At first glance the place is very nice and the staff is wonderful. The bed should be more comfortable. The place could be cleaned more thoroughly and rooms given air purifiers for all the dust. The shower at the bottom of the glass also has lots of mold. The food provided by the hotel and it's restaurants is not very good. The Indian was flavorless even compared to what we get in the States, the Nepali food was not as good as other places in Nepal, and the continental was very bad. On my way out I was charged $20 USD for a car that was no better than a local taxi when I had a nice car for that amount on the way in. I would not be so harsh if this place was not listed as a 5-star hotel and charged European and American prices like it was a 5-star. In my humble opinion it should be a 3 or 3.5 star. The history of the place, boutique style, and customer service give this place huge potential if other issues can be addressed.

I am surprisingly pleased and glad that my partner booked this villa for our one week stay! I loved the fact it was a little isolated and away from the main roads and attractions. The villa itself is consumed with rich history and culture. The rooms were beautiful, very detailed and it was worth the money! Moreover, I want to give a MASSIVE THANKS to the staff who made our experience the best and it was beyond our expectations. They were attentive, super friendly and genuinely caring. I would highly recommend this villa and will definitely rebook again. Thank you for your welcoming hospitality!

Wow. Just wow. Baber Mahal is the peak of relaxation in Kathmandu. We were warmly welcomed by the incredible staff and given a tour of the entire facility, which extends so much beyond simply the hotel. Connected to the hotel are a series of restaurants and boutique shops which we explored for several days and could have continued exploring for several more. Our room felt like a palace bed chamber and the staff treated us like royalty. This is my top lodging recommendation in Kathmandu not only to see all of the local attractions, but also because Baber Mahal is its own attraction which you’ll enjoy spending many days exploring.

Very beautiful hotel, elegant historic architecture. Everything is comfortable and clean, makes you feel like living in a king’s palace! Staff is great as well, very accommodating and polite, excellent English. Not the cheapest place to stay in Kathmandu, but worth the money, would definitely come again.

Rooms were sparkling and brand new, quiet. Service was quick and prompt, we ordered room service as welll as from the indian restaurant and were pleased with both! Didn't get a chance to checkout the pool or sauna but they seemed well cleaned and welcoming!

Hands down one of the nicest places I've ever stayed. We unexpectedly had to abandon our EBC trek and were looking for some comfort and relaxation. Their service was over the top from the time we stepped through the front door. All of the rooms were beautiful and clean. We even had an amazing patio attached to our suite, overlooking the central fountain and courtyard. An added bonus were the various shops and restaurants all within the complex. The only issue we had is that the pool was undergoing renovations. When they saw we were disappointed, they arranged for car, cellphone and admission into a nearby resort pool. This experience alone exemplifies the level of customer service they provide. Would 1000% recommend.🥰🥰🥰🌹🌹💐🥰❣️🥰

It's a good hotel and service is good too. Location while in quiet area. Certainly recommended. Food, cultural program, good room, good service. Our room was with balcony. Interior is good. Some things do need little upgrade though.

Perfect for tourists who want to have the finer things in life since it’s affordable for tourists who aren’t living the hippie lifestyle. They have two restaurants that’s part of the villa, both are high end restaurants one has the better food while the other has a better environment.

Baber Mahal Vilas is a awesome hotal .We had the pleasure of staying at Baber Mahal Villas in April -- we travelled with my wife and parents and found this hotel by chance and it certainly made our trip! It's easy to find nice hotels, but not easy to find one so magical. Rooms and hotel are beautiful (and rich in history), but most importantly the service from the staff is 5-stars -- everyone goes out of their way to make you feel special, make anything you need happen, and also there with a smile on their face. From the manager, to receptionist, to waiters, to cleaners, everyone is so kind and wonderful. Food and drinks are good too, and it's also nice that the Baber Mahal compound has many shops and restaurants to visit. It's like a small little gorgeous village and you don't need to go far to have fun and indulge! During the trip our son also got sick and the staff went out of their way to get honey, hydration salts, thermometer... it was very sweet. They really took care of us. If we're back in Kathmandu, we'll definitely stay here again, without a doubt!

A well looked after heritage property. It is decorated with some amazing expensive art collection and artifects. Property has many restaurants with good food choices. Staff was well groomed, attentive, and looked after us well.

I have stayed here more than 10 time and and reviewing this on my 10+ stay . This is my second home whenever I want to relax its top prioritize place on my list . I feel very comfortable with whole setting of this hotel . Friendly staff delicious food and outstanding breakfast.I have experienced almost all category room from which I got to experience all set of diverse culture and heritage carrying atmosphere. The rooms are really nice, both in terms of comfort , cleanliness and in terms of giving you a picture of Nepali culture and heritage. Every detail seems to have been thought of brilliant design, which creates a truly relaxing and interesting atmosphere . My favorite spot is in main courtyard in front of koi fish pond . I can stay an hour long watching those fish .and coming to the best part . Swimming pool here is to die for . Very clean .Steam and sauna is offered when ever we will to go and is within the package . No extra charge are added for that . And coming to my third favorites , their library . They got best book collection. Not a book reader but there collection got a great history book which definitely caught my interest on . Highly highly highly recommended ❤️❤️❤️❤️ ♥️. And Thankyou for token of love

I’ve been lucky enough to visit Kathmandu three times over the years. The Baber Mahal is by far the best hotel I have stayed in here. It is not a bland, corporate hotel but a beautiful traditional one. The hotel could not look any better, but it is also backed up by lovely, friendly staff that work here. They couldn’t be more helpful. If this wasn’t enough the food they serve is also some of the best you will eat. If you are planning a visit to Kathmandu look online and book the Baber Mahal - I guarantee you will not be disappointed.

