I truly wish that I could rate this establishment zero stars, I cannot put into words how atrocious our visit was this Sunday afternoon. The barman coughed in my face without putting his hand to his mouth and proceeded to charge me a little over £5.50 for the worst pint of Peroni that I have ever tasted. In the two hours that we were there they never attempted to clear a single table around us. Eventually my partner, whilst queuing for 18 minutes just to order a drink, asked one of the bar staff to remove the dirty plates from the next table. Said bar staff wandered over and looked at the filthy table, huffed, and wandered off back to two other bar staff chatting and looking at their phones. I would sack every single one of them, bone idle is an understatement. Stupidly we ordered some snacks, onion rings, frozen and processed, dirty fries, poor quality with chili sauce on them, cauliflower bites, inedible. The amount of people that left the building because they could not get a drink in a timely manner was astonishing, you have to queue up with people queuing to order food. The menus were absolutely disgusting, covered in sauces, sticky, filthy, and not once did I see a table being sanatised in my two hours here. Clueless. Dogs are not allowed inside but OK in the outside seating. As for your response, what kind of hilarity is that... The majority of the staff that I witnessed do not know the meaning of hard work.

The only positive about today's visit was the burger was hot. Cleanliness of the venue leaves a fair bit to be desired, the tables had not been cleared from earlier customers, the seats were dirty, and the tables sticky, we were greeted with a list of things not available on the menu which was so extensive it was easier to ask what we could order. 20 minutes later two sad looking little burgers arrived with a scant portion of fries, one of which should have been dirty fries in a sauce, they were plain fries. Not a pleasant experience at all, have used this place several times previously and this is by far the worst eating out experience we have had in a very long time. Its going to take sometime before a return is on the cards.

My only reasoning for the 1 star is because the bar staff not only rude to my partner when he went up to give our order, but my partner had to ask for a glass for a bottled drink only to be handed what can be described as “quick rinsed glass” I’m truly disappointed as I’ve been coming here regularly and have always had a great or good experience but to say I really do feel like not coming back is an understatement. All the reviews online are obviously true and should be listened to! You are a poor establishment with staff that don’t live or work up to the high standards the restaurant perceives.

Gives a bad first impression tables available but debris from previous diners not cleared, this applied to about four possible tables and it looked as if they had been vacant for some time. Found a table without discarded crockery on it but which had obviously not been cleaned, ordered food at the bar giving table number (Curry was not available 🙁). When food arrived we rather thought that the table might get a quick wipe over but no. Food probably value for money but the chicken on the Chicken Skewers actually tasted of nothing and had a decidedly odd texture, the only real flavour came from the BBQ sauce! I wanted to like The Gatehouse but we will not be going there again, a place best avoided unless you are desperate.

Such a poor service, we arrived at 19.15 and were rushed to order our food as they wanted to close the kitchen even though when I rang previously they weren’t closing the kitchen till 20.30 - there were 8 of us who ate, each person had a starter and a main, the food wasn’t too bad, you get what you pay for, we asked for deserts at 20.20 and were told they weren’t serving anymore food. We sat there and finished our drinks off, around 20 minutes later a waiter walked past with 3 bowls of desserts. We questioned the waiter and he said “he’s the boss not me” so we proceeded to ask the manger of the night Jamie and well let’s just say he needs retraining in the customer service department. It was such an unwelcoming atmosphere, the rudeness was unbelievable, he proceeded to tell us how he hadn’t hit the target in profit for this evening however happily shut the kitchen early and turned away all 8 of us wanting to pay for desserts and another paying customer wanting a full meal previously. Honestly this place needs a complete turn around or the management need to change some things as it’s just not working - it’s just disgraceful - don’t get me wrong some of the staff there are lovely and try and help wherever possible, but unfortunately the bad out ways the good.

Overall the food is good value, I had the southern fried chicken mix it dish for £7.50 and tasted really good, my partner had a fish dish which was rather overcooked. That aside we would return.

Good selection of vegetarian food and it was fantastic value really decent food and love that half is adult and half is family so not had to be near screaming kids! Halloumi and chips very crisp, not greasy. Staff are friendy and place is clean.

Food is okay, you literally get what you pay for. Had a roast, the potato mash tastes like smash, from the packet. The gravy was definitely from the packet, tasted so chemically. The beef is gristly and grey, didn't eat the carrots and cauliflower because it just tasted of nothing when I tested it. My partner had a 12oz steak, we asked for well done, recieved medium rare and pink and bloody on the inside; it was a thick steak but you could see they only cooked it on the one side, like the chefs couldn't be bothered to turn it over. The Guinness tasted like flavored water. The bar staff are lovely. But that kitchen and menu really needs revamping. Such a large menu and for what? Honestly think it's best to have your smaller menu, have your dietary needs, but have better quality food.

