Right across from the National Museum of Nepal, the military museum is located in one big building. It gives very interesting details about Nepal's involvement in military conflicts outside of Nepal and all the incidents that required the Nepalese army to be deployed.

The selection of rare firearms itself is worth entry. Sadly,a lot of info is only in Nepalese, but still super interesting for anyone with an interest in military history. With a bit more English info it would be great

The military museum is located in Chhauni just opposite the National Museum. The military museum is more likely to the fans of military history. The building of the museum was built in December 2000 by the Nepalese army and the museum was officially opened in July of 2005. The museum is lined up with Nepal’s first-ever Rolls-Royce gifted by Queen Elizabeth II and a Skyvan transport plane. The interior inside the museum displays the endless paintings of death and mayhem depicting Nepali battles over the centuries. The museum also has a wide range of collections which includes the artifacts, history of the Nepali army, and the object that light up the sacrifice, dedication, and devotion of the army to the nation.

At the beginning when the museum was opened the museum was free for all the visitors but 8 months later the administration started collecting the entry fees for the museum. The museum is also a research center for the student for their studies.

It was fun. Ticket price::Rs 20. Now you can take pictures in the museum by paying extra Rs 30. Real guns and cannon are there and wide knowledge about history of wars in Nepal. There is also a park where you can see the names of all the brave soldier who lost their life for the sake of our country. It is a treasure for those who seek to know about our history and firearms. There are so many firearms that is modified and invented by Gehendra Shumsher.

Realised why they moved weapon section here from the main building. They got rid of lot of good weapons and historical archive. Probably auctioned them dirt cheap. Historical gun making machines and Rolls Royce gifted by Elizabeth II on the dust and sun. Really disappointed by lack of respect and motive to preserve our historical items.

Great place to learn about the history of Nepal and the Nepalese armies arms and ammunition. The place is very clean and well managed. Right opposite of this place is national museum, so both places can be visited in a single day. Must visit place for gun and military stuff lovers. Obviously worth it place.

Opposite the National Museum in an army compound, this will likely appeal only to fans of military history. Lined up on parade outside the museum are a two-person tank, Nepal’s first ever Rolls-Royce, gifted by Queen Elizabeth II in 1961, and a Skyvan transport plane. The interior displays lead past endless paintings of death and mayhem depicting Nepali battles over the centuries, including several against British and Tibetans, as well as an armoury, including a fine bazooka and circular weapon rack. Look for the portrait of the intriguing 18th-century queen Rajendra Laxmi Devi Shah, who trained as a soldier and led her army on three campaigns. The museum closes an hour earlier between November and March.

Museum of Nepal military history. A must for students and/or historians. Entrance showcasing military tanks, helicopter and war plane. A lot of old pictures of persona, guns etc. connected to war. Can't relate much. The only thing that enlightened me was when I saw some fossils of rhinoceros. No pictures allowed to be taken inside, with entrance fee of NRS100 for foreigners. Located near the Swambhunath temple and opposite to the National Museum has a good legacy of the unification of Nepal and its history.

Best place to know about nepal's history about military

  • 3/5 Alex S. 4 years ago on Google
(Translated by Google) A somewhat old-fashioned exhibition concept that is limited to exploits by the Nepalese armed forces. A little large device outdoors, the extensive weapon collection is very worthwhile. The deployment of the Nepalese army abroad and at the UN is unfortunately not covered enough, although the topic would be extremely interesting. For those interested in military, a must for 100 rupees admission, but historically more could be got out.
