The entrance to the hotel couldn't be more convenient, it's accessible right from the airport terminal with clearly marked signs to get you there. The staff was friendly, check-in was fast, the room is well equipped and the bed was ever so comfy. Perfect for a one night stay before or after a long journey. Room service is available until 2am and the food menu is extensive. Highly recommended!

Convenient, clean, comfortable. I was pleasantly surprised that one doesn't need to exit OR Tambo to find City Lodge. We had about 6hours between flights and booked a room here. Big bathtub, clean and comfortable room and beds. Room service available, however I ordered a glass of wine and it came open, would have preferred a mini bottle. Will definitely book again.

We are really enjoying our stay at City Lodge Hotel. Got in this evening. Had to pay some porters to get all of our stuff (2 trolleys worth) over to the hotel but it is a very short walk and the signage and directions are very clear. Jumped in the shower after the long flight and the water temperature fluctuated between cold and scalding every 30 seconds or so. Hence the lower rating for the room quality. Service is very friendly, prompt and courteous. Ate dinner tonight in the restaurant. Prices were reasonable ($5 chese burger with fries) servings were generous and the food was delicious. I would not hesitate to stay here again Update : the breakfast buffet is quite extensive with eggs to order. A good value at around $10. It was not included with our room at the rate we paid.

My preferred hotel inside the Airport. It is very convenient, the staff is very friendly and helpful. Many rooms have been refurbished. I stayed a few times here and one can't beat the convenience of being a few minutes from the terminals. The price is perfect. The beds, pillows are comfortable, and the bed linens are nice. My pet peeve is that when you arrive at the hotel, if you have a lot of luggage, you can't push the trolley into the lift. It's extremely inconvenient having to unload the luggage and drag into the lift.

A convenient and not expensive hotel. A good solution for overnight connections at the airport but probably not ideal for longer stays. Located at the terminal so just a few minutes walk to the gates. The rooms are pretty standard for those type of hotels so everything needed for a good night sleep is there. Check in and check out are quick and easy.

Hotel is OK. Our check-in was delayed because we had booked via a bookings site - I recommend that you avoid doing this. Booking sites complicate things. The hotel itself is OK. I was in a double room with one other person. Bad idea. Space is too tight for 2. The environmentally friendly soaps and shampoos in the bathrooms were a nice touch. Hotel walls are thin and you can hear people talking next door. Comfy beds and bedding. Nice for an overnight stay. I wouldn't stay for longer though.

Excellent value, and just a short walk to the gates. Great place to spend an evening between flights. Room was very modern and clean, nice cafe/bar surrounding the outdoor pool. Affordable, extensive breakfast buffet with attentive staff. Would stay here again and definitely recommend.

I wish they had smart TV's with Netflix apps in them. I enjoyed bathroom design. The bedding was comfortable and clean. The reception staff was fast and friendly at checking in on the evening of my stay. I loved that the reception staff used the FN Bank handheld card reader's feature to provide my receipts in US dollars not Rand. Out of each day of my stay in S.A. no merchant offered to provide my receipts in US dollars using the very same card readers. That was greatly appreciated, sadly it was my last day in S.A.

So easy to reach, and that was surprising as a first-time guest. Check-in was mobbed at 6pm. Wish there had been bottled water in the room (there was none), because I was dehydrated after a 15-hour flight from Atlanta. Dinner buffet was wonderful. But waiters could not keep up with clearing tables for the breakfast buffet.

This is your average at best hotel airport. It’s about a 10 minute walk from the baggage claim and is situated on top of the airport parking garage. On your way to the hotel, it is important to stay vigilant and aware of your surroundings. It didn’t feel like the safest walk from airport to the hotel. The lounge/restaurant area of the hotel was very nice and open. This was the best part of the hotel. The rooms were standard with zero amenities. My shower didn’t have shampoo provided and the beds are soft with low quality pillows. The remote to our HVAC system was also nowhere to be found. We woke up a few times during the night because we heard doors slamming and people talking in the room next to us. This is an okay hotel if you have a 1 night layover. Anything longer than that, you should find another option.

the hotel itself was amazing, very cozy and i had a great night but the service was horrible. I was trying to order room service and waited 2 and a half hours, almost 3 just waiting to order and did not get a chance to. Took myself down to the receptionist they told I could order directly at the restaurant and the people who were taking my order were extremely rude and unapologetic, i’d rather starve then try to order with them again. Plus they weren’t wearing their mask correctly or not wearing them at all!!

