Title:
Sweet
Barbecue
with
Some
Hits
and
Misses
My
wife
and
I,
being
from
Texas,
were
curious
to
see
how
the
barbecue
at
Sonny's
BBQ
in
Kingsland,
Georgia
would
measure
up.
We
left
with
mixed
feelings.
The
barbecue
here
is
distinctly
sweet,
which
is
quite
different
from
the
tangy
and
savory
flavors
we're
used
to
in
Texas.
The
barbecue
sauce,
beans,
coleslaw,
and
dry
rub
all
leaned
heavily
towards
the
sweet
side.
While
it's
not
our
usual
preference,
we
could
appreciate
the
unique
twist.
One
highlight
was
the
chicken.
It
was
incredibly
juicy
and
flavorful,
even
extending
to
the
chicken
wings.
Unfortunately,
the
brisket
was
a
bit
too
fatty
for
our
liking,
which
was
a
letdown.
On
the
brighter
side,
the
ribs
and
pulled
pork
were
both
delightful
and
made
up
for
it.
One
peculiar
thing
we
noticed
was
the
absence
of
regular
sausage,
only
offering
jalapeno
cheddar
sausage.
When
we
inquired
about
it,
we
received
a
somewhat
puzzled
reaction.
Perhaps
it's
a
Texas
thing
to
expect
a
variety
of
sausage
options.
In
summary,
our
experience
at
Sonny's
BBQ
was
a
mix
of
sweet
flavors
and
hits
and
misses.
If
you
have
a
sweet
tooth
and
enjoy
unique
barbecue
experiences,
this
place
might
be
worth
a
visit.
However,
if
you're
a
die-hard
fan
of
traditional
Texas
barbecue,
you
might
find
some
elements
here
a
bit
too
different
for
your
taste.
Overall,
we'd
rate
our
experience
at
3.5
stars.
It's
not
our
top
barbecue
spot,
but
it's
worth
trying
for
the
adventurous
palate.
