Just ate there this evening. I ordered the 300g Filet cooked to medium as recommended by our server when I described how I wanted it. It was cooked as a true medium rare is in the United States - a thick stripe of red through the center. This piece of meat was the size of a baseball and tasted amazing. In my 61 years of life, I will say that this was in the top 2% of all steaks I’ve ever had. My wife, who likes the occasional steak, who, over the last 25 years I have coached down from hard medium well (ruined) steaks to medium-medium rare steaks ordered a 200g filet cooked medium well upon the servers advice. She described it as unbelievable and it was cooked to a perfect juicy pink. The salad that comes with the steak is offered with a yogurt or other type of dressing… I don’t eat dressing so I chose neither and they brought out a vial of olive oil and another of balsamic vinegar in case I wanted something different. I didn’t but my wife wished she could have had that. We ordered a baked potato to share… it was cooked just right. Each meal also came with two slices of garlic toast. The service was exceptional and the price was incredibly low. I had tap water to drink, my wife had sparkling water and a glass of wine - the tab was 78 Euros I believe. Very nice Restaurant with a great varieity of Steak and side dishes. The ambience ist great inside as well as outside. Our steaks were on point and were served at the same time (We were 12 people). The servers were very friendly and funny. A great place to visit for a good steak. Maybe make reservations beforehand as it was quite busy when we visited. Defenitly will visit again.

I highly recommend this restaurant. The service was outstanding, the food was very tasty. It is a small and coasy place that serves excellent stakes.

Out of the way, cozy shop, with great food! English speaking staff who were willing to let me practice my German. ;). No kids menu, but a welcoming environment all the same.

Wonderful and warm hosts. We visited over a weekend. The place can get crowded during weekends. However, they accommodated us and served us with drinks and the food wasn't too late either (earlier than the waiting time we were told) The pricing is just about right. Can't complain. We ordered the lamb and beef steak with pepper sauce. Also the dark beer and Shiraz wine. The food was delicious. The dark beer had a hint of caramel after taste, if that is what you like. Else, you can avoid it. The Thomson Shiraz was wonderful (as usual). Our host spoke good English as well. Music was missing though.

Amazing dinner...think it was the best steak of my life honestly. Got the 200g filet medium rare and the salad with the orange mustard vinaigrette. Like everyone else says definitely make a reservation. I was alone on a Friday night and called about 3hrs before and they were wonderful enough to get me a table but that was just luck I think. If you want an amazing steak dinner with friendly service in Mainz Steakhaus El Chico is your spot.

Wonderful spot!! Wonderful staff. Steaks to die for. Friend had the Lamb.... I'm not a fan of Lamb but this was out of this world. I'd actually order it, for sure the next time. Prices fantastic. Will certainly be back. Danka for a wonderful evening

The best meal while I was staying in Mainz

A very good steak from quality meat, served by friendly and professional staff. Very pleasant sitting arrangements inside and outside. I enjoyed my visit.

Good atmosphere sitting outdoor limited seats, it took 20 mins for the waiter to show up and another 30 mins for the food .Food is generally ok steak was full of tendons (tenderloin 300gm) .waiters needs to have training .

My favorite restaurant for steak. Best in Mainz!! I always come here every times if I visit Mainz city. I cannot missed the steak here. The quality of the meat and the perfect cooking here made steak become juicy in perfect condition. I would like to try the pure beef then I only order the steak without any sauce or decoration. It’s perfect!! I suggest to book the seat in advance because this restaurant is always full. Otherwise you need to come during unusual dining time to get the seat. As I said, come here when you have visited Mainz is a must!!

Great staff and steak! This restaurant is in a quiet street with perfect outdoor seats. Professional services! You must try the corn, super delicious! I finished it without taking a photo first.

It's a little bit expensive but the meat is awesome. They also have a nice selection of wines. It's better to reserve because it's usually crowded.

Lovely place, helpful English and German speaking staff, gave perfect advice on cooking options , sides and sauces. Meat was good quality, everyone in a group of 10 was happy.

It is where I had the most delicious Steak i have ever tasted in Germany. The place is very nice with warm ambiance and friendly staffs. It is necessary to make a reservation beforehand, as this is a very popular and busy Restaurant

The only reason I am not rating this restaurant 1 star is because of the lovely lady who was constantly running between tables. We ordered a steak that comes with a side salad and the salad (!!!) arrived after 50 minutes, and probably only because I complained that we have been waiting for our food for 45 minutes. And the food wasn’t even that great. I won’t be returning.
