I very rarely give a bad review or put a company on blast BUT if you are planning a trip to Key West, save yourself time, energy, and a huge amount of grief and DO NOT book with AUTHORS GREATHOUSE KEY WEST! local lady booked this place for me weeks ago. We were so excited to visit. At booking, they charged my card for the first nights stay. My flights were canceled due to the catastrophic event, Hurricane Ian. The State of Florida was in a state of emergency. My agent so she reached out to them and asked them to rebook me for different dates or refund me and they refused. She’s emailed multiple times to no avail. After refusing to work with her on my behalf, she emailed multiple times to document that the trip was canceled. I, too have called and left voice mails and also emailed multiple times. They didn’t return any calls or reply to my emails. Today, even though they knew it was canceled, they billed me for the entire stay causing further frustration. I have disputed with my credit card company. The sad part is, I originally just wanted to reschedule and she has begged them to do the right thing. They are greedy people and refused. I’ve been informed that the majority of the other places in the area have either refunded or rebooked people and those businesses did the right thing! This company has refused every single request. 110% greed and 0% customer service. BEWARE IF YOU BOOK WITH THEM!

We got to spend a long weekend as a couple here, and we could not have been happier! Starting off we had a great experience with the helpful person named Jonathan who worked the phone and front desk. While we were hoping to just drop off luggage since we arrived with a morning flight, he went above and beyond by allowing us not only to leave our bags, but an early check in and upgraded room (based on availability). Can't plan on that, but it shows the level of hospitality the place has, like a small business as opposed to a big chain. He was helpful and had great suggestions about town. While the guesthouse was not extravagantly swanky, there were some nice recent improvements, and most importantly the place was very very clean and comfortable. We had great rest there and enjoyed the breakfast, coffee, and heated, jetted pool. It's a bit of a walk into town but totally doable, and you aren't paying the highest prices like if you were staying on Duval Street. We would definitely come back, and thank you to Authors Guesthouse!

I booked with these criminals through Travelocity whom I will never use again. I booked the room for $170.00 days before my anticipated arrival. An emergency forced me to cancel my reservation the evening before checkin but the office was closed after 5:00 pm, so I left a message. The next day I called and cancelled. I was informed my entire deposit of $170.00 would be forfeited. I don’t mind paying a penalty of like half, but not the entire amount. Beware of these gangsters and their outrageous cancellation policy and don’t let it happen to you!

Horrible! We stayed in The Herily room. The bed must have been 50 years old. So uncomfortable. Room was ridiculously small. Obvious structural problems inside & outside. No exhaust fan in the bathroom. Pool was tiny. Walls were so thin we could hear EVERTHING in the room next to us. Don't get excited over the breakfast. Coffee was gross. We left exhausted. Definitely overpriced. I wouldn't pay more than $75 per night to stay there.

Needed a good value room in Key West (hard task), and found Authors. The place gets 5 stars because the price advertised was actually what I paid, meaning no BS "resort fees" (when I booked) ... 10 Stars for that policy. My room was basic (Library Room), King Bed, TV, Bathroom, that was next to another room. Improvements to the room would be a small table for those of us with work needs, change the shower head out to something removable because the shower is small and there was no room to reposition and ensure all soap was washed off.

BEWARE!!!!Do not book with them this place is extremely dirty. I seen roaches under my bed and in the bathroom. Mold and mildew around the vents and the shower. And stains on the sheets. The pictures are veryyyyy deceiving. The worse part is they refuse to give me my refund. Book with them if u want to leave with crabs or an STD that’s how dirty they were!!! Just don’t do it

We stayed in this hotel in November 2019. I had VERY BAD memories of this hotel because the room SMELLED LIKE PEE. I don't know if a human or a animal peed in this room but is was so disgusting that we had to sleep in this room. We had no chance to complain about this issue because we checked in late and left the hotel early and there was no staff present. The rooms were small but they had a balcony where I spend most of the time to escape from this pee smell. The interior was very old-fashined, the walls were so thin so that we can hear everything from the hallway, the carpets were old and dirty, the bath room was very tight. We had no space for our suitcases. The rooms were not equiped with an air conditioning, only with a fan on the ceiling. The rooms was very expensive as other hotels in Key West, but this choice was terrible. Better visit a hotel chain instead of this hotel with very low hygienic standards and bad service. It was my second stay in Key West. Key West is great but THIS HOTEL IS ABSOLUTELY NOT RECOMMENDABLE. I feel sick even when I think of this hotel room.

