Extremely recommended. Very funny and comfortable place despite middle of entertainment district. The bartender serves definitely fantastic cocktails and conversations. If you gonna visit by g@y bar purpose(some review said so), you should not visit. It’s ‘normal’ bar actually.

After a long day of shopping/eating in Nishiki Market, my boyfriend and I were looking for a bar. We found Frontier Bar on google and gave it a try. This has to be the most cozy, elegant bar. The bartender/owner is phenomenal! We took his recommendations as he makes your typical drinks with his own twist. We highly recommend this bar as it was the best one we found in Japan overall!

Amazing! The bartender is so friendly and truly takes passion in his craft. There are seats for about 10 here and the place is so intimate and cool. An absolute must! The grapefruit and passion fruit cocktail is the best cocktail I've ever had, and the homemade plum wine is excellent.

Very, very cozy little bar but what the FRONTIER BAR space lacks in size it makes up for with an incredible, joyous, talented and meticulously good bartender. He was WONDERFUL and so were his drinks/cocktails. My partner had the plum wine. I had the original handmade cocktail made by the bartender which included vodka, soda, a great French liquor, fresh squeezed orange juice and a few other secret ingredients. On top of this, the bartender chips away at the perfect ice cube for each and every cocktail he makes. If only American bartenders we’re half as knowledgeable or as talented!

This is such a good place. Cosy and relaxed atmosphere, and the drinks are absolutely amazing. Prices are what you would expect from a cocktail bar (1000-2000 yen on average). The bartender can speak english too.

On 3rd floor of the building. Many options for both cocktails and whiskey. Their signature cocktails are delicious and their selections for Japanese whiskey are extensive with wonderful descriptions for the whiskey differences in English (if need be). The service is great, and the vibes are immaculate. Definitely a favorite bar from this trip to Japan.

Fantastic bar with an intimate setting. The drinks were top-notch and the bar was separated into two rooms a smoking and a non-smoking side. Will definitely come back.

The owner and other regular patron in there were very welcoming and friendly when I went in alone. He has an excellent line up of high quality whiskey, rum and gin. It’s a nice cozy place with separate smoking and non smoking counter saloons. Thank you for warming me up with the hot toddy first, I would happily return.

Such a cool cozy bar hidden on the third floor of a building. Only 7 seats at the counter for the non smoking section. There is a separate door/section for smokers. Very friendly owner, who is clearly an expert at his craft. I absolutely loved the cocktails we had here- the frontier (twice), multiple old fashioneds, and the “if you meet me”. They were all excellent and carefully made with precision and much attention to detail. This is a must stop by if in the area!

I spent two evenings here during a recent vacation, relaxing with a book and enjoying some excellent drinks! The owner does a wonderful job with everything he serves - I really enjoyed the whiskies and gin I had the chance to try, but the homemade umeshu is a rare treat (especially the brandy umeshu). This bar is well worth a visit if you want a quiet place to relax away from the busy streets of Kyoto. P.S. I'm afraid I left my umbrella there my last night - one too many drinks! Perhaps I'll collect it again when I'm back next year? ;-)

Small cozy romantic setting located on the 3rd floor in this little food alley/strip. Cocktails were amazing and made in such a professional manner, you can tell the guy making them was truly passionate about his craft and the service was top knotch of course. Highly recommended!

Love everything about this 14 year old Bar! The atmosphere were very nice, they even separate the smoking and non smoking patrons. Even though at that time there was only one Bartender, but they can juggle between Rooms and Customers very well and politely. We had a Sweet Cocktail & a Straight Ichiro’s Malt Whiskey. They have various selections of Japanese Local Whiskey you cannot find easily in Japan. This is one of my Favourite Bar in Kyoto so far. Come visit when you’re in the neighbourhood.

One of the most beautiful and intimate bars I’ve been to. The bar owner is very knowledgeable about his craft and gave spot-on recommendations based on what we were looking for. We tried local Kyoto gin made with yuzu that tasted amazing in a gin and tonic, and a Japanese whiskey blend that was sweetened in a sherry casket. The other cocktails we had were also some of the best we had ever tasted. Really cool spot for amazing drinks and ambience.

Amazing small bar! It has two rooms, smoking friendly and non-smoking. They have two different vibes but share the same bar tender. The bartender we had was kind and insightful on our Japanese whiskey questions. Everyone who walked in said we were in the best bar in town. I would say this was one of my favorite bars in Kyoto.

Ten second walk off the main high street and on the third floor. Separate rooms for smoking / non-smoking; absolutely good for non-smokers. Small cover charge of 500 yen. Overall very good experience and foreigners welcome. Quiet and out of the way - very good cocktails and you can ask for something unique (I wanted something with midori). Whiskey, gin, and cocktails mainly.

We did some bar hopping and randomly decided to visit this bar. The bar tender is so friendly and we asked for his recommendations. His drinks are so well balanced and refreshing. Definitely will recommend friends who loves good alcohol.

I couldn’t recommend this place enough. Very laid back and relaxed. Excellent bar, excellent drinks. Smoking or non-smoking areas. He is a very friendly and very accommodating host that owns and runs the whole place. The signature cocktails are very worth a try!!

Met a a John and a Jung and reqlized how much better austrilian government practices are Oh and the drinks were good too

Beautiful bar, very picturesque! Really nice bartender who also started up and owns the bar. The cocktails themselves were reasonably tasty but nothing special about them so giving a 4/5.

The bar was lovely, and the drinks were amazing. Unfortunately, the other patrons in the bar were loud and obnoxious. The bartender is really personable, and while the experience was very nice, it wasn’t absolutely ideal. I’d certainly give them another chance should I return to central Kyoto.
