The Southern Square (Alun-alun Kidul) of the Sunan's Palace, Surakarta, Central Java is not worth a visit from its beauty or cleanliness, but somehow it has a unique place in the hearts of many local people, with its artistic royal buildings, hawkers, and simple food shops offering unique traditional foods and drinks. Children love to watch a flock of "royal" buffalos which are descendants of a sacred buffalo called Kyai Slamet.

Just like Alun-alun in general. It's crowded, it's many visitors, it's full of merchants and it sells everything. Eye candy. It's near keraton. People like to snack here because decent foods is affordable. No hours open or closed. People can visit here anytime. But for the merchant's whereabouts, there was only day until night. Anything else, we're free to visit anytime. Have a good day! 👌🏻

A big field adjacent to the palace (kraton) of the late raja of Solo, PakubuwonoX. In the daytime, there is little to do, but later in the afternoon, lots of foodstalls and ad-hoc play cars for kids rise up in the field. The whole field will almost be full. I thought that it's okay to see it once, but most of it does not make a wel maintained impression, also when dry, very dusty and lots of noise from gensets, motobikes, loud music. So, no, thank you

Nice place to hangout, a bit dark because it's in an open space. So many different types of food are available and many of them are pretty cheap. there's an amusement ride here, ferris wheel, glowing pedicab, and much more. motorcycle parking is easy, don't know about car parking though.

A very interesting place to be visited. You can find some foods such as bakso bakar(grilled meatball),?mi rendang (rendang noodle), siomay, etc. But there is no many choices. :/. As a local, I am bored... But if you are tourist, this place MUST BE visited. You can eat, feed the bulls, go around with Becak Lampu. But I have to remind you,.. if you go there by car, you might find it difficult when you want to park your car.

Pretty good plaza square of the palace. There are various food stall around. We can find sacred buffalo at northern part of this square. Not bad to hang out or try some street foods.

The Alun-alun Kidul lacks maintenance and lots of garbage scattered about. Street vendors are also irregular. If a uniform tent was made it would be great. Sometimes some merchant cars enter the grass field.

This place could be a better public spaces if the government could re shape and replanning the utility of places. It could be better garden management, designed SME stalls, even making the kandang kebo more aesthetic
