The sculpture is placed directly in front of the entrance to the small museum. The museum itself offers a good insight into the history of Finnmark, including the suffering that the population there had to endure. Worth seeing!

Cool little gem. WWII history, Sami culture, town life/ history, iron ore mining, etc. Free WiFi and a really nice cafe and well stocked souvenir shop. Worth the trip if you only have time to do 1 thing in town.

For a small town like Kirkenes this museum truly worth a visit. There are two floors of exhibitions and almost item on display has translations into German, Russian, Finnish, English and even Chinese. The IL-2 is definitely the best thing in the museum. Overall I give 5/5

Very interesting museum if you want to know about Kirkenes and Murmansk roles during WW II. Many artifacts and pictures are presented to describe the reality at this period of time. Worth a visit.

Small but interesting museum about the history of the peoples around Kirkenes. Detailed explanations and descriptions also available in English, German and other languages.

A good museum, the first floor displays the epitome of the suffering of the local people during World War II. The second floor is an introduction and display of shaman life cultural relics.

It felt that the museum covers a bit of too many things and the displays are not so easy/appealing to follow. The waffles were good!😋

Quite an interesting place, but you just can't give it 5 stars

Good museum, with quite a mixture of themes for it's size. Mining, WWII, life on the borders, a bit of Sápmi and some art by Savio.

It's a lovely small museum with three areas of focus including the local impacts of world war II. There are multiple languages on many of the descriptions but having Google translate it was still very helpful for some of the smaller signs.

Small museum but nicely set out. Highlight is the restored WW2 bomber. Was a good walk to get there from town centre.

This is an excellent museum mainly focusing on the WWII period during which Kirkenes suffered greatly. There are also some poignant recent exhibits including of bicycles that Syrian refugees used to cross the border from Russia to Norway (the Russians don't allow foot crossing). Overall the museum underlines the harm done by orders, particularly for people like the northern Sami whose traditional lands encompass parts of Norway, Finland and Russia. It's particularly appreciated that the museum provides translation of most text into English (and German). This is often not the case in Norway even where the majority of clients must be from overseas.... In addition to the historical museum the building hosts the Savio museum. John Savio was a Sami artist and printmaker. I hadn't heard of him but was impressed with his work. There is also a small gift shop with some nice handicrafts. Overall this museum is highly recommended.

This is an extensive museum about the building of the town, the Sami people and the destruction due to WW2. I think it is worth the trip. There us a nice cafe for a coffee and sweet snack to enjoy.

It is a museum about Kirkenes during World War 2. There is a Soviet War plane inside the museum which was used for bombing. The entry fee is 100 NOK for adults and 80 NOK for students. It is situated on a mountain and has some nice views.

Nopea kierros juuri ennen sulkemisaikaa ja ystävällinen henkilökunta ei perinyt edes pääsymaksua. Suosittelen käymään mikäli eksyy näinkin kauas.

This historical museum features several exhibitions, the most interesting being Kirkenes and the surrounding areas during WWII when Norway was occupied by German forces, that from here attacked the Soviet Union. Kirkeness was bombed some 300 days during the war and almost completely destroyed. The predictions by its generals that the German army would be in Murmansk in 3 days was as wishful as Putin's effort in 2022 to capture Kiev and thereby all of Ukraine in less than a week... Go see this museum!

A laid-back, quiet museum, but with some remarkable and very well-curated exhibits chronicling the Second World War years is this part of the world near Kirkenes. Of particular note are the suffering and huge losses of both the Norwegian people, and the Soviet liberators (who lost 121,400 in this region alone). It also comprehensively covers the struggle of Norwegian teachers against Quisling's demand that be loyal to Nazi ideals and implement a fascist curriculum, and the partisan underground that was - at very great personal risk - instrumental in documenting Nazi ship movements for the Soviet air force and the convoy ships and naval defenders. Don't miss the section on Sami clothing (beautiful!) and life. There is also a gift shop, and a cafe serving coffee, hot chocolate, waffles, and muffins.

Some interesting stories about kirkenes during the war. Very accomodating after closing time while we waited for a taxi.

Brilliant - - excellent display particularly about the war in the north, something I knew nothing about. People certainly had a very hard time.

This museum highlights life in the Barents region. I liked the WW2 part a lot, as they mange to convey facts and data as well as personal experiences from all sides to describe the horrors of war. This takes history telling to a new level. High recommended!

A small, but informative local museum. When we went there was exhibit about the history of the town of Kirkenes, including mining, and the impact the closure of the mine had. There was also a very engaging exhibit on the region of The Borderlands during WWII and some examples of the handicrafts of the Sámi people.

Very informative exhibition about the wartime in Kirkenes and around Finnmark. The exhibition includes a very well restored IL-2 Stormovik, which is a rarity in Western Europe

Lots of interesting things but seemed a little jumbled and could do with a clear storyline (but obviously lots of interesting stories inside regardless)

Much interesting history around Kirkenes and during WW2.