The location is great, it's a few hundred metres (if that) from the terminals and food outlets. The rooms are fine but the bathroom was not as practical as it could be, smells don't dissipate very quickly. The staff were generally friendly and checkout was painless but check-in took too long because there weren't enough staff on duty. Free undercover parking is a big plus!

We were staying one night between two flights in the City Lodge Hotel. It's very easy to access if you just follow the signs from the airport (go past the car rental's, up to the second floor and continue going straight) and the check-in/check-out was very fast and easy going. They have a very nice restaurant in the hotel where they serve delicious food. The rooms on the other side are quite basic, but offered everything we needed. I wouldn't stay there for a holiday purpose, but for one night between to flights it was sufficient.

I stayed on three separate occasions over the course of two weeks. Location is excellent and within the greater terminal complex. Rooms are basic and somewhat dated but otherwise ok. There was a pubic hair on a bar of soap in my bathroom the first night I stayed which was gross. Staff in the Cafe were attentive despite operating under busy conditions. Considering this hotel was around US$100 per night than the nearby continental I would call it good value and would return.

Perfect hotel to stay at after getting off a 17 hr flight and looking to just chill and catch up on sleep. Close to all the shops and restaurants in the airport......as well as having a great eating area and buffet. Beautifully decorated as well

Walking airport access. Service and the restaurant are pretty good. Rooms are old and show the wear. Very disappointed with the poor quality and lack of products in the bathroom - like no hair shampoo. We have stayed here in 2008, 2014, and 2018. We don't plan on coming back unless we see an upgrade to the rooms.

This seemed to be the less expensive airport hotel option (the Intercontinental costs 3 times as much). Check in was busy and we had to wait. The corridors are endless as it is a very big hotel. The windows are not double glazed and not even air/noise tight. The carpets in the hallways were not clean and unfortunately we found that the carpet in our room had not been vacuumed and my husband found an artificial nail and there were other bits and pieces so I didn't walk barefoot. The shower had a tilt away from the drain so that the water pooled there and then slowly dripped out to the floor. There was also mildew. Breakfast nor the service were exciting but we found what to eat. Checkout was quicker and when I pointed out all the malfunctions to the receptionist she explained that the hotel is being gradually renovated and noted my remarks about the cleanliness. We are returning in a few days and are supposed to be in a renovated room - I hope to be able to revise my rating.

I booked last minute due to business commitments. Location couldn’t be better, and saves on taxi fees etc. All the staff I came in contact with were polite and friendly. The room was clean with fresh linen and well appointed. The bathroom was spacious and had plenty of hot water.

Walking distance to the airport. Food is good and reasonable priced, a small gym to work out, actual room is quite spacious. Bar served good beer. Breakfast start at 4am, which is good if you have a very early flight. Staff and security super helpful and friendly. Room officially is at 1400 hrs, but i physically checked in at 11am plus…and managed to get a room. Thou they must have available rooms, which is fair enough. Things to note thou - no toothpaste and toothbrush. Shower water temperature is great, thou take a minute or two to warm up to the temperature you want, especially in cold weather.

This hotel is the best!! I ended up staying here last minute because of a flight cancellation. Staff is awesome and super accommodating. I checked in at 3AM and they were chipper and ready to help. It’s really well priced, clean, and the food is good. It’s also basically in the airport so it’s easy to get to if you have a lot of stuff to carry. 10/10

Great hotel for overnight trips as it is right near the ortambointernational international. What's great is the service to and from the departure point at the airport. Staff and food is reasonably good also. Very helpful true SA hospitality here will recommend and use again.

This hotel was fine . We have come : times. They messed up the check in and gave us the wrong room two of those times. Front desk was always mobbed. You will want a filter water bottle or bottled water. They have water stations I. The halls but the water does taste awful.

The rooms are OK, nothing fancy but good for an overnight before catching the connection the other day. The room is clean and the bathroom is quite big. The room size is good, it fits 4 suitcases easily. The stuff is very unfriendly, not what we are used in SA.

Could not have been more pleasantly surprised by this place. When I thought ‘airport hotel’ I did not this it would be this modern and well maintained. Value for money. Starting for the reception to the dining areas to the rooms, City Lodge hotel was a pleasant experience. The room and bath were spacious and comfortable. The only reason, I did not give it 5 starts is because the bed was a bit too firm for my liking. Otherwise, would recommend.

