A most wonderful piece of England hidden away in beautiful Eastern Germany. An impressive, quite royal looking stately home that would be right at home anywhere in the UK. Fabulous gift shop and a Cafe with cakes to die for! An amazing day out for all the family

Rich facade with a splendid entrance area and large gardens behind the castle buildings. This castle accounts for the largest baroque palace complex in the region of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The main building complex started being built in 1726 and was finalized in 1732 for Hans Caspar von Bothmer. For many decades the castle was in the service of the Prince of Hanover and also for sme time to the English King George I. Until 1945, this property stayed in hands of the Bothmer family, afterwards was nationalized and used as hospital and an old people's home.

Beautiful castle!! We had a guided tour tailored for a very young audience and had an amazing time!!! The kids loved it and so did the parents! The playground behind the castle is just as amazing and the shop offers plenty of refreshments, snacks and little gifts. We had a fantastic time!

Beautiful. As another reviewer has stated, building & story great, interior not so great. I'd add that the grounds are fabulous, the extended estate is massive & if you wanted a day cycling you're spoilt for choice. We don't have children, but were still very impressed by the wonderful play area to the rear of the building. The food & drink are great, staff are friendly & knowledgeable, and it probably has the best gift shop of anywhere I've ever been in the world, although you probably do need to like England just a little bit!

A seemingly unimpressive house compared to other Schloss's but wow what a story it tells. I would watch a documentary about Bother but this house really brought it to life. Would highly recommend if you are interested in Anglo-German relations otherwise it may not hold your interest

From the information in the holiday guides I was expecting something else. In my opinion the house and grounds were a bit underwhelming although it was nice to see this house restored and to its former glory being careful to maintain the feeling. If I had to comment on the English style then I feel I may not be qualified to do so however having visited many English sites previously I did not feel this was in the same style nor did it remind me of places in England

This grand house is still in need of a lot of renovations but they are off to a good start.

Nice a for a walk around the gardens, specially on a sunny day.