Fantastic location in Kathmandu. Everybody; reception, housekeeping, restaurant, they are all very helpfull. You have a question; They help you with FI a taxi, information about a location, etc.etc. Location is outside the city and very quite.

Smiling and courteous staff made my wife and I feel like their most welcomed guests. Hotel property is a visual delight fashioned from historic architecture, surrounded by a labyrinth of boutique shops and dining, all within a few steps. Rooms are exceptionally clean and comfortable. The breakfast buffet offers ample variety. Room service delivered a smashing late evening dinner. A special shout-out goes to Sudikshya and Abhipsa at the front desk for their professional and friendly service that made our stay at Baber Mahal Vilas so extra special. Why anyone would choose to stay anywhere else in Kathmandu is beyond me?

I have been to Kathmandu on several occasions. I have stayed at places like the Yak & Yeti, Hyatt Regency... They were all good, but Baber Mahal Vilas was clearly a step above them. It is very, very clean. The food is some of the best in Kathmandu. The staff went out of their way for us. We had a late airport departure and they allowed us to stay until our airplane left at no extra charge. The manager and staff are fantastic!

Needs improvement on the food and we were served uncooked burger and had to ask three times to watch the spice level for the food we ordered even after mentioning it's for kid.

The most memorable part of Babar Mahal was the manager. I have stayed in many fine properties in many countries and by far he was the most accommodating, hospitable, friendly, courteous man I have come across in the hotel industry. He was a very genuine, respectable and overall a great example of a person. I can't recommend this hotel enough, moreso if he is in charge. I have no doubt he will not let you down.

If while in Kathmandu you're looking for a typical 5 star property, with spa, swimming pool, fitness center, massive lobbies and no soul, then this is not the right hotel for you. But, if in Kathmandu, you want to get a glimpse of how royalty would have lived, to appreciate the beauty of intricate wooden carvings, four poster beds, ornate furniture, and the sense of privacy and luxury that comes along with it, then this is the place to choose. And the service levels match the exceptional property itself.

We had a lovely week long stay at the Barber Mahal and couldn’t have been happier. The manager Prabin was extremely attentive and helpful, always happy to stop for a chat or provide information. The front desk was also extremely helpful and always greeted us with a smile. They were happy to help organise trips for us and book taxis. The rest of the staff were always polite and courteous and we always felt looked after. The hotel driver was also very good, we always felt safe in the car and on arrival he would help find guides or buy tickets to various sites. I can also highly recommend the massage service, much needed after our long flight. We had breakfast included which was good but slightly limited in options. However there was always a selection of eggs available prepared in a variety of ways. A real highlight was the fresh Puris which were made to order. They were absolutely delicious! We tried the rooftop restaurant which was also good, again the freshly made naan were simply stunning. I really enjoyed the tandoori chicken , chicken tikka and paneer. Simple food, simply delicious. The rooms were clean and comfortable with AC and the bathrooms had good showers. Fresh bottled water is provided in the rooms daily. The pool and gym are on the small side, but there is a sauna which was good. Location wise, it’s a 10 min taxi to thamel for which we paid around 400-500 rupees which we didn’t barter much. It was around 15 mins to the airport which was around 500-700 rupees Overall very content with our stay!

Absolutely marvel of a hotel , in a vantage location. The design of the property , and the room interiors , are both ultimate in creativity and create an ambience that will transmit you straight away to the Royal Era of Nepal !

A rich old heritage property. I would say the best in Kathmandu for a full Nepalese royal experience. Several amazing restaurants in the compound plus amazing royal rooms to stay. I was there on 19th, 20th and 21st of December 2019. Highly recommended!

This is a boutique Hotel, I stayed for a night with my partner to celebrate our anniversary. Since it’s a boutique hotel it’s pretty expensive. Perfect for tourists who want to have the finer things in life since it’s affordable for tourists who aren’t living the hippie lifestyle. They have two restaurants that’s part of the villa, both are high end restaurants one has the better food while the other has a better environment. Both are good just being detailed. And some small shops. I am quite sure this villa is part of the Rana history. I had a few minor “common nepali” problems which were fixed right away and weren’t to serious. Most importantly the manager even tried reaching me after I left the villa to apologize. So that shows willingness to improve the villa even after a tiny tiny mistake was made. It is expensive but I will definitely visit this place. .