The staff are friendly, but not very accommodating. The room service menu is limited, and you can not order anything apart from what's on the room service menu. The hot water was warm, not hot. Towles are small. There is only 1 plug outlet at the writing table, nothing next to the bed. The room was clean and quite spacious. The small writing light was faulty, kept turning on and off while in use. Nothing was done to fix it even when it was reported to reception. It was not a great experience.

City lodge is a great option for Airport transit passengers. Our flight arrived late at OR Tambo Airport and therefore a stay over was necessary to catch the next morning flight. The hotel is within the airport precinct and therefore made our transition perfect. The rooms are pretty neat with nice decor. Liked the place

Although it was short, I had a wonderful stay. An extension to the airport, you probably couldn't get a closer place to stay when you need to catch an early morning flight. The rooms are lovely, very spacious and have all you need. The bathrooms are lovely too, you can grab a hot shower or take a relaxing bath. Room service was a bit slow, but the quality makes up for it. I'd definitely stay here again.

Great overnight while transmitting Johannesburg to early flight to Singapore. Rooms very nice. Very palatable SA wines. The food from the buffet was very acceptable however the advertised beef roast was badly carved which made it tough and unpleasant. The service has been absolutely amazing. Thanks to all the staff.

Close to the airport with intermittent shuttles to and from. Convenient breakfast to help one start the day. Friendly staff providing great service and care in both the restaurant and at the bar. Spacious rooms that are appropriate for all classes of travelers as well as mere visitors to Johannesburg. Additionally, it provides easy access to the multiple conference venues and facilities that are dotted throughout the East Rand of Gauteng Province.

This is a standard 3 star airport hotel. Very handy location for flights but unfortunately the service we experienced was poor. The room applicative allocations were not as had been booked and it took us over an hour to check in. No apology received. Ended up eating late with tired children defeating the point of using this hotel. Breakfast was pretty average too.

The best thing about city lodge is the proximity to O.R. Tambo International Airport. When exiting your flight, you are a few minutes walk to the lobby. The hotel is clean and comfortable. They have a nice lobby restaurant bar and restaurant. Employees are friendly, and the check-in process is efficient.

Very easy to access , you don't need to leave the airport, just 10 min walk and you are there . My room , though enjoyed for just one night, was a true haven of comfort. The breakfast was good too.

We had a long layover in the day so booked a day room here and it was perfect. Take the elevator to level one once you’re out the baggage reclaim and you’ll see signs for city lodge hotel. It’s no more than a 5 min walk. They have nice food for lunch here and a pool also to chill round. They were very helpful too as we ordered a load of wine to the hotel which they took receipt of for us ready for when we arrived.

We arrived very late and stood in a queue which was terribly long. Took 20 min to check in. The room was clean however there was a weird smell in the bathroom. And the shower water didn't drain. We were in a rush the next morning to catch our flight and I forgot my sandals in the room. I tried to contact the hotel on many occasions to ask if the cleaners had discovered my sandals while cleaning but I didn't hear back after my calls. I emailed the city lodge and after sending a follow up email someone responded to say they didn't find anything. I'm sure they were stolen no surprises. I would not recommend this hotel and never stay again. Bad reflection on South African hotel and tourism. 👎🏽👎🏽

We got the opportunity to travel to Mauritius as part of my company's incentive award trip. As we stay in Cape Town, we were required to travel to OR Tambo first and then fly to Mauritius the next day with the rest of the group. We stayed at the City Lodge the night before our trip and one night after upon returning. The overall experience was average. For the first night, the check in took very long. The room was average and there was no water available which I have never experienced at any other hotel/bnb etc. It is a basic necessity that should have been included. The shower had rounded glass doors which didn't close properly and there were clear signs of mold along the edges of the shower which is not acceptable. The aircon was good and the bed was average. The room service was good and food was fairly tasty. The second time we stayed at the hotel, the check in process was quicker and the shower was a lot better (It seemed to be one that was more recently renovated). The only issue was that the extractor fan was almost non existent which is not ideal when showering and the water from the shower messed all over the bathroom. The food at the buffet was fairly good but the service was quite slow and the waitress expected a tip for bringing us cooldrink and her attitude was not the best. The best thing about the hotel is the location if you are travelling elsewhere.

The location is great if you have just come from Airport and need rest or going to board a flight soon. Service is average, the staff serving us at reception came across as slightly annoyed. We needed help getting our stuff from car and staff were slow to assist but we got assistance neverthless. The room is okay at best and service is okay as well.

