The
old
Bali.
My
first
trip
to
Indonesia
was
back
in
1998/1999.
Indonesia
was
just
coming
out
of
mass
political
and
military
uprising.
Many
would
have
thought
it
was
a
silly
time
to
come
but
I
did.
I
landed
in
Jakarta
and
a
few
days
later
made
my
way
to
Bali.
Admittedly
this
was
near
the
end
of
the
crisis
so
things
were
quiet
and
Bali
was
not
affected
too
much.
The
point
of
this
is
of
course
not
the
crisis
at
the
time.
The
point
is
that
20
years
ago
was
the
last
time
I
had
felt
this
feeling
in
Bali.
This
weekend
I
went
to
a
small
resort
named
Nirvana
Resort
Bali.
This
was
a
nice
throwback
to
how
Bali
used
to
be
and
should
be
in
my
opinion.
The
way
things
were.
At
that
time
I
stayed
someplace
near
Seminyak
I
think.
I
have
no
idea
of
the
exact
location,
the
place
was
called
Bintang
Resort
or
something
like
that.
This
weekend's
getaway
was
a
throwback
to
that
time.
It
was
a
simple
place
with
simple
settings,
yet
perfect
for
a
quiet
weekend
with
friends
and
family.
The
food
was
amazing
and
the
place
was
as
good
as
it
can
get.
For
about
$150/night,
breakfast
included
this
place
is
heaven
for
relaxation
and
pure
old-style
Bali
feels.
What
I
loved
about
the
place
was
that
it
was
exactly
as
promised.
From
the
amazing
bathrooms
to
the
beds
and
all
the
furnishings.
This
place
was
exactly
as
described,
and
as
an
avid
traveller,
this
was
well
worth
the
visit.
The
views
are
far
and
wide,
all
the
way
from
being
able
to
see
the
WGK
statues
in
Bukit,
to
the
neighboring
islands
of
Lembongan
and
Nusa
Penida.
The
menu.
The
pool
felt
a
touch
cold
to
my
wimpy
body.
However,
once
I
was
in
I
was
fine.
That
is
usually
how
it
goes,
but
I
am
a
wimp,
what
can
I
say?
From
the
pool
one
can
watch
the
fast
boats
head
back
and
forth
to
the
islands
and
also
can
see
the
ferry
heading
to
Lombok
and
Gili
islands.
There
is
always
someone
on
duty
to
watch
and
tend
to
needs
from
the
small
but
well
equipped
restaurant.
We
had
dinner
the
night
we
arrived.
Considering
how
small
this
place
was,
the
menu
was
great
for
both
local
and
western
taste
as
well
as
for
drinks
and
coffees.
The
service
was
amazing,
the
staff
was
always
smiling
and
ready
to
help.
This
felt
like
old
Bali,
with
a
touch
of
Balinese
music
in
the
background
and
birds
chirping
when
you
get
up
in
the
morning.
The
sound
of
the
ocean
is
always
close
as
well
but
not
loud
enough
to
intrude
on
your
sleep.
Well
worth
the
drive.
This
little
place
is
about
an
hour
and
a
half
away
from
the
main
area
of
Bali.
Be
ready
for
a
bit
of
a
drive.
Yet
it
sure
is
worth
it...
So
the
next
time
you
want
to
get
away,
or
do
a
staycation,
check
out
this
amazing
little
place
that
is
not
quite
in
the
middle
of
nowhere.
