The Lyndon Baines Johnson Memorial Grove may be the least known memorial in all of Washington, D.C. It's on Columbia Island in the Potomac River near the Virginia side. The island is mainly frequented by bicyclists and runners along the Mt. Vernon Trail that passes through it. There's a marina on the island and one other memorial (Navy-Marchant Marine Memorial) and that's it. To access this memorial to the president with quite the personality, park in the lot by the marina. They give you three hours of free parking, which is plenty. Walk north through the park named after President Johnson's wife (Lady Bird). The memorial is an interestingly shaped rock from Texas to reflect the president's interesting personality. There's a green garden surrounding it meant to be used for reflection. There are benches along the plaza. What is beautiful is the view across the Potomac River of the National Mall. Stunning!

A surprisingly quiet spot among the trees in this area. Quite a nice monument.

This grove is a lovely spot in what first seems to be a desolate field between the Pentagon and the Potomac River. The parking is free (but do not park in the Pentagon parking lot). The walk is slightly overgrown with vegetation, but it has a refreshing natural feel. The view across the Potomac opens up when you approach the granite statue. It also appears as though the park is open past dusk.

I’ve parked at the Pentagon and walked around this memorial a few times now! Many people watch the July 4th fireworks from here. Nice views of DC across the Potomac River.

This is a wonderful outdoor walking trail, grove, and bridge. There are grassy areas, a meadow, pine trees, a stone sculpture, and, on the river side, a sweeping view of the Potomac River, the Key Bridge, and the Washington Monument. There are boat rentals. Tourists, walkers, and joggers fill the trail. Wildlife, including Aquatic and land animals abound.

It is a wonderful place to reflect on the legacy of President Lyndon Johnson. Also, it is a great place to relax and enjoy the scenery. The Jefferson, Washington and Lincoln Memorials can be seen in the distance.

Is a quiet grove in the mist of a busy capital district. The path from the Washington Parkway side is clear and an easy walk. It leads to natural stone pillar with quotes from Lyndon Blaines Johnson. The quotes are hard to read. Need to be highlighted again. The path from the Pentagon side leads you across a foot bridge. Both entrances are designed for ease of access. Great local place to enjoy a park and some great views of Washington DC.

A very nice park to visit. It is very clean although I was there as a volunteer to clean the park. There are biking trails as well. So a very nice park for jogging and biking.

Came 4th of July, great view of the fireworks. Leaving was a nightmare, but I knew it would be. 1.5 hours to get out of the parking lot.. we were probably in the last 40% of cars to leave despite not being parked very far away from the bridge over the water... Our row was just locked, literally no cars in our row moved an inch, or the one on either side for the first 50 minutes, Still possibly worth it. Some guy and his wife were seated all evening, and 5 minutes into the fireworks they stood up, which was really annoying.

Beautiful walks, quiet and off the beaten path in DC. Will come back with paddleboard/kayak and explore via water.

A peaceful and serene area that belies the noise and bustle just beyond its borders.

If all the national memorials were ranked, this would be an F tier. The site consists of a grove of trees (throughout the island) and a red rock. As the other reviews indicate, it could be a nice park area to visit, by car -- but don't attempt to visit on foot. If you're on the wrong side of the freeway there's no way to get to the other, and there's a large amount of noise from the cars and planes overhead. The best view you can get of the only actual feature to see (the red rock) is by walking up the grass close to the highway. It took around a half hour to walk here from Jefferson memorial, but be prepared for another half hour to the nearest place to access a Lyft or the metro (Arlington station, blue line). Finally, watch out for bikes -- a fair number of bikers and runners seem seem to frequent the path, and they have to share the same lane.

very pretty, cute little walk. I wish there was a place to stamp the national park passport here but unfortunately I had to go all the way to the George Washington memorial parkway visitor center to do that. still a great park!

I thought the monolith wasn't very symbolic but the area itself surrounding the monolith was very beautiful and the view was nice too.