Helpful and friendly staff. Great breakfast buffet! Easy access from OR Thambo airport.

  • 4/5 Edward P. 2 years ago on Google
Not sure of the reason but the queue for reception was really long and slow when I got there. Staff were helpful and professional. It is super convenient being in the airport, probably why it was so popular. My room on the left hand side of reception had a bad rattle of exterior pipes or something all night so I would suggest a room in the other half of the hotel.

Pleasant hotel, facilities in good order. Within walking distance of the airport, nice to stay in during the first night after a long flight from Amsterdam. Checking in is a bit slow, reception has to perform a lot of admin actions.

Excellent stay.... it is however a mission to get to hotel Reception. Please have a re-look at installing better directional info boards from the perspective of someone totally foreign to ORT

  • 5/5 Leon G. 2 years ago on Google
As can be expected: Very nice. Great restaurant with comprehensive menu. On airport premises it seems, hence ideal for the traveler looking to stay over before or after a flight. Nice rooms that is well equipped. Wi-fi. Wheelchair accessible. The only negative: It took me 3 passes to get the correct entry to the hotel when driving, small, almost unnoticeable sign indicating the turn-off, but, admittedly this may just be poor execution on my side.

I have never stayed at an airport hotel, so did not expect mutch, but I am impressed. This is a quite lovely. With very friendly staff and great var and lounge. If you are travelling and need to do an overnight stop this is a place to consider.

My son and I have stayed here many times in the past but don't intend to again. After checking in upon arrival from the US in August my son went to fill out water bottles at the machines available on our floor. it offers both sparkling and still water. We both took a drink and immediately said it tasted awful! We threw it out. Needless to say I became violently ill early the next day just prior to our flight to Zambia and my son about 24 hrs later. Our fault not reporting the taste immediately before we got ill! When we returned 3 weeks later and told the front desk, they said they would check the cooler and found it tested fine. Point...prior to our initial stay....the hotel was nearly empty....coming back 3 weeks later it was full with conventions. No compensation or anything offered and we will never stay there again.

It's a convenient hotel. Modern look and very close the airport terminals. Great customer service at the front desk. Room service quick if you've order food. Lack of drinks to choose from was nice. Bathroom has a huge bathtub and not the same can be said about the shower. Room wasn't so clean as I expected, found hair in the sink. Shower door was not aligned properly therefore water spills everywhere. The floor corners of the shower wasn't so clean. Generally it's a great place & I'll definitely be using again.

I got into OR Tambo at just about 5am and it took me less than 3 minutes walk to get to City Lodge Hotel. Right from the security who helped with my baggage to the receptionist who was very welcoming, I really did enjoy my stay. And yes, the rooms where very clean and spacious while breakfast was yummy. 10/10 recommend.

Key advice: book direct. We stayed twice during our trip, first time through an agent and second direct with City Lodge. The room was so much better the second time, like a different hotel. Nice pool area, and restaurant is fine! Can get busy at check in, staff are great!

  • 1/5 Mary F. 1 year ago on Google
Reception staff were courteous BUT after an eleven hour flight when it turned out my booking was for a different hotel (not City Lodge's fault) I was not permitted to use the toilet facilities even in the reception area. Bad enough for any traveller but as a pensioner I am really not impressed. The (security?) man who escorted me to the correct lift back to the airport was kind and helpful.

  • 3/5 Colin M. 2 years ago on Google
Fairly convenient for an airport hotel since access is entirely indoors and a short walk from the baggage claim area. Room and other facilities were fairly nice but (like many other hotels) the bathroom basin drained very slowly and the heater in our room didn’t work. Both of our room keys expired before checkout at separate times requiring two waits at the reception desk. Food was average and service average at best.

  • 5/5 Paul De V. 2 years ago on Google
We missed the bus with a delayed flight from New York. We were in emergency mode when the friendly professional staff of City Lodge helped us to get a room. The whole process was very smooth and the room was worth the 5 stars. We could choose between taking a bath or a shower as our room had both. The porters was not over bearing and the room service was quick and friendly. This is a must for tired traveler.

  • 4/5 Lulamela M. 2 years ago on Google
Had a wonderful stay at City Lodge. The rooms are decent, kept neat and safe. The food down at the restaurant is delicious and reasonably priced. The landline to the restaurant is usually busy but once they pick up the phone, room service is quick. Unfortunately I only took pictures of the view not the room.

