it instantly. I really liked his authenticity and wisdom. Also, I couldn’t get the blessed food of the temple back at home as it wasn’t allowed on the flight due to security reasons.

Beautiful and divine place. So much to see and understand but very little sources are deployed to explain about the place and in some cases there are no one to guide you. Jadguru shankaracharaya from Sringeri management employs the priest to this temple. Evening aarthi and morning Abhisheka to shiva is very special here.

This is the point at a little height from where you can view the “Gajur” of Pashupatinath Temple closely and clearly. Also, you can see most of the temples in around the premises of Pashupatinath with Bagmati river flowing below. Be careful with the monkeys, that may snatch your foods and other things which you take up there.

A surreal experience that leaves you in awe as a witness to ancient ceremonies. Our guide Ruben was incredible, if he’s there book him. What goes on around you is not a reenactment, it’s not a museum, it’s real life and death and I felt privileged to be able to be a witness to it.