Will not be returning. Menu items we wanted were unavailable on the app. Then we decided something else. Was waiting 15 minutes before someone approached and told us there is a 45 minute wait on food. Then 5 minutes later (20 minutes after ordering) someone approached and told her our drinks were unavailable. Sat near the kitchen and the stuff that came out the waitresses mouths was awful. Also heard a customer ask for a takeaway box and waitress didn't stop walking and shouted "hang oooon". Food came quicker than expected after 25-30 minutes. Chicken was white with zero colour or flavour. Ordered with BBQ sauce after a choice of Texas or Korean sauce and was passed a bottle of BBQ sauce. Chips were either soggy or undercooked. Corn on the cob was bland. Burgers were bland and messy. Also there was food and dirt splashed up the wall near the kitchen. There were loads of dead flies in the light. And the table was not cleared so we ate with other people's dirty glasses on the table. Marks all over the walls. Wonky lights. Not usually this picky but after terrible food with awful service, we started noticing everything else.

We had a lovely meal served by attentive and polite staff in relaxed surroundings. Josh asked if I'd be happy to leave a review and I'm fine with that. Thank you.Lovely way to spend an evening after travelling all day. Not been in a Hungry Horse before but based on this we will again, soon.

Absolutely awful. Tablefor11 booked but only 10 seats, were begrudgingly given an extra one. Table dirty on arrival. After order placed at bar, 2 meals were unavailable and had to change. One steak had to be returned, much too blue and the rest of the diners had finished before it was re served. Only half cups of tea served and soft drinks were under filled. The dirty plates were still on the table when the desserts were served. The service was a disgrace. The gents toilets were out of order so they were using the disabled facilities. I am a disabled user and used the loos. My god it was disgusting and dangerous. The floor was under water around the pan and sink. The slip hazard being very high. The cost of the 11 x 2 course meals and drinks was far too much for the conditions and service. We will never go to the Gatehouse again!

Been here 4 times now over the space of 3 weeks. Everytime me and my partner order anything it's either not available or we get what we order/an alternative, the issue is even when we do get any food it's never complete!! When we ask to have everything we are paying for on the plate we are greeted with arrogance or avoidance, and then ignored so whatever we do have food wise is stone cold by the time we may get our order correct which doesn't always happen! Waiting upwards of an hour with incomplete or wrong food orders left with us while we sit waiting. We wouldn't mind if while we pay for order we are told that things are unavailable regarding anything they do tell us is available. But they don't. I have worked as a chef in the past and always make sure customer is happy however they don't seem to do it here tbh. Very dissatisfied

There weren't enough staff on, the few that I saw were working hard. Unfortunately the gammon steak I ordered was solid grizzle, the sauce was wrong, and I got onion rings instead of fries. I decided not to complain as the staff are clearly trying their hardest.... the tables are also very sticky.... maybee chance cleaning product or teach staff how to use them.

This was the first time that we've been here for a couple of years. We went for lunch and had a really good experience it was clean in fact it felt pristine. The staff were really polite and very helpful the service was prompt and the food was lovely pub grub. We went on a Thursday and got two meals for £10.95. Fab! I think they do a different deal every day.

Wow. My expectations were quite low as when we walked in, the first girl we saw was not interested, too busy talking. However, the bar guy who served us was AMAZING!! Interacted with my 4yo son and was super efficient. The 2 ladies who served our table were super friendly (so sorry, i have no names but Tues 20th pm) helpful and smiley which makes such a difference. Food was insane, was way better than expected and we all enjoyed every bit! We celebrated my mums 60th staying just down the road;gutted we're not local but if we come back, we'll sure go back to the Gatehouse! So impressed. Thanks all 😊 (1 negative only, gents loos could do with an upgrade but thats it)

There only ever appears to be one member of staff on the bar taking orders, so this is always slow. Often better to order through the app, but still fairly slow - but you do get your drinks eventually.