Nice and more quiet area in Key West and only about a mile from Duval Street and Mallory Square. The staff is friendly and great. The room was very clean and had everything we needed. A nice range of continental breakfast is available in the office from 8-10am. There is an ice machine along with a water fountain to fill up your bottle. There is also a small and quaint salt pool on site. Would stay again.

We stayed in the Hemingway for a week and it is beautiful! Very clean and spacious. The kitchen is fully equipped and the staff friendly and welcoming. Wish we could have stayed longer! Close to everything, we had such an amazing experience!!

Have stayed here several times and always a great experience. The only reason for 4 stars on the room "Artist" was that the toilet rocked and the tp holder was right in the way of the toilet. Also the video is of a rooster that lives across the street and starts crowing at 3:30 in the morning. Ear plugs fixed this problem easily though.

Good value for money and nice rooms. Also parking was easy. Service was so-so. The biggest turnoff was the breakfast. We came 9.30, (because we went to the beach in the morning) where the person at the front desk said they were no fruits, but we could just take the wrapped muffins and bagels?! (No thanks). We had to ask 2 times to get milk for the cereals, which apparently was unsuitable for him. The coffee was also refilled, a bit later. But this was really disappointing. 3 BIG stars though!

Room in the central area convenient to everything. We rented a motorbike, which was the best solution to quickly reach all the points of interest without excessive parking costs. The room was tiny and not exceptionally comfortable. The person who welcomed us was a little distracted and snubbed us. There are no good restaurants nearby within walking distance of a few minutes. September is low season, and we spent little for one night. I wouldn't have paid more for what I got.

We wish we had more time than we did in Key West, because we would have loved to have stayed longer here. We had the Audubon room and couldn't have been happier with the cleanliness and size, the bed was really comfortable and the check-in/check out was easy. There were only 2 parking spots, so 1st come 1st served...but that was not an issue as the street next to the place had plenty of parking on both sides.

Tucked away on the other side of the cemetery and away from the Key West nightlife, this guesthouse offers a quiet respite in a residential part of the island. Limited parking. Comfortable, unique rooms. You do have to walk 5-15 minutes to get to many attractions.

Spent one night at Authors Guesthouse while on an overnight trip to Key West. We could not have been happier with the accomodations. The room was immaculately clean, the front desk extremely helpful and the location just perfect. Will saty there again on our next visit to Key West!!

Awesome spot, easy check in and check out. Clean rooms and linens. Easy to get anywhere in Key West! Two parking spots otherwise on street free parking.

This was a great place to stay. The living space was quite adequate for short stays. There was a heated pool. Most regular amenities in the rooms like TVs and a fully functional kitchen. It's just a few minutes away from the heart of town. Would definitely stay there again.

Great location, clean, comfortable room, and bed. Reasonably priced for a weekend getaway in Key West. The only downside, housekeeping was cleaning the room next door to us early in the morning and woke us up with all the noise. Overall, it was a good experience.

Great price value for the location, rooms are very well taken care of and very clean. Walking distance to downtown, but would definitely recommend renting bikes or driving if you plan to reach the beach. Staff was also very nice. Breakfast could have included a little more, but other than that everything was perfect!