The feels of luxury in the service, the crew was really kind and helpful, always greeting u with huge smiles. The room was really clean and cozy but the cabine shower was leaking on the ground. It's pretty far from the airport even though u don't go out but I suppose it's for security and some technical reasons since the hotel is almost in the airport. Overall a really good experience I wouldn't mind doing again and again

  • 5/5 Brian T. 1 year ago on Google
As I live out of town always stay overnight when changing planes. Staff very helpful although it is a long walk if pushing a loaded trolley from arrivals. Breakfasts are excellent in choice and value but be warned this is a very busy place and the wait at reception may take awhile.

  • 4/5 Vusumzi H. 1 year ago on Google
On Service my rating is based on the service i got on the restaurant side when a waitress served other nicer and serve our table as if she was just doing it. But then the food was nice. Standard that I expect from someone service should be constant and not vary by in terms of who you are serving

Very convenient hotel at OR Tambo Airport. Rooms are a great size & well appointed. Staff are friendly & helpful. Good onsite restaurant - offering a nice selection at reasonable prices. Definitely recommend staying here ahead of taking a flight

The were a couple of rough edges in the upkeep of the location. The toilet in my room leaked and some of the paint in the halls needed a little love but the room was clean and the bed was comfortable. Also all the staff I interacted with were very helpful and friendly. The location is great in that you don't need to leave the inside of the airport to get to the hotel, though a little difficult to find. You need to go down a floor from arrivals, past the rental cars and either up the escalators or to the end of the corridor to the elevator, up to level 4 and walk up the ramp until you get to the specific elevator.

  • 3/5 Bob K. 1 year ago on Google
It really should be 4 stars. Hits and misses; Hits: nice room, comfortable bed, convenient indoor access to the airport, friendly helpful staff, the included breakfast buffet was very good. Misses: the shower leaked and flooded part of the bathroom floor (happened to us here in 2019 too), the check in process with a lot of people waiting was agonizingly slow (30+ minutes), at dinner we ordered from the menu rather than go up for the buffet and our food took over 1 hour to arrive which is unacceptable. It was not busy in the restaurant at the time.

  • 4/5 Wesley S. 1 year ago on Google
The room itself is fine, nothing bad nor special. The location is walkable from the hotel where you dont exit the hotel. The rooms are very difficult to find as the place is a maze. Signage is very poor. We thought we were dumb until we ran into another couple having the same issue on the floor. The line to check in was long. Took about 20 minutes just to not get my key programed right and had to wait again to get the key to work. The breakfast was great! I would say it is the best breakfast at a hotel I have ever seen. Great selection and quality. We ate by the pool and enjoyed the waterfall sounds with our meal before departing.

Perfect hotel for a quick lay over. Within walking distance to terminals and check in, you can get there without leaving the building in about 10 minutes from international arrivals. Clean rooms, friendly staff and half decent restaurant Inhouse. With added wifi and all basic amenities in the rooms it's perfect for travelers. Can definitely recommend

Can't praise this airport hotel enough. Check in was easy, a water hydration station was provided. Breakfast was really good with a lot of variety. Rooms were large and comfy. Just being able to walk to check in was great, no taxi or transfer needed!

We stopped the night at City Lodge Tambo Airport as we were getting a connecting flight the following morning. As it’s connected to the terminal building, it was very easy to find. You simply follow the signs and then it has its own lift, which takes you straight to reception. Check-in was efficient, and we were soon given the keys and headed to our room. The rooms were fine for a one-night stay, nothing outstanding but everything did the job well. The bed was comfortable and the air conditioning was good too. The following morning we had breakfast, which was very good, and featured a big range of fresh fruit, yoghurts, pastries, cold cuts, cheeses and much more. There was a big hot breakfast buffet too. There was also a nice-looking pool that guests could use too, however, we didn’t get the chance due to our early flight. For the price we paid and the convenience, the hotel ticked all the necessary boxes. It was no-frills and did the trick for the one night we were transferring.

I had a wonderful experience. This hotel is perfect especially after a long flight. Every staff member I encountered, from the check- in to the cleaning staff were delightful and eager to help! And what makes it more amazing is that the hotel is just a walking distance from the airport. Will definitely recommend it to anyone

I was ok with the fact that there are no clear directions to the hotel parking. I was ok with the fact that the lady at reception couldn't be bothered by the fact that I was parked on a different level after I asked about the hotel parking. I was ok with the shabby furniture in the room, but a cold shower at 5am, because seemingly there was no hot water, was just the last straw. The only good thing about the whole experience is the location.
