Charming Khiva is a journey back in time. The ancient city's vibe is captivating, with its stunning architecture and rich history. Walking through the narrow streets feels like stepping into a fairy tale. A must-visit!

Walled city of Khiva , one of the Silk Road city , we stayed inside Ichan Kala hotel , walking distance to museums , restaurants, 1 day is enough to cover most of the sights here . I really like this place . So magical

This was one of the most fabulous locations I have ever wandered around. You pay an entrance fee one - at the West Gate I think - and then pretty much everything inside is covered. Even ignoring the main attractions, just walking around the old city is spectacular with amazing architecture and views. It also felt remarkably safe and I walked solo both early morning and late evening, something I have learned to be wary of in European cities.

One of the most magical ancient cities I've had the privilege of visiting. The loud music and street stalls detract somewhat from the authenticity of the place, but it is still a surreal experience walking around and soaking it all in. It is even more mesmerising at night when the landmarks are lit up. Definitely spend a couple of nights in Khiva if you can. NB: The 3-tier ticket system I'd read about online is no more. The entrance fee is now a standard 150,000 UZS for foreigners plus an additional fee if you want to climb up the minarets or city walls. The Pahlavan Mahmud Mausoleum is not included in the ticket and costs an additional 25,000 UZS to enter.

It’s a very very good site to cover once in your life. The only thing which bothered me were the tickets and it’s fares. Multiple times they were asking foreigners to pay for different minarets. In museum tickets the Mina rates City view is not included. Firstly you pay 150000 to explore museums and then you pay 100000 to climb the minarates (only 1 operational minarets) Islam khoja. Atmosphere is incredible and you can climb several places the reach the inner side of walls to get a Panaromic view of the city. Overall a mixed experience of joy and happiness as well as sadness.

Considered as UNESCO World Heritage Centre. The old town retains more than 50 historic monuments and 250 old houses, dating primarily from the eighteenth or nineteenth centuries. Djuma Mosque, for instance, was established in the tenth century and rebuilt from 1788 to 1789, although its celebrated hypostyle hall still retains 112 columns taken from ancient structures. The most spectacular features of Ichan Kala are its crenellated brick walls and four gates, one at each side of the rectangular fortress. Although the foundations are believed to have been laid in the tenth century, present-day 10-metre-high (33 ft) walls were erected mostly in the late seventeenth century and later repaired.

Khiva is amazingly well preserved city. It is living history, like Rome, Cairo, Isfahan, and Athens. It is best kept history of Asia. The best historical cityin Central Asia.

One of the best places in Central Asia for amateurs of the history. Medieval fortress and citadel are perfectly preserved ATTENTION ! Do not get to the trap of local guides seating right at the entrance ! This could be a fraud. We have got one like this and had to stop the visit as he repeated the same every time and was not prepared. See in photos - to avoid! All other points are excellent ! I do recommend Khiva to visit, you will never regret

A majestic city in the middle of the Karakum desert with it's fascinating monuments. Have visited Khiva numerous times and since I am a Google local guide from 2018 with pride I want to publish thispost. My ancestors dwelled around this beautiful and ancient city which has long lasting history some filled with peaceful years or existence and some with years of war. The city has been rebuilt numerous times. Also I have taken photos of the threes which is my passion.

(Translated by Google) Ichan-Kala is the historic inner city of Khiva in Uzbekistan surrounded by powerful walls, which became the first World Heritage Site in Central Asia. Built over the centuries (the most ancient architectural monuments date back to the XIV century), fortifications and palaces, mosques and madrasahs, mausoleums and minarets, caravanserais and baths turned Ichan-Kala into a unique city-monument. Old Khiva received the official status of a city-reserve in 1968. Legend has it that during the construction of the citadel of Ichan-Kala, clay was used from the same places from where the Prophet Muhammad took it when he built Medina. The lake that appeared later is considered sacred. Another legend tells that the well of Kheivak, the water from which had an amazing taste, was dug by Shem, the son of the biblical Noah. Also, according to legend, the construction of Khorezm was started by Shem. Passing through Khorezm, he fell asleep. In those days, there was a desert on the site of the city. In a dream, he saw that the city was surrounded by fire. Waking up, he began construction, and he laid the first foundation. During the construction, he dug a well and, quenching his thirst, said “Hey wak! Hey wak! ”, Which means“ how good ”. It was after this that the city took the name Khiva.

There is a ticket sales near the Ota Darbaza. There you can buy a pass to the all sights all at once. We bought one adult and two child for only 10$. On holiday days the price is even lower and sometimes the same ticket can be used next day.

The city architecture is beautiful and along its history make the trip worth it. But with it comes the tourist price of many sellers among the streets, souvenir shops and the incredibly high prices that could be doubling year after year...it’s insane and sad too see it happening while it transition to a fully touristy town attraction

Awesome preserved old town, the entree is expensive 15€ as most of the museum (although in old madrassas) aren't interesting for Western standart, also no map or entree list is given. Some of the buildings where closed. But still an awesome experience.

(Translated by Google) A very interesting monument of oriental architecture. Medieval walled city. The walls of adobe bricks have been preserved from the very foundation. Inside the mosque, madrasah, Khan's palaces (you do not have to judge strictly, are very specific by European standards), the mausoleum of Pakhlovan Makhmud - the national hero of the Khorezm khanate. There are still residential buildings on the territory of the fortress. Pay attention to the wood carvings on the doors. There is also a lively trade in souvenirs and products of local craftsmen. There is where to eat.