We were greeted by a very nice women who took us to our room, offered us breakfast items when she found out we would be checking out before the scheduled breakfast time. We had great service, a clean room, quaint place, the bed and pillows were comfy. Our room opened to walk way to pool/jacuzzi and I couldn't get any rest because of loud guests, but that was not the fault of the guesthouse. The rest of my family slept great!

The place is situated in a great spot. The location makes it easy to get to key points of interest in Key West The room had nice amenities but we had issues with air conditioning twice during our stay. Back to back days the air was out and had to have management come the following day as it was after 9 pm when we returned. For the nightly room charge, we expected a lot more.

Terrible place. Poor management, horrible breakfast, lukewarm whirlpool advertised as a pool, overpriced. There is NO POOl! The only good things about this place are the location and comfortable room. But there are plenty of other less expensive, nicer guesthouses in this area. DO NOT stay here if you value good service, a friendly staff and/or a decent breakfast OR if you want a nice pool.

Overall, we enjoyed this place. Our room, Poet, was very large and included a table and chairs and two small sofas that weren’t very comfortable. Wi-Fi was pretty good in the room. Two issues we had: there’s only one lamp in the room. They need one above the table and maybe a floor lamp or two. Very dark. Also, the breakfast doesn’t change. Exact same thing every day. Not great if you’re staying more than a day or two.

We stayed in the "Wild" room last night. The room was clean and so was the bathroom. The bed was very comfortable. There was also a fridge in the room. I missed a suitcase stand, shower gel and Kleenex. It would be helpful to have 2 sockets, one for the lamp and the other for charging the mobile phone. The air conditioning worked well. The breakfast was ok. We left our car on the street there and walked everywhere.

Great place and staff so friendly! We stayed in a separate cottage (Williams) which was very clean and quiet. Spend a little more and you’ll get no adjoining walls! It had its own kitchenette and living room with a small little porch and chairs. Definitely worth it! The spa/small pool was wonderful after a day around town. This guest house is far enough from the craziness and early morning rooster crows near Duval St. Breakfast was great and was just enough to get us going and have a few snacks for the day. Rent bikes from Island Bicycle and you can get around town easily - no rental car needed. Would definitely recommend the Williams cottage at Author’s Guesthouse!

Very clean, comfortable, private and quiet. Rooms cozy. In a more residential neighborhood. A bit of a walk to Duval Street. Especially on a hot day. Key West only 2 by 4 miles though. Small pool available to guests. Breakfast daily. Outdoor tables.

Barby is very knowledgeable and helpful in getting to know the area with places to go, see and do while we stayed in Key West.

A nicely decorated 2 story house converted to many rentable rooms with a very friendly host. Very thing is good except the street parking and the all night car road noise. Bring earplugs and travel light so you don't need to unpack the car on the street.

Room was updated and clean. Shower was dangerously slippery. Breakfast could have used some protein like boiled eggs. All carbs and sugar. Great location. Biggest negative room walls are paper thin and you can hear everything. And generally, guests were not courteous of others and slammed doors and talking loudly in the middle of the night.

Nice place in general, clean and staff was very friendly, this 4 stars. However, we have stayed in a lot of the B&B's in the area and this was our least favorite. Someone should have taken the time to put an electrical plug in the bathroom or at the very least had an area with a plug and mirror in the room. The continental breakfast was just about as basic as you could get and most places in KW that advertise "free parking" mean some sort of assigned parking, not fend for yourself in the street. Anyone who has street parked here, knows what a challenge it can sometimes be. I had in fact picked this place partially because of the free parking, as opposed to no parking because of a handicapped situation, so was a bit disappointed when the best spot I could find was a few blocks away.

My husband stayed a week while he did his captains class. He said the staff was friendly and the only downfall was there was no microwave and the coffee tasted like water but everything else was great me and my son came to stay the last night and it is a cute quiet place I would honestly stay again if we are ever to come back to key west. The breakfast has bagels, cereal, muffins, coffee(I wouldn’t drink it), juice, yogurt, snack bar! You should book here it does have a tiny pool to just hang out in!
