We got a tour of how Kigali came to be, past colonial eras and the justice system in place before they were colonized. The tour guide was soft spoken, very detailed and patient also. I also got to see the reptiles they had at the museum. Totally recommend this place as one of the attraction sites to see if you are visiting Kigali for the first time.

It is OK to visit this former residence of German viceroy to Rwanda, Kandt, but you will not miss anything if you don't. There are a number of photos from Rwanda in the late 19th century auntie at the end of the colonial period. There are just a handful of items, but the lace can not be really called a museum. The 6000 RWF entrance fee also seems excessive. Also, there is a museum personnel who constantly watches you, which makes the experience rather uneasy. It is good to learn about the colonial period, but the management can do better in managing the place. There is also a part where they keep some snakes and crocodiles, which I did not visit. It did not seem to be a very good place to keep animals. Overall, it is not strongly recommended to visit this museum, buy if you have some extra time, it's just OK and average.

A very nice and interesting museum. Great and polite staff and very helpful showing me around. Kandt Museum is definitely my favourite and a huge tourist site of Kigali. I would recommend to go there if you decide to go to Kigali. A very nice museum and helped me understand a bit more of Richard Kandt. There was also a little alligator near the museum.

Great place to visit. It is easy to find and it is quite beautiful incide. You get ticket at the entrance and can choose what you would like to visit an exposition which will tell you about culture, it's history , crafts or you can pay only for the tickets to see the snakes and a small crocodile. People who are working there are really friendly and openly answer on all the questions you get. Highly recommended!

This place is really over hyped though. Only interesting for lovers of history! It's not fun. Just Rwanda's history before the war. But you can see reptiles in a section of the museum if you love them.

The only building you can find in Kigali built by the Germans colonizers, great exhibition inside about the German colonial past, importants insights of rwandese historians. Take your time to visit this place.

Kandt Museum has the best view of Mt Kigali, Mt Jali and Mt Shyorongi The museum has facts that explained evolution of life, description of Flora and Fauna of Rwandan Natural Parks (Nyungwe, Akagera and Volcanoes), geological background of Rwanda, German and Rwanda shared history and exhibition of live reptiles (esp. Snakes)

6,000 RWF entry fee for the Kandt House "museum" is almost criminal. There's not that much to see here and I was offered a "snake and reptile" experience for an additional fee. I'm glad that I declined it because the reptile enclosure looks to be an incredibly state of affairs. If you set your expectations correctly and are ok with the entry fee for what amounts to a few small rooms of information and artifacts, come for a visit.

I had an awesome time visiting the Kandt House Museum. The history of Rwanda before we colonial masters came and their resilience to resist them a number of times is pretty beautiful. I like that they also have some live animals (such as snakes, crocodile) and it made the visit also worth it. If you have some time when you visit Kigali, you should go there and you can sit for a few hours to watch the full documentary. My tour guide was patient and thorough with the details of the History.

Entry fee is from 2,000 rwanda franc but to have access to the whole museum, budget 10,000. The museum wasnt always a museum, it was a residential home to Mr Richard Kandt.

I had a great tour. My guide, Oscar, was kind, informative, and delightful. This was my first visit to Rwanda and it was so nice to hear about the history of your beautiful city and country. I decided not to see the snakes since I'm deathly afraid of them. Thank you Oscar.

Interesting pictures taken during Germany colonial era to Rwanda. Impressive to see how Kigali city center was been looking back in 1885s. Please don't miss this chance.

It's awesome to see that variety of snakes you hardly can find elsewhere. It should inspired environmentalists to see how they can sustain some endangered species.

Learning of where Kigali's first foreign settlers dwelled is quite impressive. The first German settlers and roles. It further helps one learn of Rwanda's old days, evolution of Architecture, and cultural heritage Great space, with great readily available customer care. To Note; It needs a Cafe, or Refreshment area for visitors.

A very good look at the colonial history of Rwanda. Most interesting fact is the house is the same house Kandt built. But the journey through time makes it worth a visit.

You are NOT allowed to take pictures inside this "museum". So if you're a tourist hoping to bring back souvenirs, forget about it. Makes absolutely no sense that visitors can't take any pictures of what they have actually PAID to see.

Kandt House Museum, previously known as Kandt House Museum of Natural History about 1km west from downtown Kigali, I'ts under the responsibility of the Institute of National Museums of Rwanda. The museum was residence to a German explorer Richard Kandt who it is now named after. There's a wide view of the city from the back of the Museum (picture attached) The have a one crocodile in the museum and large collections of reptiles: different kinds of the snakes. The tour was quite quick as I spent about 40-50mins. There's a tuck shop in the reception where you can buy books and some art crafts. There's a visitors register where you can sign and drop a goodwill message.

My wife and I visited Kandt House on our second trip to Kigali. We are very glad we did. It was very interesting and we definitely recommend going if you have the time. I was very impressed with the staff that work there. I had an issue with my credit card so I ended up paying cash. They actually called to confirm and assure me that the charge didn't go through. These are good honest people!!🙏 The guide was excellent!

This looks like a beautiful museum. The gardens are very peaceful and the gift shop is good. However, I showed up after having walked 30mins (don’t recommend walking it takes you down a dirt track) and the museum is closed for renovations. Don’t know when it’s opening again, but call ahead to check so you don’t get stuck like me!

Super eclectic museum. The main exhibit on life in Rwanda before colonial times was interesting, the modern art displays were out of place and the reptile pavilion was totally unrelated but ok if you like snakes, I guess. Student admission was 3000 RWF for the main exhibit and another 2000 for the reptiles.

As a result, the German colonized Rwanda with German troops, but unlike other countries, he became acquainted with Musinga, the Rwandan king at that time, to teach guns, give guns, and protest against the kings rather than colonial rule that we generally recognize.
