Honestly one of my favourite places to have stopped at in Japan. At the time I came there were a few people here, but it was mostly empty, was absolutely beautiful to just spend some time here relaxing. Low low entry fee which is worth paying.

This is the better of of the 2 ponds. Less people hike this way because for those that can’t walk far the buses will drop you off at the Taisho pond. It seems this pond is owned by a temple but it’s worth the price. It’s really beautiful here. We came after the last bus left and there were no tourists here except for the few that were staying here overnight. If you have to choose between the two ponds, pick this one.

The pond is located about 3.6km from Kappa bridge heading north east, there is no public transportation but it's a very mild hike, thus making it less crowded. The pond and nature around are spectacular, picturesque and well worth the hike. There is an entrance fee of 300yen to the pond and small shrine. Located next to the entrance there's a small restaurant and public toilets.

It looks incredibly beautiful and stunning, it was just strange that you have to pay an entrance fee to to there. It’s pretty small.

The best route to do in kamikochi is drop off on taisho pond and walk until this pond. And then come back to kappa Bridge where you take the bus back home. 9km total, 3h walking.
