the
newly
built
memorial
at
Kayathar,
for
freedom
fighter
Veerapandiya
Kattabomman,
in
honour
of
his
gallant
deeds.
He
fought
the
British
courageously
during
the
freedom
struggle.

Secretary

the
Committee,
here
on
Friday
said
it
was
a
fitting
tribute
to
the
fallen
hero.
The
monumental
building
was
established
at
a
cost
of
Rs.1.10
crore.
A
life-size
statue
of
the
legendary
freedom
fighter
erected
at
the
memorial
was
the
highlight.
The
statue
of
Mr.
Kattabomman
holding
a
sword
revealed
his
heroic
character,
he
said.
Speaking
about
the
late
freedom
fighter,
he
said
Kattabomman
was
hanged
at
Kayathar
on
October
16
in
1799.
