We got a tip to visit Horyu-ji and Chugu-ji from a friendly local in Kanazawa. When we went to Kyoto first thing was to visit the shrines! They are about 45min away from Kyoto but a must see attraction for anyone interested in history and culture! The staff there is very friendly helping non-Japanese travelers to understand the significance of the place. Miroku Bosatsu is an amazing statue in the Chugu temple that makes you reflect on the past and present of the world.