All round a lovely clean pub. Friendly atmosphere but food was disappointing. My adult Christmas Dinner was the same size as my child's Christmas Dinner.. some parts of the meal where missing but soon got sorted out by the manager. Came for my sons first birthday helpful with bringing out the cake for him at the end

4 stars because of other people's experiences. I had the sizzler (half chicken and chips) not on a skillet though which was a shame. 2 kids meals, pizza and nuggets both fine. The issue was some uncooked chicken on a meal and the sausages looked like coal, rare steak cooked medium. Otherwise the rest of the party enjoyed theirs. Cheap and cheerful, check your chicken though 😋.

The food was not good 4 of us ate and only 1 person like the food. There is not a many options compared to greene king and it shows. The portion sizes were very small especially the chips. I order the savory rice but I think they gave me Mexican rice and it was cold and soggy. Tasted like uncle Ben's rice Staff were really nice though.

Had the Christmas Dinner cooked by the chef Richard was cooked perfectly had aswell the buy one get one free burger which was very nice. Josh who served us was very welcoming overall was a very nice experience definitely will be returning.

Decent food at a reasonable price. My husband loved the steak. Very tasty. Staff are nice too.

Went in for food a meal with my family tonight (Friday 6th) and was greeted by two lovely ladies on the bar. There was a small queue when I first arrived but was very quickly caught up with and down to nothing. We ordered our food which came within 30 minutes of ordering, people that brought our plates were very kind and helpful. food was all piping hot and portions were very generous. We have been in quite a few times and have noticed a change within attitude of staff, cleanliness and the overall atmosphere is much better than they were around 6 months ago. We spoke to a staff member who told us the hungry horse is under new management and I will proudly say we will be returning and recommending to absolutely everyone we know! Thank all of the team that were working tonight and we will be seeing you again soon.

Based on previous visits. Last time they were very short staffed had to wait for a good hour before food arrived. We were made aware about the situation. Despite this, the food was excellent and the staff offered a first class service.

Filthy glasses, Luke warm chicken swimming in grease, cold fries, cold corn on the cob, limp salad. Wouldn't recommend to anyone. Stay well away

I frequently eat out and my favourite venue is the Hungry Horse in Kings Lynn. The food is always ‘top notch’, customer service impeccable - staff are always warm, kind and friendly - willing to go the extra mile without a moments hesitation. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the staff for their commitment to caring and making each and every visit a delightful one. One member of staff stands out - Lewis. Such a hard working young man that delivers the ‘goods’ consistently and to a very high level. I marvel at his motivation to ensure each and every customer is valued and listened too, alongside a chirpy persona which is lovely to witness. Lewis is a credit to the hospitality industry and I sincerely hope he feels valued by us the customer. Keep up the great work Lewis.

We popped in for a quick bite to eat today and had a great combo sharer and halloumi fries, served with a smile!

This is my second visit to this establishment had a breakfast that took over 40 minutes to come to the table, the food was stone cold I tried a bit of everything and not usually one to complain I had to in this instance. Tonight was the second visit steak was not well done as I’d requested I sent it back and it came back still pink inside not at all well done, the peas were cold as were the chips. Definitely will not go in for third time lucky.

Good food with a decent service tine, easy ordering from the app. Only minor issue was they forgot the cutlery with my main dish but a quick ask and this was resolved. Josh was polite and helpful. Not usually in the King's Lynn area but if I return I'd be happy to eat here again. Music not too loud which some other pubs make the mistake of doing

Never been in before but called in on a Friday night. We both had steak on a bed of onions and peppers with chips and onion rings. The steak was piping hot and gorgeous. We really enjoyed the meal and found the prices very reasonable. We are going again in two weeks 😀

Great service at the bar. Offered a choice of lagers. Food arrived promptly and cooked to absolute perfection. I had the mixed grill. Steak was perfect. Then had millionaire cheesecake. Again, perfect. This was a one off stop as I'm staying at the travelodge next door. But definitely worth remembering this establishment. Top marks to the chef.

We popped in here around 3pm on a Friday for a quick bite to eat. The place was quiet and clean, staff helpful and friendly. For the price, there's not much complain about food wise. All day breakfasts 2 for £11, not a huge meal but enough at that time. They had been plated up very greasy which was a bit of a let down and it did look very sparing dishes up on that size plate.

What an excellent service. Such friendly staff!! My local pub, always greeted with a smile by either Matthew, Ellie and Heidi. I definitely recommend this pub! Lots of food options as well as vegan and vegetarian options!!

Quite a regular in this pub as I just can’t help returning since the food and staff are always perfect! Management has changed and I must say for the better. This place is so much cleaner, running smoother and overall a lot better than it used to be, everyone is a credit to the team. Thank you to everyone whom works at this establishment, you’re all very professional and your company should be proud!
