Holocaust Memorial (Shadow of former Synagogue)

Tourist attraction Monument Cultural landmark Memorial

🫤 I've driven and walked past here many times. Never spoke to me about commemoration. Everything is dreary and grey. No benches to stroll on, no greenery, nothing. You should think about how to make it more attractive again. People often mention memorial,

I'm a little torn. On the one hand, it is good and right to build such a memorial. But on the other hand, I wonder why this had to happen so carelessly. Such a place should actually be a place for reflection and introspection. Here, however, you have the feeling of looking at a noise barrier on the highway. Appropriate car traffic included.

The memorial is a haunting memorial. But in order to be able to take in such a memorial and linger there, it shouldn't look as if it were a large parking lot right next to the Coulinstrasse acceleration curve. I was already wondering whether it was built for drivers who wait at the traffic lights or whether pedestrians should really stroll there to commemorate the victims of Nazism? Then a few seats and trees/greenery would have made sense.

Remembrance is important, but the design of the square was a little unimaginative. Surrounded by a lot of car traffic, I rarely see anyone remembering the dead. In my opinion, apart from the wall and the names, there is nothing interesting to discover.

It is hard to image the tragedy in such nice small town.

An important monument against forgetting that would invite you to linger and remember with a few benches and trees. It appears dreary and forbidding, although it is integrated into the surroundings in an architecturally appealing way. ---------------- An important memorial against forgetting, that with a few benches and trees would invite to stay and remember. So it looks dreary and rejecting, although it is integrated architecturally appealing into the environment.

So sad how we people treat each other. Have we learned that everyone has a right to believe what they believe, but treat each other like we would like to be treated 😓

Beautifully integrated into the street as a memorial. I think the idea of simulating the outlines with the paving stones is very good. Unfortunately, this memorial is a bit lost in the busy corner.

Well of course what is a memorial anyway. It amazes me to no end that may memorials seemed to have been desigbed by people who had no inspiration at all.

In the middle of Wiesbaden, and with only a few signs to point you in the right direction, this monument must be considered with the wall on the other side of the road. It records all of the names of those Jews who died (either directly or indirectly) as a result of the Great War. The information board is in English and German, and there is a bench under a tree nearby if you wish to sit and reflect/contemplate on it all for a time.

The memorial itself is impressive and thought-provoking. However, the busy surroundings only fit in to a limited extent

Humbling memorial on the grounds of Wiesbaden's former main Synagogue.
